1. Menachem Begin

Truly one of if not the greatest leader Israel ever had. Honest, decent, ethical, brilliant, fair. A man of class. A true patriot. A man of conviction. He always put the country before any political consideration. We will never see his like again.
2. One-sided liberalism
George Barth ,   USA   (02.22.06)
One aspect of one-sided liberalism was ignored in the otherwise good article. Why are we looking for some kind of liberalism just on the Jewish side? Where is even just ONE such group defending Jewish rights on the Arab side?

Such views do not exist in the Arab world, as evidenced by the cartoon jihad.
4. Great article

We have the leaders but our political and even our non profit organization are being dominated by power brokers with capital and self centered politicians.

the cartoon jihad as you call it has been instrumentalised on both sides: our media showed 200 angry people in Cairo -knowing there are 17millions inhabitants there they could've showed us quiet cafes with pragmatic people as well- BUT NO we prefer to believe the whole arab-muslim world is inhabited by fanatics. I am quite sure Begin never would'have shaken Saddat's hand with your logic in mind!

I would bet that Prime Minister Begin, were he alive today, would definitely shake President's Sadat's hand, were he alive today;. Unlike most of the present leaders of Arab and Islamic countries, President Sadat displayed remarkable courage and commitment to his efforts to spare Egypt further war. He was trying to do what he thought was right for his people, abandoning concern for himself. Name ONE current leader with his level of inner strength.

well done.
9. A Begin style democracy now?
enzo ,   london,uk   (02.24.06)
A Begin style democracy now? Impossible. The world is changing for the worse, and in particular the Middle East. A Begin style democracy would be wonderful only if Israel was part of NATO (and I hope that will happen soon). But right now Israel needs a strong leadership and less diplomacy.

You forgot terrorist. Begin masterminded the terrorist attack on the King David hotel, but sure he was a decent man. Hopefully we will never see his like again, but it's wishful thinking. The Israeli double standards continue.
