1. Nuclear
Shaka ,   New York   (03.10.06)
Mr. Straw is adding fuel to the fire. Why mention Israels Nuclear cababilities at a time when you are trying to end Iran's. Israel has been very responsible with their Nuclear Deterrant. Israel also has not signed any agreements not to have Nuclear weapons and therefore has not violated its obligations. Iran on the other hand has not only signed agreements and violated them but has sponsored more terrorism in the world than anyone else including Al Queda. Iran has also stated its official goal of destroying Israel by any means neccessary. Israel on the other hand has nuclear weapons for many years and has never used them even against enemies who have attacked them. Mr. Straw should consider giving up his own countries nuclear deterrant before he gives up Israel. Israel is an easy target and will always be a scapegoat for the international community but those who throw rocks shouls not live in glass houses. Iran is a threat because of its Islamist ambitions to all Israel is a threat to all that seek to threaten it only which is a big difference.
2. STRAW'S COMMENTS
JOCAMEL ,   CANADA   (03.10.06)
how about a nuclear free british empire? do what you preach for others mr straw
3. How about nuke-free britain.
AK   (03.10.06)
Lets add britain to the axis -of -evil. then we can go after the french and chinese and russians and pakis and indians and the us. only then go after israel, and not before. ISRAELIS, THE CZECHS IF THE XXI CENTURY.
4. The Brits should mind their own business
Daniel ,   Israel   (03.10.06)
Sober Brits should inform arrogant Straw that Britain is no longer an empire but a tiny isolated island. The only thing Britain today has in common with old Britain, is its disgusting and consistent sucking-up policy to Arab dictators and anti-Jewish hypocrisy. Britain should disarm its own nuclear weapons and braindead politicians like Straw. We Israelis don't take orders from anyone and we preserve the right to defend ourself regardless what the "international community" thinks. Mr Begin set things straight with Iraq in 1981 and Israel will set things straight with the mullahs in Iran. No more free lunches for Jew-murderers!
5. Mr. Straw who is the real Threat ?
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (03.10.06)
What about the UK and France etc ... giving up theirs ??? Who is really the threat and who is the one threatened ? In fact the UK policies in the past towards Israel have been a real threat for Israel . The EU with the UK has been funding terrorism Europe Underwrites Palestinian Terror [by "Funding for Peace Coalition" [FPC] ] http://goldwater.mideastreality.com/2006/feb/22_12.html You can write to Mr. Straw: gen.ho@gtnet.gov.uk
6. Because they are also pointed at Europe
andrew ,   Miami   (03.10.06)
yep - let the truth be told - and its a good thing...the EU would think twice before setting upon israel - its only a matter of time and a false reason.. Israel has been nothing BUT responsible with them how dare he !! Sorry Jack - Kiss our A**

"Mr. Straw is adding fuel to the fire. Why mention Israels Nuclear cababilities at a time when you are trying to end Iran's." Ummm maybe because it's HYPOCRYTICAL to ask one country not to build nukes before they have them, when another country a few thousand miles away has over 200!!!! Ever think of that one?

(03.10.06)
Why should Britain mind its own business on this issue but America shouldn't? You're gonna tell me it's because Britain is "appeasing Arabs" aren't you? Well America is "appeasing Jews" then, look at both sides of the coin.
9. nukes

12. The big buttinsky

16. Try it!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.10.06)
Who the hell do you think you are strawman? Just try to take our nukes with your pitable toy army. This is not the time of the mandate. We kick ass! These limies are a real pain. We are not living in the time of the empire. You do not scare us,you sad sack. Maybe we will take away your nukes and make a nuclear-free british isles. Putting us together with iran. 1. Britain is the nation that created Israel!? That's a misguided, misinformed, propagandized things I've ever heard. And don't claim that the UN created Israel, either. 2. Israel may be, "a very limited community," IN LAND SIZE. But considering that it has faced countless foes over the thousands of years of its existence, what makes you think it would vanish now? Hamas? Iran? 3. "Respect the will of people and nations?" Did Syria respect it when it razed entire cities? Did Jordan respect it when it didn't let all those people in? Is Iran, Saudia Arabia, etc.??? Come on...
19. The British have forgotten They have NO more an Empire
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (03.10.06)
They have nothing to say They cannot even control their own sad state of turning into a Muslim State. Their Royals were of German desend it shows and rubs off as we see Ask any Brit about the holocaust - well they never saw a train leaving from their shitty little Island They never took an extra load to give shelter to Jews during the Nazi times Their sorry excuses are sickening
20. British arrogance
Sidney ,   U.S.   (03.10.06)
Britain, a second rate power, which caused more than half of the problems in today's world when it was a real power, now arrogantly tries to dictate to Israel. Britain, which always was a nation run by incompetent snobs, attained power because a storm stopped the Spanish Armada and it profited from the genius of Scottish inventors. Who really cares what Britain wants in the Middle East, or anywhere else for that matter? Bug off, Jack Straw!
21. #11 - learn some history
Sidney ,   U.S.   (03.10.06)
Britain did everything that it possibly could to stop the creation of Israel. The world, and sometimes I think Israel's leaders, forget how strong Israel really is. There is no nation on earth that has the power to destroy Israel without paying an incredibly high price. The Palestinians survive because Israel has never used its full power against them. Most of today's "great" powers have not shown such forebearance. All the permanent members of the Security Council have displaced indigenous populations in order to achieve their imperial goals. If Britain disappeared from the face of the earth, it would barely affect Israel.
22. Straw Can Strip Britain of Their Nukes. They Hold No Power
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (03.10.06)
Straw will get nowhere when it comes to this issue. Almost all the powers to be in Israel understand one salient fact of life in the middle east - WITHOUT a nuclear arsenal as its life preserver, living in the jungles of the middle east would be untenable and suicidal. The ONLY reason why the Arab states have not achieved their goals of wiping Israel off the map is because of its (unstated) nuclear arsenal. If Straw wants to blow smoke he is free to do so. The first leader in Israel who would agree to such a disaster of a policy will indeed have reason to fear for his life from the citizens at large. You can only push one's citizens so far without extreme blowback.
23. Only WE will decide what is best for us
Arie   (03.10.06)
The last time the Jews allowed others to make that decision, over 6 million of our people were murdered!
24. First sane position regarding nukes...
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City   (03.10.06)
in the middle east ever! I second Mr. Straw point of view! Yes we are worried about Iran's seeking nuclear weapons as much as we are worried about the clear fact of Israel nuclear warheads! All Middle East nations much be nuclear free in order for there to be a meaning peace because owning a nukes means the power to blackmail and neither Israel nor the Arabs or Iran can be trusted with such dangerous weapons! Peace.
25. angenda has always been to disarm Israel
Marcel ,   Florida   (03.10.06)
Irna is just a red hering .The arab westewrn agenda is to disarm Israel to make it's extermination much easier to accomplish. Why not stop North Korea from it's Nuclear threat and export of nuclear weapons and intercontinental missiles ? Why not stop Pakistan's export of Nuclear technology and arrest Dr. Kahan for his illegal proliferation of Nuclear technology ? No, the focus will be on making Israel more impotent than it already is to help out the Arab league and other assorted hordes. The only problem with their agenda is that Iran will not go according to plan !
26. Re:7
Warren ,   US   (03.11.06)
No it is not "HYPOCRYTICAL" at all. Iran is a signatory of the NPT. While receiving all of the benefits (foreign assistance on a massive scale ) of remaining a party to the treaty, the Iranian regime has been serially cheating for decades. It has used its' wealth to make a complete mockery of the entire NPT. Iran has no problem with the "rights" part of the treaty but accepts no obligations of any signifigance. If Iran didn't want to be obligated in any way including dealing with inspections, it should have withdrawn its' signature from the NPT at the point in time that it decided it wanted nuclear weapons. Iran also demands the complete destruction of another country while hosting international suicide bomber conferences and exporting terrorism.
27. British foreign policy
Hiram ,   tel aviv   (03.11.06)
British forein policy is still an heritage from the empire days. The official policy is to please arab countries not only because arabs have billions invested in England ( just in case a push for democracy would suddenly remove leaders from power ) but also because of the long time ties between Great Britain and the arab countries ( quite a few of them are the pure product of british foreign policy ) including Londonistan. Nuclear armament in Europe is NOT a problem. Nuclear armament in Iran IS the problem because Iran is a Moslem Extremist Theocracy who is openly claiming destruction of Israel and because it is a theocracy the behavior of its government is for the less erratic, dangerous, and not compatible with civilized nations. Untill Iran becomes a respectable nation, which in view of the situation could take years, Iran and its extremist theocratic government is not to be trusted and as such, is not to be allowed anything more than a few " enfield guns". Iran's unability to properly maintain an air force is clear, it is now necessary to ensure that one way or an other, their " peaceful nuclear program " is halted, peacefully if possible, militarily if other options, including diplomacy, do not yield the expected result
28. Mr. Straw and his Dhimmitude
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (03.11.06)
Mr. Straw's persistent dhimmitude (remember his reaction on the Danish cartoons?) Word has it, that his son converted to Islam... Interestingly enough, Straw's son made the papers some time ago when he was caught trying to sell cannabis. Wouldn't be the first time former third rate junkies turn to Islam, now would it? We should investigate same a bit closer
29. Abdullah, Kuwait City: Have you ceased yet to Boycott
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (03.11.06)
Israel and it's trade ?
30.  Nukes
RPM ,   Chehalis, WA,USA   (03.11.06)
Jack Straw is only a member of Parliment. He is not always on the right track. The only major player on the world stage is America and America will not condemn Israel for having nuclear arms, if Israel even has them. Britain will follow the US on this matter, in the end.
