1. why is this antisemitic?
Briton ,   London   (05.14.06)
It compares Israel's treatment of the Palestinians with our own treatment at the hands of the Nazis. This is of course deplorable rubbish. But it isn't antisemitic. It's attacking Israel's policies, not "jews" in general. I thoroughly disagree with their viewpoint but the way we Jews throw around the term "antisemite" is disturbing and counterproductive.
2. Free speech, anyone!!
Jasmine ,   planetearth   (05.14.06)
first , jews should stop being so sensetive, stop victimizing .... second, if we are to keep ranting about free speech all the time, we should at least repsect that it should be free for everyone!!! sorry, jews are not an exception all the damn time... palestinians, arabs are being portrayed as terrorsits in many jewish, foreign papers...( BY THE WAY, PALESTINIANS ARE SEMITIC TOO), its absurd that the word anti-semtic is now refers only to jews...
3. facts
human   (05.14.06)
It is the same, There are Palestinian villages in which they have to wait hours for the Israeli soldiers to open gates for them to enter to their schools. sometimes the gates is not opend. (Jbarah, Azzon Atmeh) both in West bank.
4. A response to Briton from London
Kate ,   London   (05.14.06)
"But it isn't antisemitic. It's attacking Israel's policies, not "jews" in general." That's very surprising given you claim to be Jewish, but Israel is the Jewish state. That is exactly what the new anti-Semtism is all about - saying about Israel (the collective Jew) what they no longer can say about the individual Jew. The cartoon is blatantly ant-Semitic, doubly offensive when one remembers Italy's part in the Holocaust. "the way we Jews throw around the term "antisemite" is disturbing and counterproductive." This kind of attitude is typical of the ugly "new" Europe where expressions of even the most virulent anti-Semitism are ignored and complaints about anti-Semitism are mocked and derided. The reality is that the Nazis could never have achieved what they did without the almost complete and willing collaboration of most of Europe - occupied and "neutrals" alike. Those nations were overjoyed that they had not just got rid of their Jewish citizens but had also obtained all their property at no cost. And Britain which fought a war in spite of and not because of the Jews was no different. Indeed, she effectively collaborated in the Holocaust via numerous mechanisms including the 1939 White Paper, her immigration policy and her failure to lift a finger to assist the drowning Jews of Europe. And Europe today is no different. Attacks on Jews have become commonplace, London has an openly anti-Semitic mayor, Israel and the Jewish people are accused of being every kind of problem in the world, in the UK charges about Jewish conspiracies abound in the media. You know, it's a very uncomfortable thing to have to grow up in a country like the UK knowing beyond question that my grandparents would have been murdered by their fellow British citizens had the Nazis invaded in 1940.

Notice that the cartoon "stirred a row" among civilized people - not caused worldwide rioting as among others who will remain anonymous.
6. Briton
Ehud   (05.14.06)
Why antisemitic? Because it is an old antisemitic tradition to charge the Jews with crimes comitted against them. It either gives retrospective justification for these crimes, or downplays them
7. To Jasmine (from Planet Earth?)
Ehud   (05.14.06)
Not the Arabs are being portrayed as terrorists, only the terrorists who are Arab. The word "antisemitic" is a misnomer, but during the 150 years of its use, it has defined the ideology of hate and the crimes against Jews. You say antisemitic, and everyone (except you) knows what is meant. Hitler intended to exterminate the Jews, not "all Semites" (as you may recall, he was quite friendly with Hadj Amin el Husseini. To try to jump on the semantic bandwaggon is absurd.
8. Facts
Ehud   (05.14.06)
Waiting hours - bas as it may be - is not the same as getting exterminated. By the way, what about the wall - built by the EU on Spanish-occupied Marocco - which prevents famishing and politically persecuted African from seeking rightfully asylum. Italy is part of the EU last time I checked.

It is the same. There are Roads on which cars carying families are ambushed, and a few Palestinian Militants approach the car and execute a mother and her four adolescent doughters. Why, one might ask? well, they are settlers. Theis crime was to settle among these savages. You want to resisit the occupation? Fight soldiers. not Mothers with children. You sick F**ks. And one more thing, you ignorant brat. Waiting hours for soldiers to open the gate is not the same as digging hours your grave, right before you and your family are executed or gassed to death. Get a grip on yourself. or a new perspective while you're at it. Ant corelation between israel's occupation and the holocaust is pure evil and is a disrespect of the millions that parished.
11. So what now...
Talula Belle ,   Israel   (05.14.06)
do we go out and burn the Italian embassy? Do we cause havoc and chaos all around the world? Do we stop eating pasta? No, we should just ignore the sad and pathetic attempt of someone who is clearly desperate to catapult their way into social splendor. Yes, it is painful to see this, but I think we should rise above it. It will not be the first and for sure, it will not be the last.
12. Communists, of all people, should keep their mouths shut
Former Belgian ,   Greater Tel Aviv   (05.14.06)
"Only" about 100 million people died in the name of Communism (Stalin's collectivization campaigns and the man-made famine resulting, the Great Purge, the Cultural Revolution, Pol Pot,...) In fact, Communism's total "body count" is higher than that of Nazism. So any Communist who has the chutzpah to preach morality to a country that, after all, is only trying to stop its citizens from being blown up, should have a long good look in the mirror.
13. PS:
Former Belgian ,   Greater Tel Aviv   (05.14.06)
PS: in fact, I wonderr how ANY communist who knows the historical record of his ideology can look in the mirror without throwing up. Let there be no mistake: the extreme "left" and "right" are merely two sides of the same stinking coin (totalitarianism).
14. During the mohammad cartoons crisis....
Nicolas ,   EU   (05.14.06)
all the israeli defensers explain us ( european people ) that freedom of expression was one of OUR values that we must not abandon to the blaickmail of the islamo faschists so ENJOY !!
15. Free speech vs. free hate.
Boaz ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (05.14.06)
The Muhammad cartoons (the original ones not the 3 fakes) were a naive attempt to understand Islam in the context of the current political situation and within the context of the modern open-minded society. This attempt was answered by violence and devastating hatred. This communist cartoon however criminalizes Israel attempt to protect the very lives of its citizens, and as such suggests that every living breathing Israeli, man, woman or child, is an abomination equal to the holocaust, and denying the right to live is as racist and anti-Semitic as it gets. This cartoon advocates and justifies the kind of violence perpetrated over the Danish cartoons and in other cases in the Islamic world. Stopping is stopping such violence – saving lives. And as for Palestinians having difficulties getting food. No one has to smuggle food to them with the risk of their own lives. And there are no children with bellies swollen from famine. So any compression with the holocaust is a sham.
16. anti-semitism

I agree with you. I am Jewish myself and I think that this is going too far
17. A question for Kate in London
Ezra ,   Los Angeles, USA   (05.14.06)
You wrote: "You know, it's a very uncomfortable thing to have to grow up in a country like the UK knowing beyond question that my grandparents would have been murdered by their fellow British citizens had the Nazis invaded in 1940." And I ask: Why do you live in the UK? Why not move to the Jewish state? Considering that you live in, according to you, such an openly anti-Semitic place, why not move already? Are you a masochist?
18. Good Fences Make Good Neighbors
Ron ,   America   (05.14.06)
Anarchy cannot rule. Order and respect for the law is required to have a progressive and civilized society. You wanna run around with guns and suicide belts, not pay taxes and demand rights? Do it in your pig-pen not mine.
19. #3
Talula Belle ,   Israel   (05.14.06)
What's this got to do with the latest cartoon? You need to get your facts straight before anything else. And by the way, you voted for a terrorist body to run your lives. You are paying the price, THAT's a fact, as simple as that.
20. #2
Talula Belle ,   Israel   (05.14.06)
Bet you don't see any Jew around the world setting fire to anything Italian now. Bet you don't see any Jew around the world beat an Italian senseless now. Bet you don't see any Jew around the world riot and smash shops now. But you will see a diplomatic response to this. And, there you have it, there's the difference. That's what and always will separate us. I wonder why Arabs are being portrayed as terrorists. Maybe because most of the vile and sick terror attacks around the world ARE carried out by Arabs. You all have a chip on your shoulder. You want the entire world to obey your laws, you hate the west because it represents everything you are not. It represents freedom. You are stuck in ancient and primitive times. You promise that if someone blows himself up and kills innocent people, he will get 70 virgins. COME ON!!!!!!! do you think any civilized nation can relate to that? It's only a Muslim country that can identify with someone blowing himself up. So don't preach about how much the world hates you. You deserve every ounce of hate. And as for freedom of speech, I'm all for it. It's how you treat it that shows what sort of person you are.
21. Antisemetic... Cartoons...Sour Grapes
richard Hitchings ,   methil   (05.14.06)
This cartoon simply makes a very valid point.... Do Jews think that they are the only ones that Suffered.... are they aware that Zionist policy also makes Palestinian people Suffer? Every criticism even in Cartoon form of Israeli Policy is met with the reaction... Antisemetic.... lol....Jews with no sense of humour.

23. #1 Briton, London
DR ,   Gwent, UK.   (05.14.06)
The cartoon depicts the measures that Jews have been forced to undertake in order to defend themselves, in this case the security barrier, as being totally unacceptable. Ignoring the Palestinian terrorism and the cold blooded murder of innocent Jewish civilians which gave rise to the need for the barrier in the first place outlines the true nature and foundation of this "cartoon". Fair, contextual and unbiased criticism of Israeli government policy is not in itself anti-Semitic, but when the Jews alone are isolated for such treatment there is no question as to the motives involved. There is no fair, contextual platform to this cartoon. Any sensitivity to the Jews themselves pertaining to it's relationship to Auschwitz is conspicuous by it's absence. When Palestinian terrorism ceases the barrier can be removed. The innocent Jewish lives lost that gave rise to it's presence cannot be replaced. The deaths of Israelis caused by terror are permanent and irreversible whereas the hardships faced by the Palestinians are temporary, reversible and will cease when attempts to kill Jews are themselves brought to a halt.
24. #2 "anti-Semitism"....
DR ,   Gwent, UK   (05.14.06)
Although anti-Jewish hatred has existed for thousands of years, the term anti-Semitism has it's origins around 1879 when it was SOLELY used to denote hostility toward Jews only. Some analysts attribute the invention of the term anti-Semitism to the German Wilhelm Marr who attributed the term to describe the policy towards Jews based on racism. Now it has become largely accepted as a conceptual label used to refer to any bigotry or discrimination towards the Jewish people, by both both semitic and non-semitic peoples alike. Measures taken by the Jewish state to defend against terrorism have been likened to "apartheid", and as here with the security barrier, are used as a foundation from which to vilify Israel. Palestinian autonomous areas such as Gaza have become forcibly "Judenrein" in the same manner adopted by the Third Reich itself, which strangely enough has it's connotations within the 'cartoon'. Yet such parallel criticism by the same sources who are so quick to 'point the finger' at the Jewish state itself is something else which is concpicuous by it's absence. It is not 'rocket science' to peruse the full context and arrive at an accurate assessment of the agenda of those involved.
25. Considering the Peace fence saves lives, Italians are wrong.
David ,   Boston, USA   (05.14.06)
Its ironic, that a fence that saves lives on both sides would be compared to Europeans trying to kill Jews. If Israel wanted to move the Palestinians or kill them, they'd be gone, but Israel and Jews have a much higher sense of moral than the general Eurabian and Arab country. I am very proud of Israel and its show of restraint against waves of Palestinian terrorism. Palestinians target women and children. One bomber kills dozens of women and children, while the IDF shows restraint in going after individual terrorists. This is just another example of of Eurabian anti-semitism. So much hate for people that gave you so much Eurabia never learns from history and is doomed.
26. To #5 it cause riots probably becuz they have been targeted

Add your extremely poor English to the list of shameful. For someone who lives in England, your English is shameful infact it's downright non-existent - AND there is no-one stopping you from going to school there.
