To the point about what the IJG wants to acomplish and how it wants to go about doing this...many good points about genealogy in general and how it "cuts across many academic spheres"
My great grandfather came to the USA in about 1918 from Russia to say goodbye to his children who had emigrated from (see subject line). He then moved to Palestine. I've been trying to learn where he is buried. If anyone should come across the name Israel Leventhal on a tombstone or in written records I would be most appreciative learning about this discovery. I would also appreciate learning about any lists of burials in Soroka and Kishinev prior to 1903.
I am most anxious to learn more about the Vilkaviskis, Lithuania (Russian) community prior to the 1900s. My grandfather came from there in 1878 and I have been trying to connect him with other families with that name in the USA and England. I would be most interested if anyone knows of list of burials, births, deaths and marriages in Vilkaviskis as most of the local records were lost due to bombings in WWII. I've always hoped that some information would turn up in Israel, hopefully brought there by early immigrants from Russia. If anyone comes upon any information regarding the community and these names I would be most appreciative if you would contact me.
