3. American guarantees (read it all!)
Tal ,   Israel   (01.23.06)
"The Americans promised Abbas in the meeting to pressure Israel to enable Barghouti's interview, which was considered a media event of high electoral value to the Fatah party, and encouraged the leader to increase his own public appearances as well. " I hope beyond the above bullshit when and if the US locates OBL he some day along with Sadam can give interviews over the airwaves. OOOPs, forgot, when it comes to Israel there is another set of standards. HA HA. On another note, I see Carter spoke at the Herzliya Conference "There is no doubt," he added, "that much of the anti-American sentiment in the Middle East is caused by failure to find a solution to the Palestinian problem." Let me remind all of you that Carter is not the only weasel among us. Bush has said countless times "There will be no peace in the ME until the Palestinians reach statehood." Bush also slammed settlements and called for contiguous Palestinian state more times then I care to remember!! Bush also calls Abbas a 'man of peace' when Abbas does nothing to further peace while saying with no compunction he will do nothing to stop Hamas. Meaning he will do nothing to stop terror. Period. Looks like Carter the weasel and Bush the one time friend of Israel are just about mirror images of each other. BTW: While some can say the Barghouti interview is part of the democratic way of life which it is, in reality had more to do with bankrupt pressure and double standards from the US then anything else. How shameful. Waiting for the OBL and Saddam interviews.......... Mattter of fact the US needs to open every prision in the US, Iraq and Cuba and allow each prisoner to be interviewd on TV/radio stations of choice! DO IT DAMN IT. Prove me wrong!!
4. European diplomats also concerned over Hamas rise in power
Mo ,   Bersheva   (01.23.06)
WAIT A MINUTE...... Europe and the US knew full well this was going to happen yet long ago they set no limits or consequences or did one thing to prevent it. Abbas himself stated clearly he would not stop Hamas which means he was willing to do nothing to prevent terror or the rise of Hamas to power. The European idiots along with the US heard it and knew it. Gotcha!! Now when we see it is REALITY like big tough Men and Women they protest. Their words are as transparent as the clearest glass. Their words have more holes then swiss chesse. gotcha!!
5. KISS of DEATH
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (01.23.06)
I wonder how much publicity this US "help" is getting in the Palestinian areas? Are voters aware of it? Does YA print an Arabic edition? Let us not forget that somebody (US?) pumped $24 million into TV campaign ads in Iraq for the Allawi secularists favored by the US. Considering the differences in prices, one has to think that would be equivalent to spending $100-200 million on TV in the United States. And look what it got: failure. The Alawi group lost mightily. Telling people the US is pushing any candidate is giving that candidate the Kiss of Death. Is Palestine different from Iraq?
6. SILENCING THE OPPOSITION
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (01.23.06)
I note also that the PA has closed down the Hamas TV Channel, citing "legal and regulatory" problems, but obviously to prevent people from seeing their campaign messages. The US objects strongly when countries such as Russia pull tricks like this, but will probably ignore this. But the Palestinians will be aware of it, and they will realize that all the "democratic" posturing by the US is pury hypocrisy. Even if there is a short-term win for US interests, in the long run there was be a reaction.
