I abhor this boycott decision, but not because it smacks of anti-Semitism. That is too facile and I think ill-judged an assessment. It is abhorrent because it results from a simplification of a very complex conflict. It is the clever manipulation of people's ignorance, yes even teachers'. There is a link between the far left's anti-Iraq war slogan "Stop the War - Save Palestine" and the decision to boycott Israeli academics. The majority of them may be culpable of poor organisation and don't daily declaim the occupation, but are opposed to the occupation and many work actively to end it. I abhor it also because it is the product of those who wish to deligitmise Israel without actually understanding what that really means. They say they speak for the Palestinians. I doubt that. They are little more than fairweather friends and their antics will not get the Palestinians one centimetre closer to a two state solution and a viable state of their own.

First, this boycott show that withdrawing from Gaza has only hurt Israel. They have gained no political capital from the Gaza withdraw and have only succeded in created a Hamas led government that refuses to acknowledge Israel's existance. Al Quadia has also established a training area for future terrorists and thousands of Israeli evacuees are being forced to live in primitive con ditions.
