If you really want to know what men like Rav Ovadia are saying you will first need to hear them in Hebrew. Rav Ovadia is a truly great man with an intellect far greater than any of the journalist who write for the various Israeli news media. He does not make silly statements. The State of Israel should respect the ultra ultra orthodox Jews living in Israel and reserve for them an enclose area to live in surrounded by high walls for each sect. Living for centuries in ghettos and having the neurons filled up with talmudic and cabalistic chochmah they are a total lost case for a modern dynamic and productive society. Religion is a free option for free people in a democratic state and they, the ultra ultra orthodox, should appreciate already the ban impose on part of the country of freedom of movement on Sabbath and the very generous approach of the state concerning their low tax and low participation in the army. Now regarding Shas, as a religious Jew, I find Shas attitude too naive. So they have an explanation why people who they don't agree with or consider evil, suffer. So then, why do religious people also suffer then? I mean, Rav Kaduri also suffered. Shas's attitude is too naive. Suffering cannot and should not be considered as a black and white punishment for wrong doings. It's more complicated than that.

Why do Rabbis think that they are modern day prophets to whom God explains what he does and why? Perhaps these Rabbis ought to do a bit more studying and remember that our holy texts and sages teach us that there are no prophets today.
