The buildings there are there for political reasons not because there is anything important to Islam there. Lets be honest, Allah is not YHWH. Look, lets face it - Jerusalem has become a place for all three faiths for centuries: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. We know that the original inhabitants of Jerusalem are Jews and that Israel is our Promised Land, and we've got our own country and able to administer it. Now we just need to stop playing dirty politics with other communites, particularly with the Arabs, and live coexistently them. Not all the Muslims in Israel are Arabs anyway, some even have Jewish ancestors and what makes them different is their Islamic faith (eg Joseph Cohen and his family). I believe this is not quite correct. The very first mosque was buit with a mihrab on the wall facing Jerusalem. There was some falling out with the local Jews, and a new mihrab was added - facing Mecca. I recall that this is called the "mosque with the two mihrabs".
