2. Jewish parents send kid to a Catholic school?
Amir ,   Israel   (03.01.06)
That is the furnace. I thought there were Jews and Jewish schools in Paris- or even public schools.
3. Yediyiot Please tell me ....
Hiram ,   tel aviv   (03.01.06)
What Parisian famous school ? and where is it located ? ........?????? Is it Polytechnic ? Heni IV ? Lycee Montaigne ? Louis Le Grand ? HEC ? .....these are " prestigious"...the rest are " Normal" .....and lousy !
4. Still better hanging with christians than...
Jul ,   Paris   (03.01.06)
...in public schools these days in Paris or its suburbs. Public schools are litterally invaded by immigrants' children which usually are way more hostile to jewish children than this unsensitive teacher could have been. Sometimes you don't have the choice between good and bad but between two levels of bad. Choose the lesser.
5. France has a prestigeous school? Who are you kidding?

Racists and anti French. Either get irid of themor go Irael or the USA. Enough is enough
7. Inappropriate statement
(03.01.06)
But do we even know whether the teacher knew that the young man was Jewish? It is a Catholic school, after all. I usually would assume that a child who attends a religious school, belongs to that faith. All of the Jewish schools I know of have a strict process of determining the Jewishness of the pupil before allowing him to join. As a child and grandchild of professors, I know first hand of the stress teachers have to endure. Especially these days with youths so rude and disrespectful. Everyone has their blunders. And a few bad seeds disrupting the entire classroom really can drive a sane educator over the edge. What is appalling is that in France there is no freedom of speech. There are actually criminal detectives investigating what connotation was implied in a sentence said from a teacher to a student. Speech ought to be free, no matter how nasty. Jailing people for thinking, writing, and speaking is a characteristic of fascism.
8. Teacher 'sends' Jewish student to furnace
Gabby ,   Bucharest, Romania   (03.01.06)
A Jewish pupil in a public / private Catholic school or in a public / private school where most of the pupils are Catholic!? There are many better of ways of putting an end to a chat between pupils during the lessons than kicking them out of the class while shouting at them something with Anti-Semitic connotations! I am shocked by what is going on in France. I was shocked to read that Ilan Halimi was a young man of my age! And now I am shocked to read that a French teacher offends his pupil in such a disgusting manner!
9. Wait until more is said ....
Hiram ,   Tel Aviv   (03.01.06)
Until the real truth comes up ( if it does , because it appears that the information is not exactly what it should have been ) I would hold on my horses !!!! and not see anti-semiticism everywhere short of becoming like "them" and starting a JIhad !!!!
10. Inappopriate statement ?
Albert Capino ,   Paris France   (03.01.06)
No freedom of speech in France ? Well, Mr. Anonymous, be informed that a "humorist" calling the Jewish religion "the first swindle", comparing sionism to racism and stating that the Jews "became bankers enriched by slavery" has been released of all charges for antisemitism. Rappers using apology of murder in their texts are also walking free. And I suppose that teachers "sending" Jews to furnace should be considered as a "sane educators" as per your standards ? There is a level when avoiding full enforcement of the law is not fighting against facism. It is cowardice, political blindness and moral treason. Hyper-violence is nourished by the weakness of people thinking just like you. Freedom of speech, of information, is alright as long as it does not encourage criminal acts. Investigation is fair when outrageous speeches have been aimed at a person, a group or a State, (like Ahmadinejad recently did). These clearly lead to murderous violence, as we unfortunately saw happen over the last weeks in France and in Europe. Letting go will undoubtedly lead to all excesses. That's when it becomes fascism, and this is what we want to avoid, as it would not "disrupt" only a classroom, but the whole society we live in. The law does not preclude free speech, nor does it avoid protests, investigations and legal actions against behaviours that lead to crime. We have tools, we have laws, so let's use them. To their full extent ! Albert, Paris
11. Why is a jewish kid going to catholic school ?
andrew ,   miami, Fl   (03.01.06)
duh...such things should be expected
12. Of course the teacher knew
Chaya ,   Israel   (03.01.06)
Of course the teacher knew the kid was Jewish. School began in September and here it is the beginning of March. (What the kid was doing in a catholic school is another question.) The teacher knew very well what he was saying. This teacher should be kicked out of the school system immediately; but who knows if that will happen. Look what happened with Mayor Livingstone. He has already been reinstated and allowed to return to his job. We can't expect justice for Jews in Europe anymore. IT'S TIME TO COME HOME! And unlike before, now we do have a home to go to!!
13. Stan Colorige -what do you mean?
Sigfried S. Kuhn ,   Aberdeen   (03.01.06)
Who are the racists and antiFrench that you want to get rid of?
14. Why Catholic school?
Steve Allan ,   Ft. Lee ,NJ, USA   (03.01.06)
The real question is "Why do parents send a Jewish child to a Catholic school?"
15. Catholic school
Jacques ,   Paris   (03.01.06)
first of all catholic school doensn't mean necessary Catholic but it can mean Private School. You can go in a catholic school without learning catechism. The issue is that in France in some areas you have too many muslims in the public school so it's quite impossible for a jew to stay there and they can't go in another public school because it depends on your address. I've heard about this case three weeks ago and I don't have specific details but maybe the parents are not both jews. The purpose of my talk is that you can't blame parents to send their children in a catholic school without knowiing all the details. Jacques
16. Why send a Jewish kid to a Catholic School
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (03.01.06)
Probably, the reason a Jewish family would send their child to Catholic school is because the Catholic school is cheaper than a Jewish one. Public schools with huge numbers of Muslims are obviously too dangerous.
17. GENOCIDE BEGINS WITH WORDS

18. File a lawsuit against the Catholic Church
MARK ,   USA   (03.01.06)
The Vatican needs to speak out against this remark. Silence is not an option. They did that during the Holocaust and until this day deny it.
19. #7 Would you make a similar statement if...
AK   (03.01.06)
...any teacher in the US suggested to a Black student that if he doesn't like his punishment, he can always be hung from a tree, I wonder? Would you protect this kind of free speech as well? And yes, there are Jewish, Buddhist Muslim and Protestant children in Catholic schools.
20. Many private schools in Europe are Catholic owned
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (03.01.06)
but are not catholic education. These schools have normally good teachers and excellent secular education they are not religious biased, more affordable and are stringent in their security for any religion. They have not the terrible record of public shools that cannot provide security for their kids
22. #7--What is wrong with your brain?
Drumgole ,   Newark NJ   (03.01.06)
Instead of your idiotic babbling about freedom of speech and hypothesizing about whether the teacher knew the student was Jewish, why don't you understand that the teacher was wrong and obviously incompetent, cruel, and in violation of accepted pedigical techniques. Would your idea of freedom of speech allow teachers to issue ethic slurs against students?
23. 7- exactly- and
(03.01.06)
thats what the jews are doing lately- fasict jailing of people for free thoughts and opinions- jews have been at this intensely in the last years- heckling ANYONE who has a thought in favor of PAlestine- calling them anti-semties- they are really ugly pit bulls sometimes-
24. Insight into the REAL Catholic Church
Deborah ,   West Lafayette, USA   (03.01.06)
"In the early 1940's, a young Polish salesman, employed by I.G. Farben Chemical company sold cyanide to the Nazis, for use in Auschwitz. He also worked as a chemist manufacturing the cyanide gas that exterminated millions of Jews and other peoples. Fearing for his life after the war, he took refuge in the Catholic Church and was ordained a priest in late 1946. In 1958 he was ordained Poland's youngest bishop. After the 30 day reign and assassination of his predecessor, he assumed the papacy as Pope John Paul II." The above is a quote from "Behold a Pale Horse" by the late William Milton Cooper. Mr Cooper was a former Naval Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy.
25. Anti-Semitism, French style
Dr RJP ,   Florida, USA   (03.01.06)
It would not matter if the school was run by Orthodox Jews! An anti-Semitic person does not have to wear a swastika on his or her arm or carry a sign saying "Death to Israel." In other words, anti-Semitism emerges from within an individual's heart., and no matter how they may pretend to be "sensitive" to Jews, there will always be something to reveal their true character. We see it all the time. It only takes a single "slip of the tongue" to reveal their true nature. Remember Jesse Jackson's "Himey" remark?
26. Amalek & Esav
(03.01.06)
The LAW in the "Code of Jewish Law" states that Esav hates Yaacov. Why a law? So you should know that such a phenomenon, based on blind hatred, exits. Period. And when Moshiach reveals himself, he'll remove their presence and memory once anf for all - may it be NOW!
27. 25 and??
USA   (03.01.06)
your point is? How many Jews here HATE ARABS and call them towel heads , dirty, etc. and the like/ MOST OF YOU- I still dont think you should be put in JAIL- I still would stand by your right for free speech- no matter how foul and racist your mouth is- Once you start monitoring the toungue-like you jews want - it is the beginning of the end of ALL freedom- WE ALL say things in anger we dont mean- ALL of us at one time or another called someone a name meant to HURT- not necessarily the truth-
28. Still better hanging with Christians
Janet ,   Waukesha, USA   (03.01.06)
I am a Christian believer and I am so sorry that your experience with Christians is less than positive! I feel I have more in common with Jewish believers than I do with "Christians" of mainstream denominations. Maybe its just my American perspective but of all of the true Christian believers I know, all of us love Israel and the Jewish people with a passion. I realize that at times our faiths may collide doctrinally speaking, but that doesn't change my love for G-d's people.
29. furnace comment by teacher
Valerie ,   Canal Winchester, OH   (03.01.06)
As a teacher who has been in the majority race/religion where I worked only infrequently, I abhor the comment, but empathize with the teacher. We know only the comment, not what led up to it in not only the previous minutes, but days, and months. The comment was out of line. Had it been my child, I'd have gone personally to the teacher and explained my complaint. If still not satisfied, on to the principal, and on up the line (parish priest over the school, or however it is organized in France) etc. I would have kept it PRIVATE, however. I can say this, because I have done this. I have also been on the receiving end of a principal's rerprimand for an action taken totally out of context. (I "grabbed" a pencil from a students hand as my principal walked in he door.) I was publically reprimanded, and immediately I lost the respect of my students--as did he principal, for the kids knew what had happened. Education was disrupted for days until I had regained my students trust and we were able to put the incident behind us. The teacher in France needs to make things right in his classroom. That is punishment enough. The student, if a continual disruptive one needs "council" from his parents on HIS behavior, not his teacher's behavior. Sometimes offensive remarks are made. It goes more the the offending person's upbringing usually rather than what he may feel when not stressed. As adults we should show the way to handle inappropriate comments/actions in a mature way rather than allowing it to be blown out of proportion. (And the teacher MUST apoligise!)
30. French Jewish kid in a Catholic School
richardo ,   New York City, USA   (03.01.06)
A good reason why that kid was going to Catholic school might be the poor quality of education in the public schools there. If his parents are secular Jews, they might prefer a Catholic school to sending him to a yeshiva. Cathloci schools pride themselves on being religion-neutral towards non-Catholics, so the fault is with the nasty teacher. IMO.
