31. haha Montreal... i think i'll pass the offer, thanks
Laila ,   Paris, France   (02.22.06)
It is very inaccurate to compare the situation of the Jews in France now with the 1930s... My family has been Jewish and French since the 15th century so I think we've seen worst than this current antisemitic period... We've had relative deported too, no need for Yad Vashem to remind us, we also have our own museums here. Now listen: one of the reasons we are attacked is also because we stand for Israel whenever we feel it is attacked, misrepresented in the medias or insulted. Sad truth, we need you to protect us, as much as Israel needs the Jews in Diaspora to speak out and to advocate its right to existence. Oh, and I can already hear the comments, "our army is the best", "we can defend ourselves"... so no need to go for it

I stand by what I said. And I pray that I am wrong.
34. Jane: You are wrong very wrong
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (02.22.06)
I am a holocaust survivor and my parents lived through the Kristallnacht ..... in Berlin (originally from Russia and Poland) The German Jews were no proud Germans in general ........ they were stuck and could not get out America and Great Britain refused us entry. So please don't start your slogan like that, it has nothing to do with Ilan now.. but only hurts many emotions. You have NO right to this. I am certain you were not even born then.
35. To Laila and Jane
Elle ,   NYC   (02.22.06)
Jane, I stand by what you wrote and I stand by what I wrote as well. Laila, you wrote this: " Now listen: one of the reasons we are attacked is also because we stand for Israel whenever we feel it is attacked, misrepresented in the medias or insulted" Please, please, please don't buy into or feed the ridiculous argument that supporting Israel leads to any form of anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism existed LONG before Israel and will always exist having nothing to do with Israel. Really, I can't believe people still buy into this crap. You are smarter than that Laila, of this I am sure. On Montreal, the weather sucks, but it's really a nice city. Not sure where you live but I never found Paris to be that nice at all(way more grafitti than NY) In my opinion Montreal is prettier, but of course lacks the history... If you feel safe in France then I am truly happy for you. When I visit, I don't, so I can't imagine what it's like living there.
36. To Gabrielle
MARK ,   USA   (02.22.06)
After the horrors of the Holocaust, Jews must pay very close attention to Anti-Semitic events wherever they happen. Jews must not take any chances. Lightening can strike twice.
37. TO Gabrielle Goldwater : Jane and I only want to help.
MARK ,   USA   (02.22.06)
The Anti-Semitism will only increase in Europe. Anti-Semitism takes no holiday or vacation. The Muslim population is growing and Europe will Eurabia. This is a fact . Denial is not an option. Either you liquidate the Diaspora or the Diaspora will liquidate you. How bad does Europe have to get? another Warsaw ghetto?
38. there is no denial on my side
Laila ,   Paris, France   (02.23.06)
I never said we feel safe, or we feel confident that we are going to be able to stay in this country for the next 20 years. But to those who wonder why we stay, just realize that we're just very attached, culturally and historically to this country, which is ours. Just like I am sure you are attached to yours. My grandfather and my grandfather's father served in the french army in 1870 and 1914, he fought alongside the resistance during World War II. Now, I certainly don't buy stupid arguments saying we get attacked because we support Israel, but it is true that this is what causes us so much trouble getting the french population on our side. They really don't feel like we belong to this country anymore, and this is our true problem. And the question is not whether we feel safe (we don't) but whether we want to give them the victory to see us leave.

MARK ,   USA   (02.23.06)
They are responsible for this murder. They incite hatred. They are responsible for this as well.
41. Funny...
Jacques ,   Brussels   (02.27.06)
All those people who forget that : - The US sold weapons to Iraq. - The US sold weapons to Iran. - The US supported the rise of the Talibans in Afghanistan. - The US are selling weapons to islamic Saudi Arabia, fatherland of Ben Laden. - the US are still supporting islamic nuclear bomb owner and Taliban supporter: Pakistan. Some people forget why France didn't support US in Iraq: because they foresaw what is indeed happening. Do these people forget that Bush and Blair LIED telling Saddam was close to get the atomic bomb? Probably not but they don't care. For some people, the truth is not an issue, any mean used to reach the target is right for them, whatever are the damages, even if the situation is getting worse, even if their actions have worse results than the previous situation. What they forget is that, wouldn't the US have attacked Iraq, they would now have the hands free to do what should be done with Iran. But now, it is much more difficult, if even possible, for them to do what has to be done.
42. Bashing the French
AB ,   Silver Spring MD, US   (03.06.06)
Its called criticism not bashing and telling it like it is about the french does not mean we are better.
43. B.E'met
AB ,   Silver Spring MD US   (03.06.06)
I completely agree and history supports your claim ... all but the fact that Israel is the only place to be a 100% Jew. There is another place (and sometimes much safer than in Israel) and that is in the US.
44. Laila
AB ,   Silver Spring MD USA   (03.06.06)
hello, McFly!! get off it Leila you are not a Jew. You are right you do not need Yad Vashem to remind you, you need to accept history and realize that the Holocaust happened and the French people (as well as the rest of the world) let it happen. As much as you are trying to convice yourself that the French are above antisemitism the facts speak for themselves. Imagine if this would have happened to a nice Christian boy and included some symbolic items such as aroary or maybe a cricifix - anything hinting toward a crime fueld in part by racial, and or religious intolerance. What would be the french peoples' reaction then? The sad part is that today's France is a far cry from its self exalting Liberte, Fraternite, Egalite ... when it comes to jews as well as muslims.
45. Funny Jacques
AB ,   Silver Spring MD USA   (03.06.06)
Nobody is forgetting and spare us the fingerpointing. We can blame each other for the world's problems and sadly enough we would all be right. In spite of the moral highground you take I am glad to see that you recognize that the US needs "to do what has to be done". That is the difference between or nations. We have done it before and we will continue to do it. We have done it for France ...twice and we will most likely do it again. The fact that you speak french and not german is due in no small part to a nation that understands "what has to be done".
