1. Dimensions for the Cave
Jeff S. ,   Ottawa, Canada   (05.31.06)
The article is interesting but the estimates for the Imperial measurements of the cave are completely inaccurate. If the cave is 2.5 km wide and 100 m deep then this would translate into 1.5 miles wide and about 330 feet deep. It was the depth that was incorrect in the original article.

3. There has been a large underworld in Ramle for years
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's Stables   (05.31.06)
I am suprised they found out about it only now. Well, maybe the police will see this article and start doing something about it!

8. Rare crustaceans
Pnina Moed-Kass ,   Herzliya, Israel   (06.01.06)
The unique discovery of a cave and one-celled crustaceans, unknown to the world, alas, cannot be shared with British academics. That's because Israel discriminates against crustaceans and enforces an apartheid policy vis-a-vis underground creatures. Oh, dear!

10. New species of animal life found in quarry
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv   (06.01.06)
Sorry, guys, your caption for your story regarding new species of animal life found in a quarry near Ramle is incorrect. This is a crustacean more closely related to lobsters, not crabs. And they are not unique they look like this because they were deprived of sunlight and have evolved to live in dark underground locations. They are well-known in the US as "crayfish." And I have seen similar ones which used to live in creeks under large tree stumps near my home in the US.
11. Sorry Randy it is
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv   (06.01.06)
spelled "crawdad" not crawdead" but this is the best we can expect from someone in Texas.

15. Update, British scientists
David Davidson ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.02.06)
As an update to the article, yesterday at 12:30am two british scientists were found trying to break into the cave in order to steal some Ayalon Crayfish for their own because of the boycott which doesnt allow them to speak with the 'aparthied' government in Israel. Luckily they were arrested by the Shin Bet before they could harm the ecosystem and destroy millions of lives. One of them was bitten by a blind scorpion, and now George Galloway is ill.
16. Response to #11
Patriot ,   Houston, TX   (06.02.06)
I think Randy was just being a little funny with his spelling. Wait untill Iran has its nukes aimed at you and see if his "Texas spelins" keep you from having us save your country yet again.
17. #6 and #3 are jokes (humor)
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (06.02.06)
#3 is a play on "underworld", which usually refers to the criminal world but can also refer to caves or Hades. #6 is an imitation of a very strong Texas accent. Translation: "heck! Those things are albino crawdads. We have regularones here but I've never seen them live for millions of years like those ones." Very silly. Sorry Randy, someone had to translate LOL
18. to #16
jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.02.06)
When the hell did you ever save our country? The states have snatched total victory from our grasp on a couple of occassions. They saved the arabs from total defeat in '56 and '73. They save harafat and the p.l.o. in '82.They prevented us from destroying terrorists and their infrastructure in both intifadas. Finally what is the big deal with this cave? We have older critters in the knesset.

benyahuda ,   Calumet, MI. US   (06.05.06)
8&12 Of course tyhey are discriminated against. They ain't Kosher. 10 There are hundreds of members of the crustacian family and these actually display some shrimp like characteristics. Look at the long thin 'pincers' and the graceful tail. 13 Jason's right. The US has screwed Israel royally several times in the last 58 years. The US has been a fairly good ally BUT has on several occasions stopped Israel from settling the problems with her neighbors. Especially in '57 and again in '67.
20. urgent high res image request
Aynia Noever ,   UK   (07.18.06)
Hello, I am the picture editor for Geographical Magazine in the UK and in our news pages this month we are running a feature on the discovery of the new species discovered in Israel (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3257522,00.html). We would like to have an image to accompany the piece so I was wondering if somebody could send me some images or put me in contact with the photographer, Sasson Tiram. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Aynia ------------------ Aynia Noever Picture Editor Geographical (the magazine of the Royal Geographical Society) Circle Publishing 2nd Floor 83-84 George Street Richmond, Surrey TW9 1HE Tel: 0044 (0)20 8332 8424 Fax: 0044 (0)20 8332 9307 pictures@geographical.co.uk www.geographical.co.uk http://www.digitalpublishingcompany.co.uk/activemagazine/welcome/RGM/RGM-12-07-2006.asp
