1. what are these gays trying to prove?
keren ,   sao paulo   (05.04.06)
Does a woman need to go to streets partying to show everybody she is a woman? Does a man need to do the same? If these gays would be tranquils with their conditition ,they would´t need to do such ridiculous and outraging demonstrations. No decent place in the world is fit to it,much, much less Jerusalem!
2. Why not make the parade in Tel Aviv?
AK   (05.04.06)
I hope those in favor of parade realize that should Muslims achieve majority or any kind of control, all parade s will be gone
3. Jerusalem doesn't want 'Good As You' parades - full stop !
michael ,   tel aviv   (05.05.06)
4. No One Owes The Gay Community A Parade in Jerusalem
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (05.05.06)
If the mayor of Jerusalem can't block the gay parade in Israel's capital, he should call it a day and retire. Opining about it won't do a darn thing. Action is what is needed. Whatever it takes. Once again the spurious charges of racism and discrimination are being bandied about. Boo hoo. Let them howl. Just don't let Jerusalem be sucked into such a hedonistic spectacle. I don't care what consenting adults do in their own bedrooms. However, a moral red line is crossed when Jerusalem becomes an open bedroom for their spectacle.
5. IS JERUSALEM A HOLY CITY?
bill handel ,   brooklyn, usa   (05.05.06)
Israel claims the Jerusalem does not need to be internationalized, because they are taking care of all the religious places. If they they allow such provocations and desecrations, then they are obviously liars, and the UN should take over the City.
6. #5 You think thats helpful, you think thats smart
(05.05.06)
Did the UN protect the Egyptian borders before the 67 war, have they ever done anything other than bicker. They are horrible and you are self destructive to spew your poision over people.
7. we are trying to prove
nathan ,   hoboken, nj   (05.05.06)
that we are the same as anyone else, entitled to the same everything as everyone else. Ahavat Yisrael doesnt say, well love this one and that one but not this one. yes I know it is more complex that that, but not more complex than the demographic that notion refers to. disregard for the other is a deeply destructuve force that is why it is so derided.
8. E Jerusalem
Ron   (05.05.06)
U guys are dreamig to set it in E Jruslaem, even U want to sell ur garbage people to the Palestinians. If only one stabbed in Tel-aviv, I think the whole punch of them might be hurt if they dare to be there!!!!!
9. Jerusalem gayness
Homo Meod ,   Ness Tziona   (05.05.06)
Jerusalem's such a great place to live and to be gay. I am forever thankful to hashem and all the wonderful people in the world that makes Jerusalem an amazing city and one where gay people are always welcome, no matter what.
10. Gay Pride should be held in Jerusalem
sk ,   USA   (05.05.06)
I am a bit disappointed in the Talkbacks so far (#1-5), even including the usually sensible Adina. So, I will quote: "Shas representative Yair Lari said: 'It seems there will be a majority to hold the parade in east Jerusalem and we will see what they will do to them.'" Ah yes, our friends in Shas, who have just joined Merlot's government and who are NOT Zionists, unlike the so-called "settlers." Shas, which advocates for haredi draft dodging on the new theory that Jews needn't fight for the Jewish state. Shas's Lari recommends, apparently, that gay Jews be killed by Moslems. How about the Mayor: "Lupolianski jokingly told an ultra-Orthodox council member as he walked near Netanel, an open homosexual, to "be wary of him as you pass there." The remark drew laughter from most council members." Oh yes, I've heard that a black hat, scraggly beard, and bad complexion are real turn-ons. Who could resist? I don't think I have to prove my right-wing credentials here. The fact is, though, that freedom of speech and freedom of assembly cannot be waived because some people don't like what is being said. Just as it is an outrage that Jews cannot pray on the Temple Mount because Moslems object, so, too, it is an outrage that gay Jews cannot engage in political actions in Jerusalem. I used to think that parades in general should be held in places like Tel Aviv or Haifa. But given the exchanges quoted in this news article (notice how the leftist media have no trouble sourcing SOME stories), I say that this is exactly the time for infuriating certain viciously homophobic politicos.
11. #7 If you want to be respected, you have to respect others!!
(05.05.06)
and prancing around in Jerusalem will NEVER EVER EVER give you ANY respect, you will only get more and more hated.
12.  Sodom
RPM ,   Chehalis, US   (05.05.06)
The two cities in ancient history are prime examples of why you don't want a homosexual parade. And, by the way, that is nothing to be proud of !!
13. no more please
ian ,   LIMA, peru   (05.05.06)
one of that few times i have to agree with an ultra-orthodox, jerusalem is sacred, sacred not only us the jews but to also to other monotheistic faiths. These should be an oportunity to call all religious faiths together to give the holy city the respect that should deserve!
14.  what are these gays trying to prove?
Bill ,   Yonkers, NY   (05.05.06)
They are standing up to discrimination. That is what they are trying to prove! Imagine being shunned by your family, your house of worship, friends, etc. All because you are born with a homosexual orientation. Gays must have equal rights in all spheres including being able to walk down the street holding hands just as heterosexuals are. If you are offended too bad.. you have no right to trample on others' rights
15. . No One Owes The Gay Community A Parade in Jerusalem
Bill ,   Yonkers, NY   (05.05.06)
Gay people have a right to free speech and should have equal rights in ALL spheres. Being gay is like being left handed... a certain percent of people are born with a brain structure that orients them to something not the norm. It is nothing to shield yourself from .. It is not "contageous".
16. IS JERUSALEM A HOLY CITY?
Bill ,   Yonkers, NY   (05.05.06)
Gay people are of equal worth in the eyes of God. They are not desecrating any city by marching. There may be individuals who act obnoxious but gays excercising free speech is not in an of itself an act of desecration as you call it. I think it is more desecrating to God to demean gay people and treat them like dirt to be ostracized as you advocate
17. Israel as a democracy
John ,   Jerusalem   (05.05.06)
If the gay community wishes to hold a peaceful march in any city, then it is the responsibility of the democratic government to allow it. Democracy means allowing for the free speech and demonstration even of people with a differing opinion than your own.
18. Message from ancient time
Brod ,   Marshall, USA   (05.05.06)
Remember Sodom and Gomorrah. God sent his Angels to save Lot and his family.
19. Jonathan and David
yehuda halevi   (05.05.06)
let the city of David come out as a place where all peoples come to worship the one god in their own way..l'chu v'naleh el har bet hashem! Gays have lived as Jews, suffered as Jews and died in our wars and in kiddush hashem. those who don't like it can burn their trash recepticles.
20. Sodom and Gomorrah
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (05.05.06)
Why not hold the parade there?
21. take your parade to Ramallah Jrnin or kalkiliya
Moish ,   Jerusalem   (05.05.06)
22. # 7
yakov shani ,   afula   (05.05.06)
No Nathan, you are not the same as everybody else. Before you jump at me please let me explain. This is a physical biological fact and not my opinion. I have exactly ZERO against you and I wish you no harm or degredation in any way whatsoever. There is no need for you or any other group for that matter to hold parades in order to "prove" something, there is nothing to prove and the only thing that your parades accomplish is to get everybody annoyed and upset and promote sectorial strife, in Jerusalem in particular. In short an unnecessary public disturbance.
23. Its sad that gays want to be so insensitive and do a march
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (05.05.06)
in the most religious area when they want people to be sensitive to them. What is legal to do, it not necessarily the most productive. Putting your worst face in the face of the Orthodox will not win any friends or positively influence them to any form of tolerance. Its a no win for anyone and that is sad when you consider the confrontation that will occur.
24. reply to Bunnie (#23)
sk ,   USA   (05.05.06)
Well, Bunnie, one thing it will do is confront the nasty homohatred of some Jews head on, in the streets. Apparently, Israel is alsmost as anti-gay as it is anti-settler. The key point of this kind of an action is to be visibile. Where better than in J?
25. to # 12
RW ,   Dallas, Texas   (05.05.06)
G-d created gays too, didn't he? We ARE proud because we recognize we ARE from G-d! Chhalis, Washington, I presume? Ha! Go pray for your OWN soul!
26. to # 20
RW ,   Dallas, US   (05.05.06)
Obviously, since you reside in Southpark, Colorado, and the air is so thin there, that MUST be the reason behind your really ignorant statement!!
27. East jerusalem
jew ,   jerusalem   (05.05.06)
I think it is only fair to hold a gay paarde in east jerusalem, after Tel-Aviv and Jewish West-Jerusalem had the honor to host it in the past. Palestinian Jerusalemites should no be deprived of this festival of peace, tolerance and love. Also the the inhabitants of Jenin would certainly be happy to host a gay parade. The internatinal one will be held in mekka, as Rome already hosted. Be fair, honest, not racist and tolerant. Otherwise do Tshuva!
28. #17, If Israel is a democracy
Avner ,   Jerusalem   (05.05.06)
then please allow the people of Jerusalem to decide if they want this to take place in their city. Let's see how far you accept Jerusalem's right to decide!
29. What G-d says about this
Stan Goodenough ,   Jerusalem   (05.05.06)
The G-d of Israel calls homosexualtiy an "abomination" - which means it is stench in His nostrils. He calls Himself the G-d of Jerusalem and Jerusalem His holy city. Certainly He does not want His city filled with the stench of homosexuality and lesbianism. He has warned those who pratice these things that they will be cut off from their people. "Fear of the L-RD is the beginning of wisdom," wrote Solomon. These people who do not fear G-d and obey His Word are, by Sol's definitionthen - foolish.
30. #29
tasc   (05.05.06)
So, if you so certain if god's words and thought, why don' t you go straight to him and spend some time there? The earth is obviously too small for you.
