1. Plocker is talking almost utter nonsense
Kate ,   London   (05.10.06)
"The transfer of control from the Wertheimer to the Buffet families will not create any new jobs in Israel. The company's ability to produce and its potential exports have not increase" Wrong for a whole range of reasons, including: 1) There are very many overseas companies who will not do business with Israelis for ideological and security reasons. Such restrictions will not apply to a corporation owned by the mighty Berkshire Hathaway. Faster growth is therefore far more likely and as a consequence more jobs will be created in Israel. 2) This purchase by Buffet, a business leader who is almost without equal (at least in term of perceptions), is a tremendous vote of confidence in the Israeli economy, and will lead to many other world-class businesses investing in Israel. I am also tempted to deal with the farrago of nonsense about foreign investments in the United States (the US will need to take in almost $1 trillion this year), but I'll leave it to someone else to shoot Plocker down as I have better things to do. I would like to assure Mr. Plocker though that if Israel were to disappear tomorrow, the impact on the world economy, except in so far as security matters are concerned, would be as near zero as one could get. Within the context of business, Israel needs the world infinitely more than the world needs Israel.
2. Plocker ? Huh?
Eric ,   Bet Shemesh   (05.10.06)
What is this guy talking about? The transfer of ISCAR to Buffet frees up the capital that was locked up in the asset, and now Wertheimer says he will invest that capital in new businesses. Additionally, Buffets word is "gold" and if he says that no one will lose a job, then no one will lose a job. This particular case looks like a win-win. It's true that some wealthy Israeli's are buying shopping centers in Eastern Europe and even the Plaza Hotel in NY, but that just means that our investment community is building a diversified portfolio, and that's not a bad thing either.
3. Plocher doesn't get it
Ron ,   LA   (05.11.06)
Israeli coffers get 1 billion from dis deal, the rest Stef will invest in Galilee. This sale also boosts confidence in Israeli economy, therefore more investments and money. There are many more benefits, but let’s leave this at that
4. As usual, Plocker has it 100% WRONG.
Adam Adamati ,   Israel   (05.11.06)
Why does ynet let him in the door? I need a job and I can do a better job .
5. It is like comparing apples to oranges
Inyaki ,   Bilbao, Basque   (05.11.06)
What a very stupid thing to say. It is like to ask, ¿ do we need more constructors, engineers or architects? Even Kate of London understands this...( sorry, Kate). Inyaki, from very "rural" Bilbao, the eternal capital of the basques.
6. confused
Dave ,   Prague   (05.11.06)
Well, let's make it easier to understand for Mr. Plocker: If the owner of Iscar was an U.S. investor and Mr. Buffet just gave him/her the $4b. - the company stays in Israel, money in America. Warren Buffet brought money to Israel and Mr. Wertheimer will invest it there (at least part of it), but he didn't take the factory, machines, premises etc. to Omaha. Simple, isn't it :) ?
7. A response to Inyaki of Bilbao
Kate ,   London   (05.11.06)
Inyaki writes: "Even Kate of London understands this. " Even Kate with her law degree, MBA and membership of a family which controls one of the UK's leading companies. Then again, that kind of ignorance and bigotry is exactly what we all have come to expect from Inyaki.
8. Kate, where is your sense of humor?
Inyaki ,   Bilbao, Basque   (05.11.06)
Come on Kate, for your low degree, I have a Ph.D, for your MBA I have- a Chair ( Professorship) in one of the 3 leading UK Universities, and for your family membership... I am THE head of one of the most influential families in... won't say which country ( so that people will not figure me out). I will not respond to your insulting last paragraph. Just to advise you that my remark comes as an answer to your old remark about knitting in the Basque country. The things on Internet are never the way they look, but there is no reason to insult the basques. She ihie lach Sof Shavua naiim. Inyaki the "ignorant" basque. PS. I have no doubt that you have an MBA, it transcends from the way you write.
9. INTEL FOUNDER IS HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR
DEBRA ,   USA   (05.12.06)
THE FOUNDER OF INTEL IS A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR. I THINK HE WOULD FEEL CLOSE TO ISRAEL AND BUILD AND CREATE JOBS THERE.
