1. I'm sure Oral Torah allowed his actions
(04.03.06)
Which is why we need Rabbis to explain how lies aren't really lies.
2. Religion can also be a good reason
hiram ,   tel aviv   (04.03.06)
to become a crook....and to adopt the way of doing of the politicians, especially in Israel where everybody is always looking for perks they are not entitled to ....rings a bell or two ???
3. Very right and beautiful decision!
keren ,   sao paulo   (04.03.06)
If this Rabbi can not fullfil what is expected from him in such a post, like dignity, high level of ethic behavior, morality ,he certainly have to resign. If he doesn't,law must be aplied ,the same way it should for a common criminal. And ,I think ,he has being lucky to have the possibility for resigning;others would not have the same great chance!
4. Indict or Shut Up
Piranha ,   Chicago, IL   (04.03.06)
By what right can the Attorney General decline to prosecute but call for the resignation of a government official? If there is a case, then by all means he should prosecute. If not, then he should not be making executive decisions for other governmental agencies (or private companies, for that matter). Is there any branch of Israel's government that is NOT corrupt?
5. these rabbies are for nothing anyway...
(04.03.06)
they all don't even know who g-d realy is... ...i know! ;-b just kidding
6. Seculars and Erev Rav, Go Back Where You Came From
Israel ,   Israel   (04.03.06)
You are traitors on this land and of your religion to spit on the religious. Israel is not a business proposition, its G-d's land.
7. Boy, even the Chief Rabbi is a crook.
Richard ,   New York, USA   (04.03.06)
Every Jew needs to pack up and get out of there as fast as possible.
8. Pot calling the kettle black
moshe goldman ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.03.06)
If anyone is a liar and a dishonest, it is none other than mr. Menachem Menny Mazuz himself. He has illegally foisted upon us the likes of ehud Olmert as actting Prime Minister, he has lied about the agreements in hebron and Amona, he has protected criminal activities of Ariel Sharon, Omri Sharon, Gilad Sharon and many other politicians. Mr. Mazuz I call on you to resign!
9. Kadima stile
Yariv ,   Tel Aviv   (04.03.06)
I am sure that Ulra-orthodox endorsed Kadima for that move. Look, the Rav stayed in hotel for free because hotels need important people. Olmert never pays for hotel in Tel Aviv (or NY city for that matter). Olmert lives in the house for free, all paid by a guy from Virgin Islands. How do you like that deal. Sharon was given a farm and 6 mil by a guy from S. Africa. How do you compare this with a stay in hotel overnight? Get real!

actually israel was not created by the oltra orthodox but by the secular jews for all jews...
11. either you indict someone or you don't!
david ,   miami usa   (04.03.06)
i don't understand how an attorney general can find no evidence of wrongdoing and therefore not indict, but then turn around and say that he doesn't like him and he should resign. casting aspersion without evidence would get you a major league lawsuit in america and it should not be tolerated in israel either.

Has*em gave us this land, it is his property and by no means should we give it up. Even when they give land up, it has caused nothing positive, just more land for "Palo" to shoot/obtain missles and the loss of homes for people. People from the Gush and Amona have not been compensated with housing or schools, its horrible. We need to unite against the enemy not fight Hebrew vs Hebrew. I pray with all the energy within me that people will see out of the fog and see our history, how we have foughtl, how we have survived. We didnt survive by shaking the hand of Hamon or others, we won by G-d's help to destroy Amalek and Esau. Unite and we shall win this last war.
13. Mazuz is a disease
SK ,   USA   (04.03.06)
and a symptom of Israel's laughable non-democracy.
14. USA
ALAN ,   USA   (04.03.06)
HE COULD ALWAYS COME TO THE US AND GET A JOB IN A CONSERVATIVE SYNAGOGUE!
15. Abolish the "Chief Rabbinate"
Naftali Lavie ,   Toronto, Canada   (04.03.06)
Separate religion from the State. Let Rabbi Metzger pay his own bills.
16. how dare you to judge a rabbi?
gabrielle goldwater ,   geneva   (04.03.06)
This country is rotten. It forgets that it is supposed to be jewish, i.e to respect our rabbis, to listen to them, to ask for their guidance. After giving up a part of our sacred land, it is unavoidable that the next step would be to unroot the thora. Back to the sanhedrin! the only way to save this country from the leftist abomination.
17. just another possibility
keren ,   sao paulo   (04.03.06)
This government seems so dirty (sorry for the harsh word!) that it might be possible they are managing to draw the public opinion towards the Chief Rabbi, avoiding so too much attention on them. Another scape goat, maybe. As Yariv # 6 points out, there are more dirties in this government than about the Rabbis. But,even with this possibility, let me add that ,apparently, these Rabbis don't behave very cleanly anyway!
18. Mendy Mazuz...
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.03.06)
seems to think he's the state comptroller in addition to being the attorney general. His job is indict or not indict. The state comptroller is the one responsible for this kind of report. If Mendy is complaining about this in the absence of a crime being committed we can safely conclude its purely political. Then again, this shouldn't suprise us, as he thinks he's the Supreme Court as well. After all, he and he alone decided Olmert would be PM after Sharon's coma, and he alone has decided the government doesn't have to honor its promises to the settlers in Hebron. If Olmert has even half the intellects the right doubts he has then he'll reign the little despot in the AG's office in and tell him to shut up before he unilaterally rules the PM is subordinate to the AG and installs himself as king.
19. Menny Mazuz Resign in disgrace
Ben Hirschler ,   Israel   (04.04.06)
Mazuz is the epitomy of corruption and goes after honest citizens while letting the criminals party.Sharon should have been declared permanently incapacitated immediatly after his second stroke and elections clled then. Sharon was elected as head of the Likus not Kadima thus Netanyahu should have been acting Prime Minister. Mazuz where is the indictment of Hanegbi? Why have you sheilded the savage sadistic police who illegally used brutality on the citizens of Amona? Mazuz are you taking action against Rabbi Metzger to smoke screen yor illegal activities?
