Liza ,   Tel-Aviv   (02.27.06)
I hate cheese on my pork
2. 19 Kosher McDonald's??
Simon ,   Jerusalem   (02.27.06)
So the article mentions 2 in Tel Aviv, and I know there is one in Beit Shaan and one in Mevaseret. Where are the other 15?
3. not kosher enough for me
Lady Justice ,   City of Peace   (02.27.06)
Before I converted to Judaism, my kids grew up on Happy Meals and McDonald's was always my first choice for breakfast out or a burger lunch. But when I converted and moved to Israel ten years ago, I began a boycott which has not been interrupted through this day. (Burger Ranch has been my choice ever since and will remain so.) Why? The pure chutzpah of McDonald's Israel in making EVERY McDonald's in the Holy City of Jerusalem NON-KOSHER! I go to Mevasseret and I don't take my big opportunity to eat kosher McDonald's. Because of their lack of respect for the status of Jerusalem, they will never be kosher enough for me. Instead I indulge in kosher KFC. McDonald's, you've been replaced and I don't even miss you!
4. Umm thanks Lady Justice, but no one really cares.

5. KFC?
Gila   (02.28.06)
#3, where oh where is there a kosher KFC? I mourned the one that closed in Jm. Take it over McD any day.
6. Lady Justice - you've got it wrong
Mac Donald   (02.28.06)
McDonalds wanted the Central Bus Station branch to be kosher and the rabbinate refused. Look up the archives and you will see.

To #4. You are a typical secular Jew. Ignorant and Arrogant! We do care what Lady Justice says. We are very proud of her and other converts who have joined us Jews on our journey of kedusha. These converts crave for the beauty of Judaism where as the secular waist all their potential as Jews. Secular Jews like #4 are embarrassed and shamed by the holiness of converts like Lady Justice. To #6. No! It is you who got it wrong! The Rabbanut has a rule that a chain cannot have one branch kosher and another treif in the same city. This obviously causes great confusion as people naturally assume that if one branch is kosher, the other must be. This is why McDonalds was not issued a kashrut certificate at the bus station. How dare McDonalds open non kosher branches in the holy city of Yerushalayim! I heard that their branch in Emek Rafaim was empty where all around, the kosher eateries were all full.
8. Wanting this world and the next one, too.
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.28.06)
If your faith is strong you should be able to live without a Big Mac and someone else eating one shouldn't shake you all so much. I'd add something about civil rights, but some of you are obviously against that on fundamentalist principle.
9. to #7, how do you know #4 is a secular jew?
Jerusalem, Israel   (02.28.06)
10. Say it isn't so, the kosher KFC closed. That was wonderful.

The Hampstead McDs in London has a black sign to fit in with the surroundings.
12. Mcdonald's, Burger ranch and Kfc.... SUCK!!!
Jerusalem,Israel   (02.28.06)

13. Kosher MacDonalds
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.28.06)
I am very pleased to see that Rabbi Lau is now in charge of Kashrut in Tel Aviv. Chabad is making tremendous inroads in Tel Aviv. Moshiah is very near. Jews do not be intimidated by the evil chiloni antisemites ignore their venom. Everytime we express a Torah view they say we are bigotted. Ignore them they are ignorant
14. CHOPPED LIVER AND MCDONALD'S

16. McDonalds is filthy.
Meir Moses   (02.28.06)
People should have access to proper, healthy food. Kosher or not.
17. Another Kosher McDonalds
Jessica ,   Jerusalem   (02.28.06)
There is also a kosher McDonald's at the airport, and you can eat there without having to be a passenger- it's before the security. But if you are going to fly somewhere, I advise not to eat there, because McDonald's combined with a nauseating 12 hour flight right after can be really unpleasant!
18. to 4 and 7
Hilda ,   USA   (03.04.06)
Fine---a convert but I loathe the holier than thou stance. I applaud McDonald's for coming to Israel and having Kosher branches. As you know, there are those who would divest itself from Israel and not do business with her.
19. McDs
Clive ,   UK   (03.09.06)
One thing is sure, McDs in Israel are a damn sight better than McDs here in UK, lot bigger and tastier.
20. another clive
clive hart ,   london   (03.10.06)

21. hechsher costs
peter ,   amsterdam, NL   (03.10.06)
The hiring of a shomer, the cost of getting the certificate(renewable) is prohibitive. Since all McDonalds get their ingredients from the same supplier and the staff are trained the same way, what is the fuzz all about? You choose your own meal and presumably don't order a shake with your burger. Is the frying oil purely vegetable, I read that they had to take out beef additives in India. Eating kosher can become a holy cow. It's pilpul if you ask me.
