1. Wasn't it Shas that said "No women in Knesset"
(02.21.06)
Yeah it was, Shas is not Muslim or Palestinian. Israeli Jews oppose women in the Knesset too.
2. #1 Are any women MK in the Knesset of even Minister sitting
Uzziel   (02.21.06)
in the cabinet? Yes? So shut up. No moral equivalence possible.
3. #1
tl   (02.21.06)
get your facts straight. there are women serving in the knesset and in the cabinet, not to mention that israel was the second country in the world to elect a woman as head of state.
4. #1 So Tzipi Livni (Kadima's #3) & many others don't exist?
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (02.22.06)
Mr. Andreus doesn't want Israeli Arabs to be a part of the broader Israeli society or to have a voice in the broader national political parties; he wants them to be isolated in ethnically-focused minority parties and he wants them to read mostly ethnically-focused minority newspapers. I am SO surprised. Even Mr. Andreus, however, is more constructive than the idiots calling for Arabs to boycott Israeli elections and create useless shadow parliaments. For a list of current Knesset members, in English, see www.knesset.gov.il/mk/eng/mkindex_current_eng.asp
5. Who said no women in the Knesset???
John (i'm #1)   (02.22.06)
That's not what I said in my post (#1) if you people took the time to read my two sentences, I said that a Shas MK said also that he didn't want any women in the Knesset, and that Shas MK is an Israeli Jew and not a Palestinian or a Muslim! Read for yourselves: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3212485,00.html
6. There is a democracy lesson Israeli can learn from palestini
Ghassan ,   Palestine   (02.22.06)
Palestinian women were in the first palestinian parliament elected in 1996 and were also as Cabinet members. Now there are 17 women in the Palestinian cabinet and a significant number in the new parliament , such percentage for women either in the first or second parliament has never been available in Knesset or others. Women already constiutes 55 % of all University students and almost 50% in PA civilian goverment sector. Women have fully all rights in owning and treated as equal in civilian courts. There are lessons a palestinian who are under occupation to teach so called "Middleast Only democracy ".
7. Zohir, Kol Hakavod (bravo), it's about time
Judith ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.22.06)
If I'm not mistaken there are more educated Arab women in Israel, than there are Arab men (and maybe the same in the Jewish sector). It is my opinion that woman can bring real change to Arab and Jewish societies, if given the chance. Of course they still have to fight historic prejudices. Men have to understand that if a society wishes to move forward it cannot do so with only half of the population (countries with equal opportunities for women are more progressive and successful than those who silence women). Even the Zionist parties need to improve women's representation. More men like you need to speak out.
8. araby woman
suja ,   jerusalem   (02.22.06)
araby woman do not like poletics ,,she like social activity araby woman in palastine has all of the rights ,,,but sometimes when a woman do not like anything she said [no no my husbound or my father or brother do not like this ]so to to escape to give reasons and in the same time to give the man his position
9. No, he said women COULD come in.
hanina ,   usa   (02.22.06)
The Shas leader said that the women cannot come into the building during office hours, only afterwards to vacuum and take out the garbage, and to wipe the excrement off the walls.
10. #1
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (02.24.06)
Shas is no more representative of all jews than Al Qaeda is representative for all muslims
11. Jewish women have an array of choices
Susan ,   Philadelphia, USA   (02.25.06)
Shas might not want women in the Knesset, but Israeli women have many other parties that do have women on their lists. Jewish women have a wide array of choices. There isn't a single Arab party with women on their list. I find it unbelievable that Arab leaders cannot find a single capable female candidate in the entire country.
