That sucks

Each person who lives in Israel in Poverty and was subject to the Shoah should receive compensation. It should be distributed evenly and equitably to ALL survivors, not only those who's criteria meet "German standards". The Germans should not be allowed to set any standards regarding the survivors , and I am surprised the Committee allows this.

Why is it that someone who has gone through such hell once, should have to beg for something that should have been provided in the first place?? Is it not enough that these survivors have been through something that no one of this generation has any idea of? They should be treated as royalty, the last of a generation to personally witness the horrors and evil of a war whose likes will hopefully never be seen again. Germany and Israel, you do no better than the nazi's by allowing your hero's to die in shame because someone in a governmental position cant see farther than 5 minutes in front of his face! Shame on you.
4. We should all give
(04.25.06)
Is there a charitable organization that help support these victims. This is terrible.
5. Survivors waiting for compensation
charles Wizenberg ,   New- York USA   (04.25.06)
WHO decides WHO is entitled and by what criterias?Like all those organisations they discriminate in order to profit themselves and keep the money to prolong their jobs. An open inquiry is over due as all who are entitled and in dire need are dying every day.

Larry ,   San Bernardino, CA   (04.25.06)
How long has it taken to return the artwork and the Swiss bank accounts? The world doesn't care and the Germans laugh and say: 'Not my generation!' Never Forget has already been forgotten. It is the shame of the world.
7. They deserve more than compensation!!!
Meghen ,   Goose Creek, USA   (04.25.06)
I think if anyone should get compensated for anything it should the survivors of the holocaust. They were put through much worse than the slaves of the civil war or Japenese americans who put into camps. They starved to death, beaten, shot, burned to death, and thrown into piles like they were nothing. They shouldn't be the ones homeless in the streets!!! The government should be paying for all of their living expenses, PERIOD!!!

What happened to all the wealth the Nazis took from the Jews? All the money, art, heirlooms, jewelry... All these 1,915 survivors are asking for is $4 million, which averages out to $2100 per person. So many of the Jews who suffered were wealthy, self-made business owners, to whom $2100 would seem a pittance. All Holocaust survivors suffered immeasurable pain, and yet if they have managed to regain their strength and feel somewhat back to normal physically, they receive no compensation. It's unthinkable.
9. Organization
Jessica ,   Ohio   (04.25.06)
I was wondering as well...I don't have much, but it has been laid upon my heart to do what I can...does anyone know if there is somewhere we can send a contribution to the survivors who are living in poverty?
10. Poor Holocaust Survivors
Erin ,   KANSAS USA   (04.25.06)
Why isn't the "Israeli" government helping their own elderly people? I mean, I know why the US doesn't, but you'd think "Israel" would take care of their elderly a bit better.
11. Holocaust survvivors
William E. Lyman ,   Ottumwa, Iowa USA   (04.25.06)
I am appalled that at this point in history that all holocaust survivors are not being taken care of by the World Community. This Holocaust was not just a "German" problem, it is and was a "Sin" of many nations religions and governments that need to be atoned for--and recompenced for!! If there is anything I can do as an American Jew pleaase let me know. My e-mail is listed above!!! Wm Evan Lyman PO Box 848 Ottumwa, Iowa 52501

If these peolpe can't live a decent life above the poverty level they should all threaten to move back to Germany with their entire families, no onw ould deport them. Everyone poor there gets aid and no one is truly poor in Germany. If they have a social system for their own people they should be able to cover the people who they so harmed.
13. Sad
Catherine ,   Rockville, MD, USA   (04.25.06)
The "world community" is not going to step up because much of the world is taught that the holocaust didn't even take place. It's truly the shame of the Germans and they should repay the wealth they stole.
14. Donation

Yes is there an organization. I don't have much but I would like to send money to a fund to help these people
15. Holocaust survivors

Is there any where I can donate money that will go directly to these survivors that are still suffering and that are not getting help from anyone? Please let me know

Heather Schoenrock ,   Mount Holly, NJ   (04.25.06)
I agree they deserve more, but your comment on how others were treated--especially Slaves of the Civil War--is ignorant and offensive. I would suggest you research further before making such a statement. If Nuremburg taught us anything, it should be that one life is valuable!
17. Their wealthy relatives should help
hr ,   ny   (04.25.06)
60 years later and they are now poor. Their wealthy relatives should help. If others will give they will always cry poor even with money in the bank.
18. Holocaust Surviors
DH ,   Houston, TX   (04.25.06)
This seems like this is an issue that Israel needs to take up with who ever is running the fund. OR, Israel could subsize the victims lives. The powers that be in Germany now should not have to bear the brunt of anger for a crime that was perpetrated by their great grandfathers.
19. Jupiter
Laurie Roberts-Powel ,   England   (04.25.06)
I was quickly glancing at the various feed back regarding the Holocaust when I noticed your last name "Jupiter". I am from a Jewish family and my mother's maiden name is Jupiter, originally from NY. Perhaps we are related?
20. holocaust survivors compensation
Joana ,   New York   (04.25.06)
The U.S. has been subsidizing the State of Israel since it's birth. It is time to stop . The state of Israel should treat it's citizen's correctly without having them beg from the world. What a shame on Israel.
21. holocaust survivors/surviving
Linda Flickinger ,   Lynnwood, WA USA   (04.25.06)
I am horrified that these very special people would not be taken care of with tenderness/compassion/honor in such a place as Israel. I am having trouble actually believing that Israel would allow this to exist.
22. Holocaust Survivors
Lorna ,   United States   (04.25.06)
Since time began, atrocities have been committed worldwide by all cultures, and sadly there are always victims left behind. And regardless of what was suffered, I find it difficult after the fact to point the finger at any one group to say it is their responsibility to correct what needs to be fixed. This isn't a perfect world and you can’t go back and undo what has happened by providing monetary compensation. Instead of pleading for the cause of any particular group that has suffered, atrocity victims should receive what anyone else in their economic situation should receive. Again, sadly, not all governments see the need for taking care of their elderly and poor, so what is the answer?
23. holocaust reparations
jacob ,   houston   (04.25.06)
true people should not be held accountable for crimes done by forbearers; but 1 man did not commit those crimes, it was done by an entire nation of which happened to have caused global conflict not once but twice w/in 1 generation; yes, Israel should provide for survivors in need, however, i dont see why Germany should be the one to decide the criteria of who gets what & when; an anrangment was made & accepted & should be kept & resolved ASAP, NOT tied up in "legalitic limbo" until all parties envolved are no longer "relevant" because they are no longer alive thus lessening the amount of compensation having to be paid out
24. Holocaust Survivors' Welfare Fund
Ashley Stephenson ,   Raleigh, NC USA   (04.26.06)
I read this text in a Yahoo article today and am wondering if it would be a trustworthy org for sending a donation? "An organization called the Holocaust Survivors' Welfare Fund distributes government aid for medical costs, but its budget in recent years has not grown in proportion to the need. Less than 10 percent of the fund's annual $35 million budget comes from the government. Eighty-five percent of the fund's money comes from a New-York based Claims Conference, which is funded, in turn, by Germany and Austria." Anyone know if this is a good org. to send a donation?
25. Never Again...to us!
Adam Rein ,   Lynwood, NJ   (04.26.06)
I lost my faith in humanity when the Jews let the holocaust in Serbia and Croatia happen. They could have stepped in for the sake of humanity, but didn't. They watched, just as the world watched Germany. Now in Darfur, will Israel act? Or do they mean "Never Agin" only if it pertains to them?
26. Still Surviving The Holocaust
William ,   Los Angeles   (04.26.06)
I would allow a holocaust victim to live with me just to feel the pain and grief that they have suffered in their lives, we think we have it so bad. I studied Jewish history, visited Eastern Europe and met many survivors, this is just another piece of the holocaust torment that will continue until they go to their resting place. A tragedy.
27. let steven speilberg donate
mp ,   usa   (04.26.06)
Why doesn't Steven Speilberg donated all the $$ he made off the movie Schindlers List to the holocost survivors? I'm sure 20 million dollars spread between 90,000 survivors would just about do the trick ...
28. I am deeply saddened and appalled
Mz Ruth T ,   Reno, NV   (04.26.06)
That those who were so horribly, so evilly, tortured in the Concentration Camps of Nazi Germany and occupied countries - while "Western Tradition" countries like the US pretended not to see or know yet closed immigration to our country by anyone with Jewish blood in the 30s - should still be suffering. (we also did not allow homosexuals or gypsies into the US at that time - also victims of the Nazi genocide) EVERYONE - I strongly recommend a few hours spent online at the "Museum of Tolerance" or if possible a visit there in LA... and then tell others - It HAPPENED - and is in a way still happening.. Maybe a movement to have these people sue for the return of all money and property taken from their families who did not survive the gas chambers or brutality of the camps? That would come to much more then the 2K+ they are asking for each... especially if adding interest accrued... on a side note - Israel is not the only nation to allow their elderly or disabled to go without basic needs for life plus the luxury of a tv or cab ride - food, housing, medical, other services for seniors, disabled HERE in the US have had funding cut so much in the past 4 yrs that many here truly suffer...I know, I am a senior and I am disabled - I have no medical - and eat foods that are not nutritious due to less than poverty level income... but I do not have memories of the horrors of the camps for which I thank my God... just deep love and concern for those who do and their families ...
29. Shame on Germany
Mark ,   Rock Island Illinois   (04.26.06)
The German government and people should be paying damages to the Holocaust survivors. They caused the problem and they have plenty of money. It is a good thing people are willing to donate money to these people but its the Germans who should foot the bill.
30. Spielberg does not donate the money because
Mz RuthT ,   Reno, NV   (04.26.06)
He did and does donate to the survivors - at least the ones who worked for or are family of workers of the real Schindler - didn't you see the ending? btw - 20 million divided by 90000 would net each person about $222 - that is two hundred twenty-two dollars... big help taking a deserving person out of poverty huh?
