1. Haredi politics
Hilda ,   USA   (04.21.06)
I se the political protitutes are at it again.
2. child allowance
peter ,   amsterdam, NL   (04.21.06)
Of the cutbacks that Bibi instigated as finance minister the child allowance one is one of the few in which he was right. Having children is your own responsibility, if a premium has to put on it than only for the first two.
3. The future of Israel
Isaac ,   Hous, USA   (04.21.06)
With out more youth, with a fire for the bedrock of Jewish culture/religion, Israel will be demographically destabilized by non-Jews and non-Jews adamantly against the principles of Israel, Zionism, Jewish renewal. Children are parents responsibility. Still producing a growing population is the responsibility of the government. The Haredi/traditional/orthodox seem to be the states' best tool.
4. And removing people from their homes isnt costly?
(04.21.06)
Its going to cost billions and billions of dollars removing people, building new houses, payments and money. You think this is costly, look what you lefties have done, you will bring on a depression.
5. Large families exacerbate poverty, reliance
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (04.21.06)
Perhaps you've heard the story of the Orthodox father leading six children behind him onto the bus. The driver tells him he should have left half his kids at home. The man responds, " I did. This is the other half." Humor aside, poverty is exacerbated by large family size, and it doesn't affect only the ultra Orthodox. Bedouins and Arabs also tend to have larger families, and those large families tend to be poor. But reliance on family allowances to subsidize that large family only perpetuates that poverty into the next generation. UTJ is not needed for a coalition, and certainly not at any price. The government, through the reduction in family allowances, is sending an economic signal that large families are to be discouraged. It's time for some to get the message.
6. Why not have allowances on UP to 3 children?
David Landman ,   Boston, USA   (04.21.06)
This helps increase the population and a fair compromise for those who have many children and those who dont. Personally, I think all Jews should have any many children as they can afford to love. Its a mitzvah! The state shouldnt fund them though.
7. POSSIBLE SOLUTION
JEW ,   JERUSALEM ISRAEL   (04.22.06)
I AM against these parties joining government and enabling Olmert's destructive plans but if we will cancel the child allowance reform then we can pull the money from the family allowances given to arabs We no longer need to support the 5th column of israel. It is insanity. We help finance our own destruction.
8. self-destruction
dave ,   herzliya   (04.22.06)
It's awful, we're funding the two least desirable groups in society, Haredim and Arabs to keep having ridiculous amounts of kids. these kids will also just be on welfare, and produce more and more arabs and haredim. who will also be on welfare.......
9. child allowance
jason white ,   afula,israel   (04.22.06)
Let us go back to how it originally was given. It went to families of soldiers. People who gave to the state should receive something from the state. What about the father of knafo's children? How about him paying for his kids. I do not want to pay for others' children.
10. Jewish Children
Shlomo Silverstein ,   Ma'ale Adumim   (04.23.06)
Before the Holocaust there were some 18 million Jews worldwide. Today, due to mass assimilation (by definition by secular Jews) there are bearly 12 million Jews left in the world. Sixty years on we still have six million Jews missing that should have been alive today. When will Charedim stop having so many children? When we have made up the 1.5 million children who were murdered in the Holocaust. If you secular Jews living selfish lifes are not prepared to contribute to our mass losses then the least you can do is finacially aid those Jews who are willing to take on the resposibilty of rasing the next generation who will safeguard the survival of the Jewish people and the demographic balance in Israel. Those that hate Charedim and compare them to Arabs, (whose Arabs who wish to destroy the Jewish people) are self hating Jews. Why are you so surprised when your children marry goyim? Are you part of the Jewish people or not? If so, be prepared to contribute either physically or finacially to Jewish children's welfare, educationa and happiness. The next time you see happy smiling Chareidi kids, bless them for they will safeguard your future.

Well said. you could also mention that it is largely the secular thatproduced 1 million yordim that have even less Jewish ties than American Reform and intermarry even faster.
12. Spend a lot on the kids
Steve ,   USA   (04.24.06)
B"H ... because that will prevent money from being on the table for fruitless rippings of homes and smashings of premises. This is a great year to raise minimum wage, provide for the elderly, feed the kids, provide for education.... ...and if there is no money left over to destroy Jewish lives that are well founded in honest work, great! Cancel the destructive plans and do not feel bad about giving the extra charity! A little extra charity could go a long way to restore sanity here!
13. #10 - they will not safeguard israel's future
yitzchak silver ,   ma'ale adumim,ISRAEL   (04.24.06)
1) nice thought - but it has to be voluntary 2) chareidim will not safeguard the future of Israel as they range from non-zionist to the rabid israel hating extremists - who's ideological adgenda is painfully - but truthfully little different than Hamas
14. Chareidim are not anti Israel
Shlomo Silverstein ,   Ma'ale Adumim   (04.24.06)
Dear fellow Ma'aeh Adumim resident, Yitzchak. I could not let your comments past without replying. I wonder how many Chareidim you have spoken to? Your view is completely false. A tiny minority of Chareidim are anti-Zionist. In fact, a far greater percentage of secular jews are anti-Zionist. Chareidim do not like the word Zionism because the Zionist movement from its very begining sought not only to establish a national homeland for Jews in Israel but to also to destroy Torah and religious life as they saw this as going against the "New Jew" philosophy. Consequently most but not all Rabbis were against the Zionist movement because it was anti-religious. However, today, the vast majority of chareidim are very greatful for the state of Israel. There have never been so many Jews learning Torah and liviing a Torah way of life in Israel for 2,000 years. Israeli Chareidim are very proud of where they live and are the greatest aliyah shlichim there are. I suggest you pick up a copy of Mishpacha magazine in English. This Chareidi magazine has articles defending Israel, articles pushing for aliyah, articles about brave religious soldiers serving in the IDF, successful Israeli companies....In fact, it's more pro-Israel than most secular publications. No, Chareidim do not like the word Zionism but they are the biggest Zionists in Israel.

Very true. Many of the fundamentalist Moslems vote for Shas, because concerning issues like feeding childen whose parents reproduce like demented bunny rabbits, making it harder for women to control their own bodies, and discriminating against gays they believe the same thing.

A very good point. Clothing can be handed down, children can share rooms. As for food, don't have more kids than you can feed. It's this kind of reproduction that results in the shamefully high poverty rates in Israel. And don't tell me it's about increasing the no. of Jews in Israel and the world. Poor, hungry, and citizens who don't have an education that will prevent further poverty and hunger are nothing to be proud of.
