I find the opposition to the US Academy Awards nomination & possible choice of "Paradise Now" as Best Foreign Film to be appalling. What's next? There are movies made everyday that humanize serial killers, dictators, assassins, etc. I don't understand this uproar over the movie itself, please at least WATCH the movie before you get outraged over it. All this because of a movie? I didn't see the movie but if the author did not express a peaceful message to cover the sensitivity of the story - towards Palestenians and Israelis and towards all others (like # 39, 47 and 76) - for the viewer to go away satisfied, then the author and the movie maker are selfish and lack intellect. They wouldn't deserve any recognition. Calling names, insults and sarcasm has never led anywhere. On the other side, politicians of both sides (israelis and palestenians), in or out of Israel/Palestine, and the historical politicians too, are the ones to blame for the conflicts that these 2 populations continue living to this day. The Academy awards is no longer a good measure of good movie making. Because we have seen many movies that have been given academy awards knowing very well that internal politics among the movie making world had great influence in tricking the public to pay to see one movie of a specific actor/producer/director one year or the other, as to bring new ideas for people to want to see the academy awards and use them as influence for the consumer. The only interesting part of the Oscars is the starting credit and the small intro of the host. On a more serious note, that's no reason to think that one person SHOULD NOT EXIST. At the writing of this talkback, this abomination of a movie lost the Oscar to a movie from South Africa. Also when they announced the nominees the announcer said that the film came from the "Palestinian Territories" and not from a stillborn corrupt nation. Thank goodness for small miracles!
