We in the USA have enough nukes to wipe out the planet 10 times over. The Russians still possess over 50,000 nuclear warheads. France, Britain, China, Pakistan and India, all have thousands (combined) of missiles, planes and artillery shells, capable of low and high fusion explosions. So, while the US and Russia bask in the relative safety knowing their MAD policies have deterred each others/Chinese non-conventional attacks, Israel is expected to behave like "Good Christians". In other words, "Turn the other cheek". This is, similar to pre-WW2 thinking. Arab-Muslim oil, is more important than a bunch of "Stiff-necked Jews". We Jews are miniscule, while the Muslim world has over 1.4b and growing. How can 5.2m Hebrews compare to 300m Arabs in importance. Unfortunately, this is reality. Bottom line: Israel's threat of MAD, is the only answer and assurance of it's survival. As Israel goes, so goes Diaspora Jewry.

So..why does Iran care about Israel? Iran has no territorial ambition like 30s Germany. Historically Iran and Israel have had good relations (take Cyrus for example). Iran has no desire for war after the conflict with Iraq and is not stupid regarding the capabilities of Israel's nuclear arsenal. But it does know that the world is scared, and is milking this fright for all it is worth so that it can gain in terms of trade etc. If we are scared enough, then we have no other option but give them something in return for abandoning nuclear technology.
