61. Papa Razzi
Solo Mo ,   England   (05.29.06)
Shalom, I call the Pope ...PapaRazzi not because he was a Nazi but because of his media freak show. PapaRazzi asks " why did G-d not speak out on Holocaust?Does'nt This Papa know that hashem listened to and saw everything. He heard the Papist silence and saw the Htler Youth. Only hashem knows the real truth. I ask the Pope ..." where were you when they were burning the Jew? Speak up Papa ,they can't hear you. We hear hashems voice clearly and that is why we are still here to tell His-story. Am Yisrael Chai peace & light Mo
62. no poetry on pope
mo ,   england, U.K.   (05.29.06)
shalom, are you seriously saying that you found my Pope note offensive enough to senselessly censor it. Maybe the PapaRazzi did not hear g-d cos he is being censored silly too. Can't I be a proud surviving jew, can i not have my semitic say? and you think that is ok? an explanation might go a long way? mo

64. Enough already
Michael ,   Nanoose Bay Canada   (05.29.06)
Mr Plocker, please move on with your life. This theme has been played out over and over again. I for one am tired of hearing about it and enough reconciliation has been made to the jews of the world. The past is the past and I am sure the Holocost will always be shoved down the throats of the collective conciousness. What about the other atrocities such as Rwanda or Serbia/Croatia. Auswitch is getting boring.
65. what did you expect from a member of hitler youth ?
moish ,   israel   (05.29.06)
and a soldier in the nazi army many germans risked their lives to refuse to join the nazi party and serve in the army. did you expect otherwise from him?
66. 62 posts – definite consensus – nasty biased litlle article!
michael ,   tel aviv   (05.29.06)
67. Stop complaining
Yasir Al Wazani ,   Toronto, Canada   (05.29.06)
Always complaining, this article is ridiculous, when are you going to realize that this happened 60 years ago, its over now, you control 3/4 of every industry, what else do you want. I hope your prepared to take the blame for what you people are doing to the Palestinians, get ready, its coming. As time passes, its becoming more and more evident. No one feels sorry for you, it's enough
68. Enough, please.
Jack Weston ,   Victoria, Canada   (05.29.06)
Good God, let it go. Germans are no longer required to grovel at the feet of Jews for what ended 60 bloody years ago. As infuriating as it is that the goyim dared to strike so at the living images of God, how about saving a little outrage for massacres in Kosovo, Darfur, Iraq, or Palestine?
69. The moral failure of the German Pope
Arthur G. Sapper ,   Washington, DC USA   (05.29.06)
Excellent essay, truly excellent. It failed to make only one important point -- that the Catholic Church as a whole, not just the German Catholic Church, was indirectly responsible for the Holocaust by poisoning the minds of European Christians against the Jews, what Jules Isaacs called "the teaching of contempt." It was that for which the Catholic Church needs to apologize.
70. You are a RACIST
J.J. ,   Miami   (05.29.06)
Funny thing is that you denounce anti-semitism and anti-Jewish hatred when you are doing exactly the same against Catholics. It doesn't work that way man. You are just as bad as those you hate. Read what you wrote and realize that. I would be ashamed of myself if I were in your position
71. Kate Question
Lorenzo ,   NYC USA   (05.29.06)
Why were Hitler, the Nazis, the Germans, the Dutch and others so hell-bent on destruction of Jews? Why does the same hatred/fear/irrational behaviour continue today? How do people learn from the past and grow as humans instead of semi-animals?
72. keep complaining
sara ,   spane   (05.29.06)
the pope and the palestinian are complaining .Im happy to hear that cause one never complains or apologizes to a people they tried to kill if they feel those people will be gone soon anyway. When they complain I feel yofee!!! We are here, in our land and when the complaints stop it wil mean they see us as gone. The apologies from the pope exhibit his understanding that we are not going away for no apology would mean he feels the opposite. APOLOGY AND COMPLAINT HEARD
73. DEAR CHRISTIANS
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.29.06)
Dear Christians, As a Jew living in the Land of Israel, I would like you all to know that this article does not represent the attitude of many, if not most, Jews or Israelis. In my opinion, the repetitive critical tone of reminding the Germans, the Poles and others of the crimes of the Holocaust is wrong and counter-productive. The Christian world today and, in particular the Catholic Church, have made sincere attempts at repentence. Christianity is no longer an agressive, prostelyzing religion. Rather, in its general approach and its official relationship with non-Christians and with Jews, there has been a positive shift towards respect and friendship. Mr. Plocker's article is a bitter anachronism. I apologize for his shortsightedness and slights. The Pope was courageous in his recent visit and his expressions of remorse are highly appreciated. Reuven Brauner
74. Moral failure of German Pope . . .
Victor Gilinsky ,   Santa Monica, USA   (05.29.06)
To the trenchant points of the article one should add--the Pope should have asked forgiveness not only for the pre- and WWII actions of the German Church but also for those of the Church in Rome and for the moral failure of his then-predecessor.
75. Not just German, but Nazi
yehuda ,   new york usa   (05.29.06)
a) this pope was a Nazi, not just a German! b) He was a member of Hitler Youth c) He was a swastika wearing Nazi soldier defending Berlin, until the Russians were nearby about to conquer. Then his entire unit deserted, fearing the just revenge of the Russians. d) Today, he still follows his training as any defeated Nazi soldier would do. He attacts "world terrorism" listing dozens of examples of victims and only omitting ONE, Israel! (Later the Vatican explained, that he couldn't condemn the Arab suicide bombers without also condemnin Israel for it's "violations of International law" against the Palestinians. e) He is trying to make a saint of one of his predecessors, aptly called "Hitler's Pope" in the title of a biography. Pius was the first "world leader" to sign a treaty (concordat) with Hitler, and even after the war was over and Germany lost, issued passports for SS mass murderers, including Eichman, to escapte to Argentina on a Vatican passport. Your article just add ONE MORE reason, his current trip! to sign a deal with Hitler
76. Stop generalizing please!
Henke ,   Geneva, Switzerland   (05.29.06)
What's Gerrit's problem with the Germans? WW2 indeed was a war orchestrated and organized by the Nazis/Facists, who came to power as a political party within a nation. Did all Germans wanted the war for "Lebensraum", and the annihilation of the Jews? The whole world knows that the leader of the Nazis was not a German originally, that many of the crual guards in the concentration camps were not Germans, and that the facist ideas were supported by many non-Germans as well. Hence one can separate nationality from political ideolog here, even though the Nazis used the German army for its war (in which quite a few foreigners served for ideological purposes). To question the current conflict, who is at war now and is holding people hostage in 21st century concentration/torture camps (one official and many unofficial). Is it in the name of all American people? The current pope is/was a German, but does he have to appologize for crimes he did not commit. Additionally, why can't he be driven in a German car... a person of his status should be driven in only the best and as Ferraris or Lamborghinis don't make good limo's, this is the only right thing to do. Lastly, Steve Spane, it seems while speaking in name of all the Jews, you don't want to make too many friends; ones that you do need (and deserve in my opinion don't get me wrong), but by rejecting the world except for the jews, part of Hitlers dream might come true as unfortunately the official nation of the Jewish faith is surrounded by a sizeable number of people that not all wish them well... If too many of these people end up controling the armies of these nations, and Israel wouldn't have its powerfull friends, how long do you think Israel would remain a Jewish state? Its representative should watch out what they are denouncing. Can we stop generalizing, read about and learn from the past, and try not to be too narrow minded? As the article concerns, most comments spoke for themselves; it wasn't very well done. Cheers, Henke
77. human beings not "Germans"
Joe ,   brussels   (05.29.06)
If you insist on "German" pope, in a "German" car, you're very strongly implying that there was something racially "German" about what happened at Auschwitz - putting the German people on a different and lower level from the rest of humanity. Bearing in mind what you are talking about that is a very, very bad idea. We are ALL equal.
78. Shame on you
etaylor ,   los angeles   (05.29.06)
It is disheartening to see such hatred for anyone non-Jewish live on in people like you. Maybe the Pope should have talked about how the Jewish leaders in Russia decided to starve 12 million Ukranians to death instead? "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone..."John 8:7 ... a line from the New Testament...maybe you should read it sometime.
79. multi-ethnic makeup of the victims
Bavol ,   MI, US   (05.29.06)
You disgrace millions by ignoring the inviolable fact that the war machines, the nazi, the wehrmacht, the einsatzgruppen and their Final Solutions were multi-ethnic. To be marked, labelled, ashamed, and ghettoed alongside the judea. To be stripped of rights and citizenship alongside the judea. To be encamped, enslaved, and exterminated alongside the judea. To have 90% of your kind marked as a threat to purity to be eliminated. By Himmler's own orders, Gypsies were to be treated "on the same level as Jews and placed in concentration camps." Millions were slaughtered, some in camps, some never reaching that far. Many were experiemented upon, sterilised. By percentage, more Roma and Sinti were masacred than any other group. And your Shoah was not multi-ethnic? Our Porajmos, The Devouring of Rom Peoples means absolutely nothing to you. You sir, are as bad as those that would seek to forget the haulocausts entirely. In an age where the people are educated in soundbytes, history is rewritten one step at a time. Careful with those 'facts' you wield.
80. Never Enough
Andreas ,   San Diego, Ca   (05.29.06)
For some, nothing is ever enough. While Israel practices Warsaw-ghetto practices in the West Bank, we see someone claiming to speak for all Jews full of racism and hatred towards Christianity in general (I'm sure, Muslims don't fare any better - only the Jews are good, right?) and Germans. Maybe the article would be funnier if it were on Saturday Night Live under the routine, "Angry Old Man".
81. Dear POPE

83. Guilt
Harold A. Maio ,   Ft Myers FL USA   (05.29.06)
"God may have remained silent, but the Germans were the ones who murdered all those people. " And, of course, all those who knew, and did nothing share that guilt.. Those Americans and Cubans who refused the St Louis its docking, all those Allied commanders, who ignored Von Galen's sermons, while dropping copies from the air to inform Germans of the first acts of mass murder, the first gassings. All those who broke a single pane of glass. And all those who said, "I did not know," as the smoke plumes rose above Hadamar, and the children chanted, "Behave or you will be the next to go up the chimneys." And all those who today fail to teach the past in full, condemning so many to relive it, reimpose it upon some other selected group.. A guilt not shared broadly enough redeems too few. A guilt not experienced authentically, redeems no one. Harold A. Maio
84. Let it go
Rob Hildebrand ,   Portland USA/Canada   (05.29.06)
I am neither Catholic nor Jewish. I do wonder if we can, at some point, allow the German people to go on with their lives. Yes WW2 was bad, many evil things happened, on both sides. The Concentration camps were especially heinous. But does that justify the rest of us (the author included) holding this shame over the German people? Let the culture with no sin throw the first stone.
85. Anti-Semitism vs Semitism-Anti
Andrzej ,   Warsaw   (05.29.06)
Here we have Semitism-Anti :)

Jane   (05.29.06)
Since the time of the gospels until very recent history, the Catholic church has been the foundation and teacher of anti-Semitism. The multitude of Jews who lost their lives during the Crusades, Inquisition, pogroms and Holocaust did so because of an anti-Semitic ideology, the groundwork of which was created by the Catholic church. To expect us to overlook so long and dark a past in so short a time is unreasonable. The truth of the price that the Jews have paid in order for Catholics to create the separation from their Jewishness is a price too high to be dismissed by a belated partial acknowledgement of wrongdoing. I would venture to say that Jesus has turned in his grave many times as he saw what was done to his people in his name.

I would bet that you have no problem with the tiresome streak of self-pity eminating from others. Only the Jews, who have suffered time and again because of the Catholic church - and others - are a problem for you. "If the Jews have a problem with him, tough luck". Well, Richard, it is with the organized Catholic church that we have always had problems, not specifically with this pope. As to the only friends we have, well, we have the best friend and Father that anyone could ask for. Our Blessed and only Father is Hashem, and it is His love and friendship that has and always will sustain us in the face of those like you.

We control 3/4 of every industry? Listen, you anti-Semitic moron, it is the Palestinians who whine and whine and do nothing but blame others for their situation, the blame for which lies squarely with the Arab world and more specifically, their own leaders. Greedy, selfish, arrogant and filled with hate, they wander the world begging for money with which to prolong a fight they cannot win, instead of creating something good and positive, educating for peace and compromise and building a state of which they can be proud. I've had the bullshit up to here.

The Jewish leaders in Russia? What Jewish leaders in Russia? Are you out of your freaking mind?

There is something rather unpleasant about your choice of words. A touch of moral equivalence in a situation such as the one discussed is beyond the pale. It would appear that your latent "problem" is just below the surface.
