1. what a bunch of bulshit
(02.04.06)
What are you talking about? Have you ever checked the arab newspapers, how they slander the Jewish religion?? But that's ok ofcourse. Im sick and tired of the arab intollerance, they don't have any selfspot, and instead of some peaceful demonstration they start to threaten European citizens (i myself work a lot with Palestinians in Ramallah and Gaza, I'm European) The European countries have nothing to appologize for, but ofcourse they gave in to a bunch of terrorists....maybe Europe should wake up and not send any money anymore to the Palestinian authorities, anyway it will go to the wrong people, look what Arafat did with the money, what a joke.
2. Muslim power (Responce to Ray)
Gene ,   Israel   (02.04.06)
Ray, I don't really see anything in this subject to be proud of. To see thousands of mad and evil looking people shouting "Death to Denemark", "Death to France", "Death to America and to Israel (of course) and so on, at least to me seems just insane. You know what - as matter of fact these actions just showing that the cartoons are in fact correct, and whoever made them - hit the point perfectly. These protestors are actually ready to murder people of the countries who published the cartoons. And they are clear about that - you probably seen the threats from Hamas and the others. Do you find this reaction normal? I thought that Islam was religion of peace and tolerance... So where is that tolerance? Where are some peacefull protests, without "Death to.. If jews were rioting each time the arab media issue some new cartoons about us and Israel, there would be no moment of rest here. Just think about that......
3. Down with freedom ?
hiram ,   tel aviv   (02.04.06)
Ray, Unfortunately , all the terrorists involved in planting explosive devices aiming at killing and maiming civilians are Moslems not Jewish, nor Christians..... Unfortunately also , all the governments executing people publically for " crimes against Islam" ( hanging, stoning, amputation, beheading) are under the control of Islamic law. Unfortunately , the situation of women in Islamic countries brings them back to the darkest years of obscurantism. Unfortunately also, it has been demonstrated that deprivation of civil liberties in Islamic and (Islamists) countries has brought economic ruin , poverty , analphabetism and so on.... What is so surprising in having people presenting on a piece of paper " their " view of Islam which apparently is shared by many countries of the "western and free " world ? Why should killing in the name of a religion be accepted without any reaction ? Islamic agitation today will calm down tomorrow , like it always did.... Suspicion about Islam will definately stay as day after day gangster countries like Iran, Syria and other are demonstrating the inability to face the 21st century on the basis of secularism and individual respect of existing religious communities... Islam is today the ONLY religion advocating its supremacy. This is called JIhad .....and you , if anyone , should understand clearly the meaning of this word. Are you positively sure that Arab newspapers are exempt from cartoons aimed at Christians and Jews ?
4. Dear Ray:
Todd ,   London   (02.04.06)
There's a hole in the world, like a great black pit. And it's filled with people who are filled with sh#@, and the vermin of the world inhabit it.But not for long. The all deserve to die. Tell you why Ray, because in the human race thre are two kinds of men. There's the one staying put in his proper place and the one with his foot in the other one's face. (with appologies to Stephen Sondheim). Muslims should stay put.Oil and Islam do not rule the world.
5. Ray what about!
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (02.04.06)
the nasty little cartoons that are daily posted in arab/moslem paprers worldwide depicting Jews as Nazi's as baby eaters monsters leaches etc. what about this Ray or is it to be accepted blindly because4 up until now no one has blown themselves up about it?
6. all I got from this was...
Michael ,   Austin, TX, USA   (02.04.06)
that moslems are barbarians. They don't deserve a country.
7. Selective Outrage
Rafi   (02.04.06)
The cartoons were not nice for a sensitive people. However where is your outrage against suicide bombers. The cartoons were directed against people who use suicide bombers against civilians and justify this in the name of Islam. Do you have outrage and do want the masses of Arabs to protest against the suicide bombers and their handlers. Maybe this would be energy better spent than against cartoons which are offensive to you!!
8. No, Ray
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (02.04.06)
Usually I agree with you wholeheartedly but here you're wrong. This is not Islamophobia--if it was, it would be utterly reprehensible: NOTHING can excuse Islamophobia just like nothing can excuse racism. Just like there IS a difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism (of course, in almost all cases anti-Zionism is fuelled by anti-Semitism)-- both of which, as a Jew and Zionist, I denouce--there's a difference between hating people and wanting to harm them pursuant to irrational propaganda, and subjecting people's beliefs to scrutiny which may lead to mockery of those beliefs. Every philosophy, especially those that manifest themselves in any way in public life, has to be open to criticism and analysis, including ridicule. What seems to me you want, and that's only confirmed by your anecdote from Chicago, are media that portray things they way you think things stand. That, Ray, is not democracy. That's totalitarianism.
9. I am honestly disappointed
Orly   (02.04.06)
I was sure you are going to say that Arabs need to come together to deal with their deep maladies: despotism, chauvinism, ignorance, paranoias... but it turns out that you are a part of the Arab paranoia yourself! The Arabs and Muslims are "the target of a constant and unyielding campaign of hatred in the Western Media"??? Get real! Whatever you may find in Western Media is a response to the widespread Islamic terrorism. But you probably blame the West for that too!!
10. nothing to appologize 4
Mohammad ,   Gaza, Palestine   (02.04.06)
EU should NOT applogize for the muslims. NOR the muslims should trade with them. We can not call Jesus or Moses names. We have the right to stop dealing with you
11. muslims/arabs=hypcorites!!!!! because...........
(02.04.06)
you won't see them harnessing their power to stop theie anti-semitic media!!! Ray, you are full of it!!
12. Hey, Euros, you killed off the Jews
Roger ,   USA   (02.04.06)
and got the Arabs instead. G-d help you now!. Unlike the tolerant, peaceful, ethical, moral Jews the Arabs will not be mistreated.
13. Dear Euros, Welcome to our world!
Melanie ,   USA   (02.04.06)
14. It was funny to see the Euros run from Gaza
Ann ,   USA   (02.04.06)
That is what your support for the Arabs claiming a Palestinian identity worth. You, Euros, treacherously supported the terrorist entity (PA, Fatah, etc) against Israel and now you get paid with an interest. Congratulations!
15. Ray Hanania is an Arab apologist
Mel ,   USA   (02.04.06)
Except everything in the Arab world is messed up: politics, government, institutions, etc. The poor advocate of the Arabs causes comes to a Zionist publication to cry or spew his Arab venom which is supposedly Palestinian. Don't take him seriously! He is an armchair jihadist from Chicago who is full of Palestinian "pride".
16. No Ray
Desperate Israeli   (02.04.06)
This is not about honour, this is about covering up the seriously maafan life in Arab and Muslim countries, who despite sitting on the largest oil stockpiles in the world still live like its the middle ages, obviously the normal people would of uprisen against their regimes but to stop this from happening they turn all the anger and frustration of the falahs in their country towards the west, Israel etc. and let me finish up with this : "Madbuli's book shop, one of the oldest and well reputated shops in Cairo, was unprepared for the literature blitz which took it by suprise, "All the copies of the 'Protocols of the elders of Zion' dissappeared from the shelves", said Madbuli, the owner of the shop, who is also an owner of a book distirbution company which carries his name. Egyptian friends tell that in book stalls set up at corners of the streets the "Protocols" were also scacre." Real story.
17. arabs/muslims some honest soul seacrhing is well overdue
mike ,   london   (02.04.06)
The artilce above is a perfect illustration of a culture that needs to feel victimized in order to justify itself. Frankly I think the west (especially Europe) tries very hard to accomodate the views of muslims in general even though we dont always get it right, however it's high time tha the arabs thenselves try to look within and try to educate its people and intefrate in modern day society. BTW I don't condone the deliberate offence of any religioun in any way and find the carotoons incensitive, but the reaction in the muslim world is simply ridiculous.
18. RAY
steven ,   france   (02.04.06)
Excuse my ignorance,But what did you get your "Award winning Prize for?"I cannot believe what I read here,YOU HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?The only difference I see here is broadening the gap Between civilization and mankind ,what he used to be like 3 million years ago.I really beg to differ, making a difference ,is when one protests, with reason, and, with intelligence, and manages to make a change, not with violence, and hatred,Do you have any idea of what you are suggesting here? You say the Americans continue to slander and defame you.WELL what do you call what your people are doing to the Jewish people??SAYING HELLO?HOW ARE YOU???LIKE TO COME FOR TEA??Don't be such a fool, and try to convince the world that you arabs are the scapegoats here.I find your articale totally insulting, and Biased. But how can I be so blind ,you are after all "A PRIZED JOURNALIST";May G-D forgive my ignorance.
19. #10
Jane   (02.04.06)
Do you plan to petition your Imams to stop calling Jews pigs and monkeys? Do you plan to stop incitement to kill against the Jewish people? Do you plan to boycott anti-Semitic miniseries broadcast during Ramadan? Do you plan to protest against anti-Semitic cartoons published in newspapers throughout the Arab/Islamic world? Until you do these things, Mohammed, you have NO CREDIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20. to # 12 Roger
(02.04.06)
The Europeans didn't kill the Jews, the Nazis did, Germany....please don't insult me as a European citizen living in Israel......
21. Dear Ray
Michele ,   Haifa Israel   (02.04.06)
It seems that everyday somewhere in the world Muslims are enraged for one thing or the other, and right away threaten to kill..As a Jew I can very well understand why they feel insulted by the cartoons .So don't buy the newspaper that publish them. And by the way where were all these angry mobs when the Talibans blew up the statues of Buddha? So ,Please stop blaming everybody for everything!
22. We draw Polar Bears with teeth in Alaska!
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (02.04.06)
Usually the offended Polar Bears tear up newspaper dispensers, because of their anger, in retaliation. The other Polar Bears sell the mainstream newspapers, showing ferocious polar bear fangs in their funny sections. These Polar bears could really put a crimp into the newspapers business, if they would quit selling them. They would have Polar Bear Power! They could then go out, and rip every human being they spotted to shreads. And no newspaper would report it, or put a political cartoon in their paper about it. That's called freedom of the press----Polar-Bear-Style! Given enough killing time---all the humans would be wiped out. Even the newspaper publisher. And no one would know of the religious, rascist, intolerance, that the Polar Bears exibited, in the first place. Let's not warn anyone of the Muslims real intentions Mr. Hanania. It's to nasty to put ferocious teeth in the Polar Bears Mouth. People might run when they see you. They wouldn't know if they were going to be ripped apart by sharp fangs, or a suicide bombers exploding body.
23. It was not an emotional reaction
Aharon ,   Israel   (02.04.06)
It was not an emotional reaction. The reaction was well-planned. Many radical forces in the Moslem world are dreaming of such opportunities to enflame the their people. The Danish cartoons were a wonderful reason to start riots against the "infidels." For many Moslem people, the case is an excuse for giving an outlet to their feelings of frustration from the dictatorial regimes in their lands. It's a great pity to see how the Arab nation, that has once been a spearhead in many fields, turning a blind eye to its real problems and wasting so much energies on some ugly cartoons (which i strongly condemn).
24. Points about column
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (02.04.06)
People always read what theyw ant in other people's opinions, especially in our conflict. But ... here are some additional thoughts: The column basically says it is sad that the Arabs and Muslims came together to argue this point. It is the result of emotion and the cartoons are inconsequential. Many innocent people and businesses are being hurt because of the misdirected rage of Arabs and Muslims. And that is wrong. There are other more important issues that can be addressed to improve Arab and Muslims. But they need reason not emotion. As for those who are surprised by the Arab and Muslim reactions to the cartoons. Here are examples from others: In the 1960s, John Lennons aid he was more popular than Jesus Christ and people boycotted his albums, band and burned his music. They even threatened to kill him. He eventually apologized. When al-Jazeera broadcast images of dead American soldiers (the way CNN broadcast images of dead Iraqi soldiers) the station was denounced, boycotted and people tried to ban its broadcasts here int he US. Reporters for al-Jazeera were blacklisted and banned from US Military press conferences and expelled from Iraq. And, al-Jazeera offices were bombed several times -- unintentionally, I am sure. :) When the Palestinian National Authority TV broadcast images and comments offensive to Jews, the US Congress threatened action including cutting off aid to Palestinians. Let's not throw stones from glass houses folks :) Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
25. Do you tell a joke before you blow us both up too end
(02.04.06)
26. Ray decides to kiss muslim but
Cal ,   Brooklyn,NY   (02.04.06)
Ray recently wrote an opinion page in which he was called a seft-hater,etc,etc,etc. So now he decides to appease them. RAY, YOU ARE A P*(kitten)!
27. #24 Ray
Howard ,   Pacific Coast, USA   (02.04.06)
Actually the Palestinian Authority broadcasts material offensive to Jews all the time. Nobody does anything about it, not the US, not the EU, not Israel and not the PA.
28. Chicago and Newspapers
Benjamin Kurland ,   Chicago, U.S.A.   (02.05.06)
I have lived in Chicago since I was 3 years old (1985) and there is in no way a correlation between the ability of Newspapers papers to circulate there publishings and the amount of Arab and Muslim grocery store owners. The idea is so ludicrous that at a loss of words as to how to respond. That an intelligent man would make the claim seems beyond comprehension.
29. Ray--this time you're off the mark
bob ,   potomac MD usa   (02.05.06)
Sorry, Ray, this time I think you're way off the mark. The Muslim world, and in particular, the Arab world, publishes anti-Semitic cartoons on a regular basis--depicting Israel and Jews with the same style and using the same imagery as in the Nazi error in Germany, such as in Der Struermer. This is offensive--but the only difference is that Jews don't go psycho about it and don't burn embassies and don't riot. We don't place fatwas on Arab editors. Sometimes I think that Christian Arabs come to the defense of Muslim miscreants in a way that makes them seem "more Catholic than the pope."
30. Isnt it really a question of.....
(02.05.06)
.....why air or print something that is highly offensive to so many people? what for? theyre not ripping off muslims - theyre ripping off the religion itself. what on earth for? is this really newsworthy? does it have anything to do with news - as in what is really going on?
