Soldiers are the last people who want war.They are the ones to pay the price in lives and limbs.However a man who is a soldier would never invite his enemies to his very doorstep. A real soldier would never arm the enemies of his people.Smith picked a poor example. He should have gone to one of the memorials to fallen soldiers. The people who died defending our country.

He and Pinket-Smith have a popular following. Their support, kind words in Israel, and his interest in peace and the Arab-Israeli conflict is appreciated. It means he can look beyond his hollywood world to larger issues.

I respect that Rabin was willing to take a gamble on a hope for a better future for his people. That doesn't mean the gamble was a good one, or that he was right philosophically or pragmatically. His gamble has been amply demonstrated to be wrong-headed. Brave, but wrong. The left would do well to admire him for his noble effort while admitting the horrible situation that gamble led us to. Then we could move forward, together, to a real solution.
