After WW1 a mandate was conferred on Great Britain by Allied powers over the territory formerly occupied by Turkey. It was called the Palestine Mandate and included the land on both sides of the Jordan River. This mandate was confirmed by the League of Nations in 1922. It also incorporated the Balfour Declaration of 1917 by which Great Britain committed itself to provide a homeland in Palestine for the Jewish People. Two months later Winston Churchill took all the land east of the Jordan River and inserted the Hashemite Abdullah as its emir. He did not free it from the Palestine mandate and the people living on the East Bank were in all respects Palestinians and travelled under Palestinian passports. The land west of Jordan was to be for the Jewish people. In May 1946 by fiat the English declared Transjordan an independent entity without international authority. It was called the Kingdom of Transjordan but now is called the Kingdom of Jordan. Since all of Jordan are really Palestinian people, they already have their own nation, given to them on May 14, 1946. Israel had to fight to keep the land that was designated to them which was to be ALL the land west of the Jordan River. This is true history.
