61. Dear Randy (59) ... Palestine?
Guy ,   JR, IL   (02.20.06)
The jews stole the land from the Palestinians at 48? Did I miss any part in history? Was there a state, or perhaps a country called "Palestine" at the time? Weren't the people of the Gaza strip of egyptian nationality before 67? Weren't the people of the west bank Jordanian? And what's with the stealing? I thought the UN declered that an Israeli country in the land of Israel is to be formed. Do you remember who started the war and didn't approve the resolution in 48? The arab states. The same arab states that were glad (and are still glad) to be rid of the people in the gaza strip and west bank and leave it as an Israeli problem.

Moshe Torass ,   New York   (02.24.06)
Dear Mr. Irit Linor, I do feel in your anlysis of the enginius moovie of Abu-Assad Pradise now, quite a pityfull attempt of propaganda. Yes, pro-israeli propaganda. Indeed, I do not think at all that as a Jew you have to lower every palestinian artistic creation, specially when it is a complete success. Nor do i think that Abu-hassad tried to portay nice terrerorists, but regular people like you and me , who were forced by the israeli terrorist occupatioon ( AND INDEED ISRAEL IS EXERCING AN ILLEGAL OCCUPATION OF THE PALETINIAN TERRITORY, QUITE AS ILLEGAL AS TERORISM). Moreover , I think that you materialise the perfect obstacle to an eventual peace , because it is quite flagrent that present politics ( and maybe it will change with the arrival of a new palestinian gov) are not able to solve this perenial conflict, and art is a good way of forgetting are diferences and reuniting to eventually have peace. Buut how do you want use to reunite if you are jalous of the sucess this palestinian young genius has. So pleaze try not to be so arrogant concerning the inocent palestinians and stop saying that the suicide operations are terrorist operation because if they are i wonder what can we say about the shamefull army operations that the israeli army ( and i do feel indeed very jewish and even a very good israeli) conduct.
64. Mossad
PalestinianJew ,   safad , Palestine   (02.25.06)
oh , so nobody knew that most of these suicide bombers(victims) get their orders from someone who gets his order from someone in the mossad?? oooo..no , those are just unbelievable conciparacy theories...keep telling yourself that and let zion stay ignorant from the truth their whole lives....its easier that way , i understand. ;)
65. #55 How can this be a foreign film ..
Linda ,   Haifa   (02.27.06)
So, in your view, since Palestine is not a country and therefore does not exist, this cannot be a "foreign film"? It seem to me that you ought to go on to conclude that this film also does not exist. You should let your friend know before he goes out and tries see it ... Just out of curiosity, if this film were to exist, would you classify it has a "domestic film," as opposed to foreign? Because that is the only other possibility. Finally, has anyone pointed out to you that Taiwan, Hong Kong, Wales, and Puerto Rico are also not nation-states, but all have submitted films to the Acadamy for consideration? Did you protest them as well?
66. #56 and all those who think alike...
jess ,   france   (03.02.06)
hi, in the past i used to support the palestinians, call them poor opressed people, etc... after a visit on both sides i have to say that i completely feel sorry for the jews living in israel. the thing is that they don't really live normaly. always livivg in the fear of maybe living the last second... on the other end i've seen the horror the other side, the palestinians live in an unbelievable povrety. i think the leaders should start and think about their people and work it out. love to all...

There is NEVER an excuse to kill innocents. And, Sara, you absolutely have it wrong. Linor's article clearly explains why it's antisemitic. Showing the ONLY Jewish person as a stereotype (leering over blonde girls, overweight, dishonest, avaricious, etc., is antisemitic. Had he also shown honest jews doing the Right Thing (yet still being pro-Israel politically), that would NOT be anti-semitic. Depicting the bombers as handsome and masculine and sexy and smart rather then average (in looks AND intelligence) is biased. As a matter of fact, there is no character in the film that despises the suicide bombings as wrong because it kills innocent people. The cute girl didn't like bombing because she was afraid it looks bad-- not because she didn't like the results (the deaths of Jews). 300 schools in the Palestinian territories are named after bombers. Park centers are named after these murderers. Their culture is one that OKAYS murder-- that teaches Jews are expendable. And now, the director (in his interview) states they should split the area 50-50? And then there will be peace? Are Jews welcome in other muslim lands (to be free?) why not check asktheiman.com-- because they are not welcome to build new synagogues, practice their religion publicly, etc. The director might actually believe the propaganda that he's been fed, as do too many others-- including you. There is too much history you need to learn that I just cannot begin to teach you in this forum. Too bad, because the info's out there, you just haven't read it and probably have no real desire for real knowledge.
68. Response to Jess
Kendra ,   USA   (03.03.06)
Actually, you are right about this. Remember Arafat was one of the richest men in the world, his family living in luxury in France rather then the territories! All that money that was supposed to go to infrastructure, support, job creation. Instead, it went into the pockets of the terrorist Arafat! And, still, he was held in such high esteem from all of the "Palestinians" (and I use that term reluctantly). Rather than pay the suicide bombers' families thousands of dollars, why not spend to improve their "country" (another term used very loosely)? And, why not teach them about taking responsibility for their lives? How to improve their lives? They are truly pathetic-- blaming Israel and the west for all that is wrong with their lives. And, their behavior and culture ENCOURAGES this!
69. Randy, learn some facts
Kendra ,   USA   (03.03.06)
Randy, Israel was given that land fairly. And, Judaism is older than Islam, so it's a fact that Jews were there long before their were nutcase Islamists (and even moderate Muslims ;) ) However, Israel's boundaries expanded when they took that land in a DEFENSIVE war. They were attacked and they defeated the Arab armies. Furthermore, no other country is ever pressed to give back land taken in a DEFENSIVE war, except Israel. Lastly, there was never a "Palestinian" people until, what, 1967? They were Arabs. They were not "Palestinians"!!!! Arafat was Egyptian, for goodness' sakes! Uhh, why isn't Syria and Jordan returning some of their land to the poor oppressed Palestinians? Because they like the idea of those people living the way they do. . . evoking sympathy in people like you! Israel has a teeny tiny piece of land and the Muslims have the rest of it. Yet everyone wants Israel to give up more and more and more-- until there's no more left to give. There is no "palestinian" people. They are Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian, etc.

fatma ,   jerusalem   (03.03.06)
the last fact that the film has the oscar ''befor it suicide bombers is a fact and ocupation is a fact israil is a fact the palastinians is a fact suffering of the israili and palastinians is a fact ///i do not see the film but i think it deal with facts however it is fare or not but still facts and youkandra say the only thing you think it is a fact obout the wright of the jews to have the land to kill people in the name of god promiss so it does not different from that of suicide bombers if is the aim of the killing to enter the paradise which is not a fact
71. Why not producing such a movie on holy Osama in USA???

So why don't you rant about the IDFs killing of innocent children (like the kid shot today in Nablus--it's on the front page of this news site). I'm sure you'll come up with some excuse, in contradiction to your position that there are no excuses. You'll probably tell me the IDF doesn't target civilians, but Hamas does (sounds awfully like an excuse to me). You might also rant about the culture of death in Israeli society that honors mass-murderers like Baruch Goldstein. But this is beside the point: I never wrote that killing of innocents (including those in suicide attacks) is justified. As for Linor's claim of anti-semitism, we've already gone over this. The Israeli collaborator who drives the two would-be bombers is not particularly ugly or overweight in my view. I'm guessing you are projecting stereotypes like dishonesty and avarice onto him because of WHO his character is--a "traitor." It would be one thing if the filmmakers pulled the idea of Israelis collaborating with suicide bombers from thin air, but the fact is, Israelis HAVE helped bombers. Plus, there is a nice symmetry (and great irony) between this Israeli collaborator and the father of one of the would-be bombers who was a Palestinian collaborator. If you really want to have a beauty contest between this film's characters, how would you stack the Israeli collaborator against the Palestinian (Hamas?) handler who informs the bombers of their mission? Both are overweight and bearded ... Finally, Kendra, I live in Jerusalem. I don't need to visit propaganda websites for my "fact" sheets. I just have to step outside.
73. There are no "Palestinians"

just arabs who are criminals and murderers
75. To ALL antisemities :Is oppression having internet access?
JAY ,   US   (03.03.06)
Look at all the "oppressed Palestinians" posting on this talkback. They are so "oppressed " they have PCs ,access to net, and freedom to post slanderous statements about Jews and Israel. Why don't you move to an Arab country and try doing the same.
76. Arabs & Muslims at Golden Globes pull propaganda victory
Edwin ,   US   (03.03.06)
Check out this site: http://www1.hfpa.org/contact/ It lists the Board of Directors and President, etc. of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn, the group that runs the Golden Globes. The Vice President is Mahfouz Doss. The executive Secretary is Meher Tatna, and it seems the extensive list of names that make up this organization is throughly Judenrein.

You have a problem with not only poor grammar and spelling, but also with a twisted head; else, why pretend to be a Jewish writer in this space, slander the Torah, and hide? Perhaps you and your ilk are truly jealous of the Jewish peoples, chosen as they were by our Heavenly Creator, to be at His right 'hand', and in fact, to be His true and eternal expression of love...
79. 35: palestinians are a myth
StandingTrue ,   Jxn MS   (03.03.06)
You betcha! They are and were arabs, nomads who, for a few reasons, did not live with their families, but moved away, largely, it may be stated, because they could do nothing really useful for themselves, so they came to try a takeover of the Jewish prosperity and multiple social/cultural contributions quite wonderfully strated by the Jews. Rather convincingly proves the Jews' preferential treatment as justified. So sad the arabs don't yet, after 3500 years, see this. I will pray to the only G-d for the arabs' enlightenment; and may He Bless the Jews, now and into eternity!
80. Stop denying the truth!
Adam Steinberg ,   USA   (03.04.06)
How could one say that the Palestinians never existed or that there was never a nation called palestine. How could you replace history with such false facts. Please, whatever scheme you try to pull in order to benefit your israeli perspective, always keep an ethical view that the Palestinians do exist. Such excuses belittle the ethics of man, to go as far of an extent as to reject the historic nationality of people is completely immoral.
81. film's message/Kendra
Max ,   New York   (03.04.06)
Kendra wrote: 'The cute girl didn't like bombing because she was afraid it looks bad-- not because she didn't like the results (the deaths of Jews).' Actually, the Palestinian woman in the film doesn't like suicide bombings because, to quote her subtitles directly, "If you kill, than there’s no difference between victim and occupier." In other words, she objects to suicide attacks because they are (like the occupation) morally wrong--not because (as you put it) it "looks bad." "There’s no sacrifice in revenge," she tells the potential bomber. It is clear to me that the woman represents the conscience of the fim and the filmmaker's stance. You may disagree, but don't twist her words to support your argument that the film is inherently anti-Semetic.
82. To # 80 Nothing Immoral About Stating Facts Regarding Arabs
Maura Weinstein ,   Rhode Island, USA   (03.05.06)
Like it or not Adam, there has never been a national Palestinian homeland. The first time the name was used was in 70 A.D. when the Romans committed genocide against the Jews, smashed the Temple and declared the land of Israel would be no more. From then on, the Romans promised it would be known as Palestine. The name was derived from the Philistines, a Goliathian people conquered by the Jews centuries earlier. Palestine has never existed—before or since—as an autonomous entity. It was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the Ottoman Empire and, briefly by the British after World War I. The British agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their homeland. There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc. Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of 1 percent of the landmass. But that’s too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today: Greed. Pride. Envy. No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough! Now if you can disprove any of the above facts, I welcome you to do so.
83. The Only Thing Immoral Adam #80...
Maura Weinstein ,   Rhode Island, USA   (03.05.06)
is the invention of a so-called palestinian nation in the year 1967 following the six day war, simply for the sake of tormenting Israel with endless myths about all the alleged injustices we brought upon them after THEY attacked us, one war after the next. The Arabs have never been able to come to terms with a jewish presence in their midst. And what better way is there to battle the evil zionists then by using endless propaganda about a so-called mistreated nation with legitimate claims to the land. Only problem is, just one nation truly holds a legitimate real estate deed to the land of Israel, and it sure ain't a make believe nation called the "palestinians".
84. Come on!! how many Israeli Jews do you know
Noa Rodriguez ,   Israel   (03.05.06)
With the name Abu Shabab???????? and i repeat my question... how many ISRAELI JEWS (the word jews very bold) named ABU SHABAB????? PLEASE do not insult my intelligence, nor the public's... if Abu Shabab is israeli., then it has to be an arab israeli (unless you do know some abu nafha israeli jew) . And yes I DID see the movie, and i am jewish israeli (before you'll end up saying some racist phrase against any other ethnicity). Don't try to sell the famous "antisemitic" blame. Cause me personally don't by your bullsh--. Face it, they manage to get there without even being a state, and here we are still trying to do some KIND OF cinema. I don't know if the movie deserved the oscar (ironically people like you get paid to judge) , but i really enjoyed wathching it with ALL it's perfections and imperfections.
85. And by the way...
Noa Rodriguez ,   Israel   (03.05.06)
At least they are palestinians trying to show something about themselves (bad or good). But how come nobody says nothing about Steven Spielberg who did a movie about the Mossad and have never even visited an IDF base. (and if he did forgive me for my mistake, but still it is not HIS reality)... I really would like to know if he will EVER do a movie about the US government creation and support of the Taliban during the cold war. At least this would concern him more than our reality in the middle east.
86. Noa's Just A Regular Einstein : )
Yossi ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (03.05.06)
87. #22 Sara you miss the point
Leo ,   Australia   (03.06.06)
You entirley miss the point by making the following false and very misleading statement: "If you'd read the opinion piece above, you would note that Linor's first argument that this work is a "quality Nazi film" is that there is an Israeli in it who is "ugly." " What a fine distortion of what she really said. Linor made a Nazi analogy quite simply because the film sends the message that killing Jews is acceptable - "its the occupation thats making us do it" "the Jews are poisoning are wells, " etc - never mind that you cant come up with one case study of a well being poisoned and palestinians dying as a result or that the accusation of "well posioning" is an old antisemitic blood libel used to incite hatred and murder against Jews throughout the centuries. And who could forget about the "last supper" scene - another old antisemitic blood libe
88. No excuse for terrorism - Michael U

90. the film is not pro-terrorism
Jimmy ,   Houston, USA   (03.16.06)
Hany Abu-Assad was asked "When you look ahead now, what gives you hope?", "The conscience of the Jewish people" he answered. "The Jews have been the conscience of humanity, always, wherever they go. Not all Jews, but part of them. Ethics. Morality. They invented it! I think Hitler wanted to kill the conscience of the Jews, the conscience of humanity. But this conscience is still alive...Maybe a bit weak...But still alive. Thank God." So please don’t say that the director is anti-Sematic. I think many of you miss the whole point of this film. This is supposed to be an aesthetically pleasing film that presents some sort of opinion to the audience. I don’t think it does make a value judgment to say whether suicide bombings are right/wrong necessary but rather let your own conscience decide. The film never said killing Jews are acceptable; you are just upset because Palestinians are also human. Many of us share some sort of misconception that terrorists have nothing to do on there hands and just decide to get up in the morning to kill people for fun. The movie dispels this misconception by showing us these individuals also have families and live like us and do what all of us do on a day to day basis. It simply gives a human face that’s often hidden or masked by the media; this film gives us a face so we can feel more compassionate and realize the precariousness of life. (go read some Judith Butler). Many tend to see the issue from a one sided perspective either blaming Israel or suicide bombers. The film simply presents 2 sides of the story: Israelis kill innocents just as Palestinians kill innocents in the region. The film could be a perfect portrayal of what Edward Said calls otherization or this US vs. THEM ideology that drives many harsh stupid remarks on this site. Israelis and Palestinians are just stupid social constructions with no inherent value in the first place. The film to me just shows we are all human and the socially constructed separations are retarded and arbitrary.
