Yisraeli   (03.19.06)
Why dont you inform us how much the EU pays Beilin monthly as a paid foreign agent working for EU interests and not Israels?
2. Oh, for God's sake, what will it take to wake these dormant
Judith ,   Haifa   (03.19.06)
people up? Come on, the Pals know that you lefties are gullible and know how to manipulate you by saying what you want to hear. Dream on but do it somewhere else to minimize the damage you have and are doing to Israel. Ask your friend Uri Avneri if he would have demonstrated against the Jericho operation had the Pals killed Rabin? Or maybe he thinks Yigal Amir should be released from Jail. I know that you lot do what you do out of (what you believe are) good intentions, but we all know what the road to hell is paved with. The Pals just love Israeli lefties, because they know they can sell you anything and you'll buy it as quick as young child accepting candy and from a friendly pedophile. Incredibly, no matter what the Pals do, it's the sweet words that work for Lefties. The Pals say it is day (when we can all see it is night) and the Lefties accept that it is night. The Pals can never do wrong, poor creatures, what can be expected of them? They are occupied. I ask you then why is it that when they are not they are still. Gaza is no longer in Israeli hands, so what are they waiting for? And when Israel leaves the rest of the "occupied territories" they will still be occupied, because the occupation is a strong part of their identity, and when it is gone (whatever that means for them), they will have to find something or someone else to blame for their ineptness. The Polish people still blame the Jews for everything although there are hardly any Jews in Poland today.
3. Amos Oz's previous prediction - Oslo will bring Peace!

4. Give me a break
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (03.19.06)
The Palestinian tragedy is that they've always been more interested in the destruction of Israel than a construction of Palestine. Pray, what has Abas achieved since taking office?? One great big nothing. Where are these "moderates" on the Palestinian side? Why is nothing ever heard from them? And if Israel were to recognize Abas alone, what good would it do? Would it give him more legitimacy or authority among the Palestinians? More likely he'd be decried as an Israeli stooge and lynched. The only way forward is to disengage from the Palestinians completely, on our own terms, and have them gradually come to their senses on the other side of the security fence.
5. Amoz Oz's article
Sandra ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.19.06)
Once upon a time I was also very hopeful of a successful peace deal with the Palestinians. Not now, and I'm still waiting for their "Peace Now" movement!! Anyone seen or heard of it?
6. I would of expected the left to be a little more modest
(03.19.06)
After the utter faliure that brought us battalions of suicide bombers and rocket showers on our cities, yes, that delusive dream called "Oslo", the same one that brought us 1700 dead. But no, the left remained arrogant as ever, so there are two options, one is that the left is simply blinded to reality and still thinks that there is a new middle east and Arabs love us, the second is that 1700 dead Jews are simply not much of a matter for you, and I wouldnt want to believe that. Your plan sounds exactly the same as Oslo.. "A new middle east... Fatah and Israel against Hamas and Jihad... Diplomatic relations with the Arab world"... we know how that ended. Another thing, what you are saying sounds exactly like one of Bibi's speeches, and I take a few quotes, with your premission. "Change the balance of powers amongst the Palestinians in favor of the moderates" "No unilateral actions" The difference is, that Bibi will do this in order to strenghen the moderates, but he will only do it out of a position of power, and you can trust Bibi, who has a degree in architechture, and who was a brilliant soldier and commander, to set up the borders so that Israel would remain safe, and not your 67' Auschwitz borders. Your lunatic plan of "Bypassing Hamas" by sticking your head in the sand and trying to ignore its existence, let alone its 60% majority in the Palestinian parliment, is simply, well, crazy. You should take it along with your movement "Shalom Achzav" and throw it in the dustbin of history.
7. oz is really getting old!
me ,   here   (03.19.06)
and insane... the defenition of insanity is the repeat of the same action ,hoping for a different outcome.......... we've been hearing about the beilin plans since the oslo dark days... we've been hearing about oz, avneri ,aloni's cliam that there's somoeone out there to talk to __ well, but that someone is in their heads , not a real person. give it a rest once and for all. and stop taking all these dillusional - inducing drugs ... they are working!
8. There is someone to talk to
Ceaser ,   Ariel, Israel   (03.19.06)
No one can take Oz and his camp seriously after all we in Israel have endured. There is No One to talk to!
9. were these bums ever right?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.19.06)
For the danger that they placed us into with their oslo garbage they should be tried for treason. Better yet for stupidity! Beilin you are a wimp and should beashamed of what you have done to our country. amos oz should go to see the wizard of oz and ask for a brain.
10. Yes, there's someone to talk to!
Nyctamere ,   Chelm-al-Mukhtalla   (03.19.06)
Apart from the walls, I mean. There are people on the other side, that are just that. People. We shouldn't let them down. we should do our best to shield them from the coming islamofascist regime's oppression by waging relentless war on the terrorists. And we should not stand aside and watch them starve if we can help it. Apart from that, it is clear that if Oz and the rest of the moonbats still resist undestanding anything that's said in Arabic, and are still unable, or unwilling, to read what MEMRI translates for free into plain English for their benefit, nothing can save them from the inevitable extinction that comes with the inability to change and to adapt to a changing reality. There may be Arab moderates. I know a few. But "Palestinian" and "moderate" are contradictory terms. I truly believe that Beilin and his ilk are honest and well-meaning humanists. They just cannot understand, or accept, that the Palestinian identity, and indeed the whole Palestinian narrative, is only about one thing: the destruction of Israel.
11. Amos OZ

Israelis get what they deserve !
12. Labor the true voice of the left
a ginsburg   (03.20.06)
Do I detect a lack of sincerity in Oz's endorsement of Meretz/Beilin this time around? The article has less passion than the parallel article by the 18 year old promoting Likud. Perhaps Amos you know in your heart that the only meaningful vote in 2006 is a vote for Labor and Peretz.
13. Amos Oz
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (03.20.06)
Ignore Sharon, Olmert, Beilin, Oz are any of them Jewish? I doubt it. Are any of the chilonim Jewish? I doubt it. Its time Jews woke up. Don't be influenced by the eruv rav, goyim and talmidim of the goyim. Let them all go and play with the arabs in Azza, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, America, Canada, Europe etc. We Jews have got better things to do. Vanefachu, Yericho
14. The best way
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.20.06)
I believe it was mao who said the best way to talk to someone is through the barrel of a rifle. I do not know who to recognize in the p.a.,but I recognize the fact that oz does not represent the state of Israel.meretz does not worry about our security. Why worry about our enemies? Let the damn palis drop dead. amos go back to writing your books and keep out of politics. You do not know what you are writing about.
15. I am from Palestine, Listen.
(03.20.06)
Hi everybody, There is a quite popular myth that Palestinians do not like Jews. That is completely untrue. I am a Palestinian. Raised in a very religious family (Muslims), and live in Gaza for 8 years. During the peace time (from 1993 to 2000) I had friends from all over Israel, Jews, and they used to visit my house, come to Gaza and spend a fantastic time together (We used to go in groups of 50s). Similarly, i visited Beir Shevaa, kerem Shalom, Gaesh, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Tabriya, etc. They couldn't believe they could walk in the streets of Gaza SAFELY. They loved it. They swam in the Palestinian controlled beaches. It was just marvelous. I am stil in touch with them. And by the way, I am not a traitor. I do not work with the Israelis, but I believe in people. I believe that we could all live together on the land. Arabs and Jews. When i came here to UK (where I am at the moment), I still have many Israeli friends, we talk, we have different opinions, we agree on many things, etc. We are always friends, very good friends. I lived in Palestine, and I am telling you, most Palestinians are happy to live with Jews in Palestine, but not happy to live oppressed, occupied, prevented from going wherever they like, and basically being treated as second class citizens on their land. It is their land, just as it is now the Israelis. Both nations lived there for too long now to be removed (unless with genocide!). have a good day people, leave fanatism aside!
16. What?
Sigfried S. Kuhn ,   Aberdeen   (03.20.06)
Now let me get this straight. Hamas is a triumphalist religious movement that openly calls for the destruction of Israel. They are in charge because the Palestinians elected them. Yet, Oz wants to negotiate with those not in power. Apparently, they (Hamas) are willing to negotiate a false truce with Israel in order to consolidate their rule and build up their military strength. The so-called moderates in this group are non-existent except that some may prefer to expel the Jews while the less moderate want to commit genocide. Hamas is in charge and the absurd statement by Oz that less than 50% of the Palestinian vote that resulted in an overwhelming electoral victory was somehow a fluke is so insane that it is diagnostic of Oz's mental health. Remember, Pres. Bush lost the popular vote to Al Gore in 2000 yet he won power because of his victory in the Electoral College and he is the President. Hitler also did not gain an absolute majority in the Reichstag (unlike Hamas'majority in the Palestinian Reichstag) but the nazis did become the most powerful party and soon assumed complete control of Germany. Where are Oz's moderates with power other than in his delusional system? Does he mean Al Aqsa or does he mean PFLP? Does he mean those Palestinians who advocate disarming the terrorist gang? Whoops, I forgot. There aren't any Abbas supporters who want to disarm terrorists. Are there Palestinians who want to negotiate a peace with Israel that will end in a Jewish State living in peace with a peaceful Palestinian State that absorbs the refugees from squalor? Or there any Palestinians in power that are calling for international aid to be used for education, hospitals and teaching tolerance? Only Oz, Beilin, and the delusional seem to be able to find these people. Who are they? Oz, Beilin, and their supporters have lost credibility among the people of Israel. They are a tiny and discredited minority. However, their insistence on promulgating their delusional fantasy (that the Palestinians are really the people they want them to be) does nothing except give aid and comfort to the true enemies of Israel in Europe and the US and imperil the welfare of every Israeli child, including their own.
17. To #16: well...
Jacques ,   Brussels   (03.20.06)
Did ever Palestinians reject to talk and even negociate with the butcher Sharon, or fanatic Nethanyahu?? Why should Israel to reject talking to Hamas? What's the cost of talking to someone? They have written in their chart that they want to destroy Israel? Big deal, there are not able to do it and they know it. But what's funny is that they know that they may negociate with Israel to get some concessions just to remove this ink from their covenant, as it happened with the PLO. Moreover, Israel has maybe not written it wants to destroy Palestine and the Palestinians but it is DOING it everyday. So start talking and let see what will happen. And if it is proven that one may not negociate with Hamas, they will lose the next elections. The issue is that most of those who don't want to negociate with Hamas do not want to negociate at all but want to impose a solution.
18. To #8
Jacques ,   Brussels   (03.20.06)
The issue is that it unfortunately seems that their is no one to talk to... in Israel. Your motto comes from the failed negociations of Camp David II were all Barak offered to the Palestinians was a Palestine split in at least five of six disconnected pieces. Which people in the universe would ever accept such a deal?? And after that, Barak was stupid enough to tell everywhere that he had given everything, tried everything. THAT IS NOT TRUE! The proof? Taba negociations that were SUCCESFULL but too late. And there is yet another proof: Geneva initiative. But I may understand that you, especially in Ariel, do not want such a Peace. The issue is that you have to understand that if you do not want such a Peace, you simply want the war. And then you have to openly admit it. One cannot have butter, money of butter and the smile of the dairy girl in premium!!!
19. Jacques, you make no sense at all
Sigfried S. Kuhn ,   Aberdeen   (03.20.06)
Jaques, what did negotiations with Hitler accomplish other than to give him time to build his military into the most powerful in the world? Oh yes, it served one other purpose . It led to the abandonment of the proud and democratic Czechoslovakia.Your totally stupid poo-pooing of the stated Hamas intention to destroy Israel just shows where you and the other idiots of the left are. On a more recent note, what did negotiations with Arafat accomplish other than to kill more Israeli citizens during the time of Oslo than in all the previous years of Israel's existence. If Hamas consolidates power, there will be no more free elections. The territories under its control will became radicalized even more than they are now and a terrorist Islamic State. Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf what his goals and ambitions were and your fellow Europeans poo-poohed it-just like you are doing with Hamas. The free world doesn't need input from people like you because you don't know what you are talking about. Negotiations take place in an environment where two opponents or enemies want to settle the issues. What are the issues that Hamas wants to settle other than Israel's destruction. P.S. Congratulations to Belgium for the wonderful humanitarian behavior when they controlled the Congo.
20. That's the problem with Israeli Left -- they talk and talk .
AK   (03.20.06)
and cannot be able to shot up, even when there is nobody to talk to.
21. Jaques, Sharon and Hamas are not the same...
AK   (03.20.06)
and should not even be mentioned in the same sentence. But since you like and approve of Hamas sooooo much, you'll have no problem to adjust to Sharia and your wife to burkha in Brussels-- good for you since EU is already talking to your home-grown jihadists, looking for accomodation.
22. Sigfried S. Kuhn , the error of your thinking is...
AK   (03.20.06)
that you assume that Jacques, here ,would be unhappy over Hitler's conquests while in fact the opposite might be true and it is that he only regrets Hitler’s loss of the war. You simply forget how many Belgians served in Waffen SS and Jacques’s folk may well be in those numbers. This may account for Belgian hostility towards Israel and affinity with the Palestinian Arabs, the people who threaten or promise (depending on your view) to finish the Holocaust.
23. Jaques, your reply to#8 shows your ignorance
Jonathan and Mollie ,   Pennsylvania   (03.20.06)
Jacques, we have to hand it to you for sheer unadulturated ignorance. If your allegation about Barak's offer was correct, why did President Clinton and Dennis Ross blame the failure to resolve the Israeli/Palestinian dispute totally on Arafat? Were they slaves of a Zionist conspiracy? Also, why didn't Arafat come up with a counter-proposal if he wanted peace? By now, every non-delusional or non-hater of Israel is well aware of the following facts: 1. Arafat already was planning the next terrorist war and there were no offers that Barak could have made that would have stopped him from this war ---short of Israel surrendering. 2. Your spin about disconnected pieces of land offered to Arafat is simply a repeating of the lies that the Palestinians like to tell to justify Arafat's refusal of the Barak-Clinton offers and decision to launch a terrorist war against Israel. 3.Israel has made peace with Arabs that wanted to make peace. They gave up the entire Sinai Penisula with its huge oil stores and got little in return from Egypt other than a cessation of hostilities. When King Hussein offered to make peace, the treaty was signed in record time. Once again, name the Palestinians who are willing to make compromises and agree to live peacefully in a Palestinian State next to a Jewish Israel? Who are they? What positions of power do they hold? We know the answer to my questions because there are no Palestinians willing to make peace with a Jewish Israel.

28. Great writer as fool
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem   (03.22.06)
Amos Oz has written a great masterpiece, his memoir, "A Tale of Love and Darkness." This however has not given him the wisdom to see that there has been a fundamental change in our situation here with the coming to power of 'Hamas' 'Hamas' is totally dedicated to the destruction of Israel. And it advocates the murder of Jews as means to this. Oz clings to his own misconception no matter what the evidence Reality presents- a fool, alas.
29. Amos Oz, the novelist ?
Gaston Boucher ,   The Netherlands   (03.22.06)
Stick to novels, Mr. Oz, politics goes way above your imagined competence. G.B.
