because they were so stubborn in the past, as well as the present, those in opposition to them are now being stubborn toward them in return. palestinians didn't envision a time when they would be in a situation of weakness and internationally politically isolated, but here we are. and, as expected, they complian. israel and the rest of the world learned the lesson of forced negotations with the palestinians, so especially now that the palestinian government is openly and unashamedly terror promoters there is nothing to be gained in any way by conceding to the europeans and russia, especially when they are wrong in regard to their own policies vis a vis terror. america can absorb and negotiate the erosion of prominence in the region - look at europe and russia to see how such an erosion isn't necessary fatal, or even that damaging. just because europe and russia see fit to compromise on their principles doesn't mean america and israel have to do likewise.

American aid is not a God given right for anybody, including Israel. Has fas as I can see the main point here is that we should give Hamas money because if we don't we'll lose influence with Hamas when other countries do. I can tell you that there isn't an American alive outside of Washington who is bothered one bit by that. Perhaps is Israel took the US position instead of being caught up in Talmudic analysis of Hamas statements the whole situation might change for the better.

I think it is clear that when you have a terror group leading a people, it creates instability for the whole region. We have already seen Hamas try to smuggle weapons into Jordan. They are receiving a lot of their arms from Egypt, which is a headache for that gov't to deal with. I am sure there are other reasons, but the general insatability is what worries most people.
