31. Let's riot and burn down embassies
Arie   (05.14.06)
Oh WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're Jews not muslims! We don't belive in the rule of terror like the muHAMedans do so we won't be burning down Italian stores and consulates like the muHAMedans would.
32. #26 seems to have forgotten...
RF ,   Israel   (05.15.06)
which religion has declared jihad on the other major religions. Typical arab logic...
33. ITALY AND ISRAEL
myron ,   USA   (05.15.06)
PRODI AND THE COMMUNIST PARTY WHICH RIDES ON THE NEW ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER'S COATAILS ARE A DISASTER, NOT ONLY FOR ISRAEL BUT FOR ITALY AS WELL. Let us not forget that Prodi and his Communist buddies like Bertinotti (Birra di notte--night beer i.e. urine) are the principal architexts of the Western European/Arab cultural, economic and political alliance described by Bat Ye'or in her book "EURABIA"I don't n-know what to say to Prodi , Bertinotti (Birra di notte) except--AFFANCULO TUTTI QUANTI
34. This was done by a fringe, not mainstream Italy
SPQR ,   Italia   (05.15.06)
The Italian Communist Party is a Fringe of society, it is not to be confused with the mainstream Italian Left which only barely won the recent elections, the cartoons have been widely condemned, and the Communists will suffer political reprecusions, because anti-semitism is unnacceptable in Italy. Mohhamad Ali Communists are in power in Italy? Were you being sarcastic or are you an utter bafoon?
35. For # 2
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.15.06)
Just a few corrections-- this cartoon is anti-Israel, not anti-Semitic. The word often is used too freely and incorrectly. Jasmine, the work anti-Semitic never referred to anything BUT Jews. It was coined in the 19th century to refer specifically to Jews. Look in any decent dictionary that gives the origins of words, or look in Wikipedia or some other online dictionary. In light of this definition. the old claim that Arabs "can't be anti-Semites because we are Semites" falls by the wayside as rubbish. The absurdity is the attempt to twist the meaning of a word.
36. #1 because such a comparison is preposterous.
AK   (05.15.06)
And it is anti-Semitic: Because it insinuates that mass murder of 6 million Jewish men, women and children by the most cruel and inhumane methods is somehow comparable to what the Israeli Jews are allegedly doing to the Arabs; Because the Nazis were found to be the vilest human beings and now the communists claim the Jews to be exactly the same; Because such a claim is a slander of the worst kind in that Israeli Jews do not lock the Arabs into the concentration camps where they starve and work them to death, or gas them, nor do they mass shoot them by tens of thousands and bury them in common graves. Now, why wouldn't you consider such a slander to be anti-Semitic? Do you think that the old accusations that the Jews poisoned wells or used Christian blood for matzos were anti-Semitic, or also a matter of opinion open for discussion and interpretation?
37. #2 The term anti-Semitic has never been used
AK   (05.15.06)
in the connection with Arabs, but only Jews, even though Arabs are Semites. The way term has been used historically is the only things that matters; it became a term-of-art. You claim that Palestinians and Arabs are being portrayed as terrorists. True. But it is also true that they actually are terrorists: Who blows up buses? Arabs. Who blew up WWC? Arabs. Madrid? Arabs. London? Arabs. Tel Aviv? Arabs. Who blew up tourists in Egypt? Arabs.
38. Go ahead Italy
Rotti ,   Italy   (05.15.06)
i'm glad my country have a new leader and will be the best leader in the world. New era is begin for Italy.. our will be a big and premier state. Italy is a state have very democratic people.. so about the antisemit cartoon.. just about the freedom of press!
39. "Arbeit macht frei"
Susan ,   Birmingham, UK   (05.15.06)
Jews Against Genocide spray-painted "arbeit macht frei" on the Qalandia checkpoint: http://www.palsolidarity.org/main/2006/02/13/jag-ii-manifest-destiny/ Was THAT anti-semitic too?
40. A response to Susan from Birmingham
Kate ,   London   (05.15.06)
"Was THAT anti-semitic too?" Naturally, but of course there is a huge difference given the massive involvement of the gentiles of Italy in the Holocaust. In actual fact the only people who do not consider this cartoon to be anti-Semitic are surely themselves anti-Semitic. Yet again evidence how little European gentiles have learned since their grandfathers and grandmothers collaborated overwhelmingly with the Nazis to murder 1.5 million Jewish children in cold blood. (Note: I do of course include the virulently anti-Semitic and totally perfidious UK here, a nation which effectively collaborated in the Holocaust through numerous channels including the 1939 White Paper, its immigration policy, and its deliberate failure to lift a finger to assist the drowning Jews of Europe)
41. A response to Rotti from Italy
Kate ,   London   (05.15.06)
"so about the antisemit cartoon.. just about the freedom of press! " One thing has little to do with the other. A person can exercise his right to free speech and still engage in evil at the same time. The truly shocking thing about all of this though is that it should have occurred in a nation which not so long ago directly collaborated in the murder of many thousands of its own Jewish citizens. Obviously there are many Italians who have learned nothing from these terrible crimes of the Italian state.
42. A further response to Susan
Kate ,   London   (05.15.06)
Susan (Blackwell?) suggests that a group called "Jews Against Genocide" painted "Arbeit Macht Frei" on a checkpoint. A little research into this has shown that the real perpetrators of this anti-Semitic outrage were the terrorist supporters of the ISM. Little surprise there.
43. Italy and Israel
renato ,   Belgium   (05.15.06)
Why is that Ynet only give negative news about Israel-Italy relationship? Why didn't you mention the party which took place in Rome 2 weeks ago to celebrate Israel's independance day? All the Italian parties (from Prodi to Berlusconi, who had a drink TOGETHER!! )were present with Israel ambassador who stressed on the excellent relationship between these 2 countries. A bond which will go stronger and stronger, as confirmed by all Italian politicians from the right to the left.
44. Richard Hitchins
Ram ,   London   (05.15.06)
Congratulations! You have retained your thick skin regardless of all the education you have been given through Ynet. You have a great reputation on this site ;-). Jew hater.
45. Freedom of speech
Muhammad-Ali ,   Montreal   (05.15.06)
in addition, the cartoons r criticizing Apartheid Israel for her Apartheid wall.

49. to #1
Hilda ,   USA   (05.15.06)
I'm sorry my dear but you are being naive and short sighted. The present day antisemites are smarter than the average bear. They caim--I don;t hate Jews . I only hate the policies of Israel. They say this because it has become non politic to admit you actually hate Jews so you disguise it but it is the same. You are blaming the tiny state of Israel because it is the Jewsish State. They place impossible standards not followed by any other country. No my dear it is antisemitism all right. Do you see any cartoons depicting the fact that Jews are not allowed to enter any Arab Coutnry let alloe live there. The US companys which deal with Muslim countries cannot have Jews on the payroll. Wisen up and read it like it is.
50. #2
Hilda ,   USA   (05.15.06)
Why is it free speech when it comes to debasing Jews or Israel and it's discrimination when it comes to saying anything against Muslims? I did not see you standing up for the Danish cartoonists and caling it free speech.
51. To #42
Susan ,   Birmingham, UK   (05.15.06)
"A little research into this" - not really necessary since the link I provided was to the ISM website! So they are "terrorist supporters" are they Kate, when all they have done is paint some graffiti on a checkpoint? Many of ISM's activists are Jewish but according to you they are all anti-semites. What a surprise.
52. #39, Susan: Short answer is: Yes.
AK   (05.16.06)
53. #38 Rotti and freedon of the press.
AK   (05.16.06)
Oh, you can print it all right, and I can tell you what I think of you. That's freedom of speech. Now, publish the Mohammed cartoon, or criticize Islam and their custom, I dare you. Jews are an easy mark, now let me see your courage where Muslims are concerned, you “freedom of speech fighter.”
54. To 51 Mohammad cartoons were also " some graffiti"
AK   (05.16.06)
And they were true, while your "graffiti" and the Italian cartoon is really libelous, a deliberate lie meant to defame Israel and Israeli Jews.
55. Richard Hitchings - #48
Kate ,   London   (05.16.06)
"I look forward to receiving a Delegation from the Golders Green" Hitchings is still living in an anti-Semitic Britain that disappeared in around 1970. Jews have moved up in the world, Hitchings. We now reside in places like Hampstead and Chelsea. You should adjust your primitive ideology accordingly. "I will of course put up my usual Resistance... as I have a Reputation to Protect. " The reputation of a barely literate building site labourer (at least according to one of his previous posts). The world is so very impressed.
56. A response to Susan from Birmingham - #51
Kate ,   London   (05.16.06)
"not really necessary since the link I provided was to the ISM website! " I was actually a lot more thorough. But it is interesting that you do not even try and deny that ISM were responsible for this outrage. "So they are "terrorist supporters" are they Kate, when all they have done is paint some graffiti on a checkpoint?" It is far more than that. In that the organisation's supporters have consorted with terrorists and promoted their activities, it is in reality a terrorist organisation. And the "some graffiti" was actually an extremely odious anti-Semitic statement. In trying to downplay it you should be utterly ashamed of yourself. "Many of ISM's activists are Jewish but according to you they are all anti-semites." If people make virulently anti-Semitic statements, then yes, they are anti-Semites, Jewish or not. After all, every nation has its share of traitors. "What a surprise." It is certainly no surprise to me that you do not believe that this cartoon is anti-Semitic. Indeed, you're just one more European who has learned absolutely nothing in the last sixty years. We Jews in Britain are quite used to it. For, as Melanie Phillips wrote recently: "It’s currently open season in Britain on Israel and the Jews."
57. A question for Kate from London
Ezra ,   Los Angeles, USA   (05.16.06)
You wrote: "You know, it's a very uncomfortable thing to have to grow up in a country like the UK knowing beyond question that my grandparents would have been murdered by their fellow British citizens had the Nazis invaded in 1940." And I ask: Why do you live in the UK? Why not move to the Jewish state? Considering that you live in, according to you, such an openly anti-Semitic place, why not move already? Are you a masochist?
58. 57 Ezra in LA... My friend Kate...lol
richard Hitchings ,   methil   (05.16.06)
Katie is a Russian Runaway Ez... She aint a real Brit anyway...I guess she dont really qualify to live in Israel either...and she just whines about how awful everyone is to her and other Semi Jewish people here in UK.... She dont like builders labourers either....lol
59. A response to Ezra
Kate ,   London   (05.16.06)
"Why do you live in the UK? Why not move to the Jewish state? Considering that you live in, according to you, such an openly anti-Semitic place, why not move already? Are you a masochist?" Do you imagine that everyone can just up sticks and move to Israel however much he or she may despise the Diaspora? Let me give you a few reasons why I cannot: 1) I only completed my university education (law degree followed by an MBA) 12 months ago. 2) I am currently involved in helping run a charity for survivors of the Holocaust in Central and Eastern Europe. I cannot imagine a more worthwhile pursuit for a Jew. 3) My mother is dying of cancer.
60. Kate
Ezra ,   Los Angeles, USA   (05.17.06)
Sorry to hear about your mother's condition. Stay strong. Regards, Ezra
