1. Hypocrite.
keren ,   sao paulo   (05.15.06)
Both of his sons are very far away from Israel, the same he will be as soon as his pocket will be very full and he will not see any personal interest in staying anymore. His way is already prepared abroad.Want to bet?
2. better come quick
aaron ,   ra'anana   (05.15.06)
before we disengage from the rest of the country
3. Not So fast Olmert. The Nerve Of Him Talking About Aliyah
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (05.15.06)
While aliyah is certainly the ultimate goal of a committed zionist, I find it absolutely enraging for Olmert to be 'summoning' Jews home. He couldn't even get his two sons to stay in Israel, nor for one to serve in the army. He was a deserter! This is also a man who can't get rid of our patrimony fast enough(Judea & Samaria, and possibly Jerusalem). He should kiss our feet, and beg us forgiveness before he broaches the subject again!
4. OLMERT THE HYPOCRITE
Raymond ,   South Africa   (05.16.06)
Yes, all Jews should make aliyah to Israel, but coming from a man who's 2 sons left Israel for the USA, says a lot about what he truy is about.A man not to be trusted & a hypocrite.
5. No offense, but...
Don ,   USA   (05.16.06)
Why would an American jew trade in the most valuable thing in the world, American citizenship, to live in the Middle East?? I have lived in Israel, I dearly love being there...I dream of Falafel and Shawarma stands...but, I mean, come on...to compare living in America to living somewhere else? please, give me a break...and any American who gives up on his/her country is a traitor
6. The funniest joke I had for some time!
Inyaki ,   Bilbao, Basque   (05.16.06)
7. funny
(05.16.06)
why should they come and live in a house when gush katif
8. Not is a religous dominated state
dave ,   San Diego   (05.16.06)
Why come to a country dominated by religous fanatics like the ClubMaoz? When Israel is a land respecting the rights of secular Jews (buying a cheesburger and getting a bus on Saturday) then "they will come"
9. Hypocritical but...
GaDo   (05.16.06)
Olmert may be a hypocrite. In fact, he most certainly is a hypocrite. But that doesn't change the relevance of what he was saying at this speech. We religious Jews are all hypocrites in a sense, since we pray thrice daily for the return to Zion and do not move there when we have the chance. That said, let's all make aliyah and make sure that no one like Olmert ever gets elected again. Let's just hope that by the time we do make aliyah, there's an Israel left to make aliyah to (if Olmert and his ilk haven't given it all away yet).
10. Am Yisrael Chai - A Return To Our True Home
(05.16.06)
Lets Restore Its Former Glory Am Yisrael Chai!!!!!!!
11. Get a Grip....Olmert was Right
David ,   New York/Tel Aviv   (05.16.06)
Olmert is not a hypocrite...he has one goal: to preserve Israel as a Jewish democratic state. That means pulling out of the territories and getting more Jews to come to Israel. If you don't support pulling out of the territories, please explain how we will preserve the Jewish majority. Don't attack Olmert until you have a better solution.
12. to Don regarding aliyah
Drew ,   Tucson, USA   (05.16.06)
Dear Don, I love the opportunities that I have had in America to grow up in a safe environment, but I can tell you that I do not feel at home in America. As a minority (Iranian American Jew who supports Israel) it is very hard to feel like I fit in. When i am in Israel, I'm much happier, and I can't control that. Therefore, I'm making aliyah this summer, but still keeping my USA citizenship because I appreciate what the US has given me (and all my family lives there). I don't think that I am a traitor, because I'm not going to move to Iran and join the revolutionary guard, or Al Qaeda! I just, as a Jew, feel it is more important to build up the Jewish homeland rather than stay in a country that isnt' mine....hope this helps you understand where some olim are coming from!
13. Israel, Artzeinu
Joseph ,   Jerusalem   (05.16.06)
Israel is the home of the Jewish people; Israel is for all the Jews, yes dear Olmert is right, come home, please come home and save our precious land from all these horrid people that make it such an ugly place. A third of the population is starving whilst fat cats walk with their heads held high, Israel has more charities per capita than any country in the world, whilst the rich get richer, the poor starve, and its not only the religious, more secular Jews dodge army service than ultra-orthodox. More wealthy people fail to pay taxes or manipulate the tax system than do the poor. Crime and corruption is the order of the day, there is a crime for almost every 13 people that’s even higher than the crime capital of the world South Africa. So yes come home, we need a united majority block to oust these would be leaders and take back what is rightfully ours. Israel should be a model to the rest of the world, our country is G-d given not man made.
14. After aliyah, will Jews' HOMES be DESTROYED & BONES BROKEN?
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (05.16.06)
Barbaric Muslim terrorists show no mercy to Jewish children. But Olmert and Israel's leaders don't go to war against the terrorists. Olmert waged war against defenseless Jewish children. On February l, 2006, in Amona, police on horseback charged at peaceful protesters. Jews passively sitting down were savagely hit repeatedly in the head with metal batons. This is the U.S. EU, UN/Russia Road Map "peace" plan in action; the total and criminal destruction of Jews' human rights, to give Jewish Land and holy places to Islamo-Fascist religious supremacists for a global Islamic Terror State. Shlomo Wollins of israelreporter.com: "I have just been contacted by a medic who has been involved with the treatment of the 200+ wounded child protestors. He said that doctors who have worked in Israel for 20 years are shocked at extent of wounds and numbers of injured. The doctor said that when the IDF raids an arab "terror-den", that the terrorists wounded in raid are usually less-severe than the majority of the cases with the child-protestors." 15. To don...
Geoff ,   Fort Lauderdale, FL   (05.16.06)
You never lose your American citizenship when you make aliyah, you become a dual citizen.
16. Bali-HI they call youuuuuuuuuuu!!
Yoel Ariel ,   mobile   (05.16.06)
What an excellent idea. An invitation that is hard to refuse. All that is missing is Lucca Brasi. I am very sure that Adon Olmert would guarentee me the right to comment on his skills at governing, and his progroms directed toward Judea & Samaria. Of course I would be free to invest my money and soul in a small flat somewhere along the coast as long as I wasnt too Jewish. My God, what a hypocrite. Olmert no more wants Aliyah than he wants a kick in the crotch. He just wants the investment capital and cash if possible. ***Un-traceable ***cash if possible.
17. To all hypocrites who claim Olmert is hypocrite.
Ron ,   LA   (05.16.06)
Olmert and Zionism To all hypocrites who claim Olmert is hypocrite. Olmert says exactly what Sharon and other leaders said since the beginning of Zionism. This is what Zionism is all about. If you think he is hypocrite ask 200,000 Americans and tens of thousands other westerners to choose Israel as their home. Talk for yourself, not for all Jews. ask hundreds of thousands of American like Tal Brody and many others if it worth it. Ask many Western Jews who choose to immigrate to Israel every year. Read this: “Alain Elbeze, 52, has resolved to move with his wife and five children to Israel. "Look at this," he says, gesturing at the barriers erected in front of his synagogue on the Boulevard de Belleville in Paris' east end. "I didn't have to grow up with this, and I don't want my kids to have to." http://www.time.com/time/europe/magazine/article/0,13005,901040906-689392,00.html Read this also: “Jewish immigration to Israel up in 2005, reflecting downturn in violence By Associated Press December 29, 2005 North American and French Jews moved to Israel in record levels this year, contributing to the first annual increase in overall immigration since 1999, officials said Wednesday, reflecting relative calm after five years of Palestinian-Israeli violence. By the end of 2005, about 23,000 new immigrants will have arrived in Israel, according to preliminary figures, compared to 22,134 last year, reversing a downward trend that began in 1999, said Michael Jankelowitz, a Jewish Agency spokesman. “ http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Culture/7395.htm You are hypocrites, because deep inside you know Olmert is right, but than you need to justify to yourself why you are still not there, otherwise why argue? If Jews would listen to you, Israel wouldn’t be a nation in the first place...
18. #8 Israel right now is as secular as it will ever get
(05.16.06)
You missed your chance, after Israel sees the failure of Olmert/Peretz trying for peace, Jews will replace the Erev Rav self destructive peons and restore Israel true glory. You should have gone years ago, Israel will rectify the mistakes of the past. This is as low as it will ever get, and as the religious birthrates increase and the secular decrease, the rightful place will be installed soon.
19. But if you are right-wing or Haredi
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (05.16.06)
If you are Haredi or religious Zionist, your kind are not welcome here. If you are right-wing, stay away, we don't want you questioning our policies. If you are over fifty and you don't have a pile of money, you're useless. Even if you have a pile of money, just send the money.
20. Was he speaking to his children?
AK   (05.16.06)
21. #8
(05.16.06)
Wtf are you talking about? We have McDonalds, and we have busses on saturday evening... and I dunno who do you mean by ClubMaoz, but whoever they are, they don't control our country.
22. I was there
Michael ,   Haifa   (05.16.06)
His personal life matters not!!! The message on the other hand does!! He talked about how he was sad that he and others who had grown up in Israel would never get the feeling that non-Israeli Jews get coming to Israel. Maybe that had something to do with his sons who knows. The point is I would be the last to think of alyah but that moment with the crowd cheering "Make Alyah" I don't think a person there didn't get swept up in it. And so far MASA in its 2 yr history has done its role to help kids that come on programs in Israel to do just that make Alyah!! And yes Israel needs the US Jews and others but we need Israel just as much.
23. So you can expel them?
Mad Zionist   (05.16.06)
Ehud loves pogroms so much he wants more Jews to come to the Land so that he can kick them out and bulldoze their homes just for laughs. http://www.madzionist.blogspot.com/
24. to Drew
Don ,   USA   (05.16.06)
I understand where you are coming from...but I can't agree America is an idea, an experiment...the experiment that says a nation can be more than one society, one religion, one culture...an idea/experiment on the premise that we, as people of all different makeups, religions, cultures can make one melting pot where ALL are equally represented...this experiment called America is far more noble than any mystical land spoken of in the bible as I said, i love Israel, ( i love being an israeli citizen), I love being able to be there anytime I want to live for as long as I want...but I will never leave permanently and give up on the most perfect human experiment in freedom ever created
25. Re: Don
Morris ,   NY, USA   (05.16.06)
Don, I definitely see where you're coming from, but I think you're referring more to extreme situations. I can tell you, I'm planning to make aliyah, but that does not mean I'm a traitor to the United States. I am still an American and always will be. It's not like the moment I reach Israel, I'll renounce my American identity and deny it ever existed. I would just as readily defend the United States if need be as I would Israel. There's such a thing as two homes you know, as you already seem to understand with Israeli and American citizenship.
26. #5 / #24 Don
Logic ,   Israel   (05.16.06)
How dare you call people traitors?! The stench of hypocracy looms in the air as you live in the USA while maintaining Israeli citizenship. Didn't you know that yeridah is not exactly a patriotic thing to do from the Israeli viewpoint? What if an Israeli branded you a traitor for doing that? Your opinion on America being a "perfect" human experiment is an interesting one, but both countries have their wonderful side and their warts.
27. We love you Ehud
laeticia Benabou ,   Jerusalem   (05.16.06)
There were yesterday in the Masa event thousands of youngsters and not hundreds. Most of the youngsters shouted" we love you Ehud".
28. I would LOVE to run to Israel...
Yonatan ,   USA   (05.17.06)
I just need to be sure I have my act together first. I don't want to be a burden to the government. And Don...Before you call me a traitor, how many wars have you fought for the U.S.?
29. Make alyia and secure Israel!
Ram ,   London   (05.18.06)
