1. Old tatics did not work
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (05.21.06)
Eli Sadan to me does not have the vision to fight for anything. The passive ressistence that occurred during the Gaza Evacuation was in my opinion too little and was bound for failure. I hope he is not one of the settlers negotiating with the Goverment. No one is saying that there will be no withdrawal but borders that are secure need to be drawn. Thomas Jefferson said a revolution now or then is good. The American Revolution was started was started by a minority of colonist. The Civil Rights protest was done by a minority in the US. Do nothing and the Goverment will go back to the 67 borders. A majority view does not mean it is right. He is right Civil Wars destroy far more than conventional wars, but if the Left Wing Goverment pushes for 100% instead of negotiateing in my private opinion there will be a collision one day. Especially if the Goverment feels that the minority will do noting.
2. A small minority is issuing the commands
Steve ,   USA   (05.21.06)
B"H ... and that small minority has made decisions that affected a large number of people. Numbers have nothing to do with it. What the issue is is how connected the small minority is with G-d. The hearts of leaders are in the hand of G-d, so the leaders, in their act of leading, acquire a more G-dly perspective on the world in terms of understanding the needs of the collective Jewish people in its relationship with G-d. It is hard for me to see the outcome clearly, but I think that the land is precious and it needs to be defended against attack for the sake of the world's welfare. That means that individuals must focus on charity, on impletmenting Torah law in agriculture, and getting back to the basics to build G-d's sovereignty by showing that G-d's name rests on the land. That is the priority. Whether done by a minority or majority, this practice is essential to the security of Israel, the Jews, and the free world.
3. the guy is not smart at all
Alex ,   LA, USA   (05.21.06)
He does not uderstands that Sharon and Olmert are crooks. They will sell anything for money. Now Olmert reolaces Sharon Jr. As soon as he makes enough money he will also disappear, either in jail with Sharon's son, or on Virgin Islans with his family. Some people still do not understand how bad are these crooks. Open your eyes.
4. load of rubbish
Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (05.22.06)
Let them have their civil war , the only thing that will be destroyed is the whining crying babies of the Hilltops . All in all it should take around a week :o)
5. #1 #2 #3 All from the USA - That says it all
David ,   Yerushalayim   (05.22.06)
6. secular sabra
boaz   (05.22.06)
how proud you are "secular sabra" how you love to put down the crying babies on the hill tops, one day they will come to pull you out of jerusalem and tel aviv g-d forbid.
7. ahavat yisrael
avramele   (05.22.06)
yisrael the land? or yisrael the people? While I have no remorse in choosing people over land, for reasons of both security and justice, the good Rabbi agonizes and comes to a similar conclusion of sorts. It is a difficult move for him and one can relate to his pain and torment.
8. To the secular sabra
G ,   Shomron   (05.22.06)
Do me a fabor, when the palis come to tel aviv and blow you or your family up, I urge you not to whine or complain, as you bring it on yourself. Or are you going to blame the "settlers" (which I just call Israelis)? The arabs are trying to kill you and you think the settlers are the cause, this media campaign of the arabs is working really well.
9. Secular Sabra, are you going to answer THE QUESTION?
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
10. David from Al Quds, what IS you IQ?
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
11. the good Rabbi Sadan is a Calvinist
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
Here is what the rabbi says: "Thus, an elected leader, such as a Prime Minister, who holds extensive authority and is well-informed, and who is obliged to make decisive and fateful decisions at any particular moment, represents … the tool through whom the Creator is currently leading our people. We should pray that he will be equal to the task and support him." Let's leave aside Merlot's stupidity, corruption, and ignorance. Sadan is basically arguing that the PM is G-d's vicegerent on earth. In other words, this "Jew" is a Calvinist (from Institutes of the Christian Religion): 92. The Magistrate is God's vicegerent, the father of his country, the guardian of the laws, the administrator of justice, the defender of the Church. Naturally, the French Zombie (Secular Sabra) and the Epsilon from Al Quds (David) find no fault in this just man.
12. why does Tene refer to this Calvinist rabbi as a "moderate"?
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
And how is this clown "leading"?
13. Apparently the good rabbi has been bought off
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
Last year, he supported refusal. What did they give him as a bribe? http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=86927
14. On the Move..
Talula ,   Israel   (05.22.06)
Pack up! Get out! And stop talking so much. Denial is a river in Egypt.
15. To boaz
Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (05.22.06)
Sure boaz sure :o) are they going to bring their mommies and daddies with them this time ???????????? They are the ones calling for a civil war not us . Let them try . World opinion is against them and the majority of Israelis want an end to occupation , so ? Let the racist, facist, blood thirsty , violent messianics have their civil war .... it's about time they understand that their dream of a 'Greater Israel' is over . The rest of us will gladly move on into the 21st century without them .
16. But I'm on a roll, my fudge brownie!
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
17. Not such a minor point-
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.22.06)
This article repeats a commonly accepted misunderstanding. Stated is: "it is the State that sent the Gush Katif settlers on their mission" To the best of my knowledge, the State never "sent" anyone to "settle" in Yehuda, Shomron or Gaza. Maybe they allowed, permitted, directed, supported or even encouraged people to move there, but "sent" implies something totally different. This oft-repeated spin should be removed from the argument.
18. Branner - what are you smoking?
Ronit ,   Tel Aviv   (05.22.06)
If the state ".... allowed, permitted, directed, supported or even encouraged people " to move to Gush katif why are you denying the basic concept that the state supported the communities only to expel them when they did not need them? You have no point. Stay out of the sun.
19. 76% voted against the Jew hating arelim kadima
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (05.22.06)
20. Dear Ronit (#18)-
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.22.06)
Nothing undermines one's argument more than imprecision. To argue that anyone was "sent" implies that some sort of command or directive was issued to specific individuals which, by law, they had to fulfill. To the best of my knowledge, no one every received an official letter from the Government or any State agency stating that they must move to Yesha. Everyone who ever moved there did so out of their own free will, whether for economic or ideological reasons. By repeating this phrase ("but, it was the State which SENT us") is simply untrue and weakens the vericity of their position. Neither does this mean that the State has the moral right to evict Jews from living wherever they want in Eretz Yisroel. That is debatable. PS - I don't smoke but could use a good tan.
21. Re: "Minority Can't Stop Next Pullout"
Moshe ,   Ramat Beit Shemesh   (05.22.06)
'Convergence', 'consolidation' or whatever Olmert chooses to call Geirush; the expulsion, the legalized theft of Jews from their homes, properties, communities, on any given day would be a logistical nightmare in which the regime would assuredly and continuously be confronted on each attempt by a vast majority of the 250,000 Jews living in Yehuda and Shomron. And it would appear that the rest of the country would come to a screaching halt. That is, unless the people have NOT learned the lesson of what Geirush from Gush Katif has wrought Kassam and Katushya attacks throughout the Negev. The Jews of Kfar Saba, Rana'ana, Tel Aviv do not want the bombardments occuring in S'derot, Ashkelon and the Negev Kibbutzim.
22. To # 19
Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (05.22.06)
LMAO. No they did not. Prove it please ??? Do you think that those that voted Meretz, Avoda , Gil and the Arab parties want occupation to continue ???? Boy are you confused :o)
23. civil rights movement
dave ,   herzliya   (05.22.06)
was not violent, the violent elements of it slowed it down. A violent movement for a political goal one believes in is what the palestinians do, we're bigger than that.
24. Finally - common sense and Torah sense
Karen R ,   Maryland   (05.22.06)
Kol hakavod to Rabbi Sadan. He can see the reality of the situation and also the morality - Jew fighting Jew and spilling Jewish blood is not the way of the Torah. The people of Israel as a whole have chosen to disengage. The settlements are dependent on the country, and to try to resist with bloodshed is not only against Torah but futile. Rabbi Sadan shows us that not all settlers are right-wing nuts. May he have many followers and colleagues.
25. #24 (Karen) on Torah sense
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
OK, Karen, you say that the good Calvinist rabbi can see the "reality" based on Torah. Therefore, please provide evidence from said book in support of your breathtaking claim. Me, I think this particular rabbi has all the integrity of Rabbi Gafni. Maybe.
26. You see, Reuven (#20) only cares about the "religious"
sk ,   USA   (05.22.06)
when haredim are at stake.
27. #26 - Huh?
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.22.06)
1. I care about all human beings. which includes 2. All Jews which includes 3. All observant Jews.
28. Is "Ahavat Yisrael" a cliche ?
David ,   Jerusalem   (05.22.06)
Is that how we relate to every issue? When Hamas and all the terrorists are laughingly waiting to puonce on us, do we call out "Ahavat Yisrael"?! When the secular Jw istrying to make our precious State unto a nation like all the others and, in doing so, desecrate the name and Land of G-d, is our answer"Ahavat Yisrael"?! I don't believe that Rav Sedan 's words are in context. Am Yisrael-anyone who has a brain0just open your eyes...see what's going on. We're the only ones that are going to save this Ste from self-destruction!
29. stop quoting Torah like a bunch of fundamentalist Christians
avramele   (05.22.06)
Even a most fallen halachic Jew like me knows that there is no Torah without well thought out midrash... quoting a pasuk proves nothing without intelligient commentary and back-up of solid rabbinic and other Jewish teachings. (Hence Rabbi Ovadia's on again off again support of territorial compromise) So please, my Dear American Brothers and Sisters save the out of context bible quotations for the next time a missionary shows up on your doorsteps.
30. my historical proof
avramele   (05.22.06)
Have we learned nothing from the glorious disaster of Bar Kochba and the experience of Rabbi Akiva, his students and the other horgei Malchut?
