1. no one wants civil war God forbid but
Yisraeli   (06.04.06)
but are these rabbis on government payroll thats what im interested in knowing. Because if they are then theyre opinions are made invalid.
2. Rabbi Sadan and others -- thank you.
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (06.04.06)
I hope that your wisdom prevails in these discussions.
3. Confused Self-empretzelment
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (06.04.06)
An underpinning of "religious-zionism" is that the State of Israel is holy and that it is the first stage in the final redemption of the Jewish people. That works when the State does things which assist in this effort. That fails miserably when the State does things which undermine that ideal. So, how can we reconcile the paradox of holiness with a State which errs? Rather than admit that the State is NOT holy and just, maybe, it is NOT the beginning of the redemption, certain rabbis have recently been devising convoluted polemics and tortuous apologetics to explain themselves out of their dilemma. Their arguments are resolutely unconvincing.

The number one duty of a state is to protect the safety and welbeing of its population to the best of its ability. If the state forces itself to commit suicide for no appearant reason, thereby puttings its citizens in jeapordy, does the citizen not have the right to revoke the governments authority and legitmacy? The government can give all the land away and it will never be enough. Unfortunately our enemies want us dead. We should not go out of our way to assist them in their endeavor. In fact, instead of accomidating them in every possible manner, we should take the necessary actions to protect our citizens before the danger becomes too great.
5. #3 - You are part of the problem
Edan ,   Beer Sheva   (06.04.06)
rather than the solution. You should go start a settlement and live there... by yourself ....
6. WE don't need a bunch of sissy rabbis,Real leadership wanted
gabriela ben ari   (06.04.06)
These rabbis vowed to jewish security These rabbis vowed to their voters to fight Jewish ethnic cleansing These rabbis vowed after Amona to fight army and police unparalled brutality These rabbis vowed upkeeking jewish values, one of which is the inherent sanctity of this land These rabbis honestly seek "shalom babait", but what these rabbis try to ignore is that we have no leftist honest partners left So I beg, plead, entreat and remind these rabbis: do not advance any unwanted agenda at THE EXPENSE OF YOUR ELECTORATE
7. Rabbis without religion.
sk ,   USA   (06.04.06)
I ask Ynet readers to find the Judaism in these rabbis' position. There is none. But there's clearly Bolshevism. Consider the following: "Two weeks ago, Rabbi Eli Sadan took the initiative when he voiced concern over incitement against the government among the religious Zionist public." AH! Incitement! A nice Bolshevik term. What does "incitement" mean in terms of halacha? Nothing at all. Incitement is not a Jewish concept. And what of Sadan himself? Well, in #11 of http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3253552,00.html I quote John Calvin and show that Sadan, our Jew, is a Calvinist! THIS is Israeli Judaism? I am not claiming that there is no JEWISH argument that the rabbis could make in support of Merlot. What I AM suggesting is that no such argument has been made by these 20 rabbis. Note that Tanakh is nowhere to be seen. My dear fellow Jews, you should check out Caroline Glick's most recent column at www.jpost.com. You are being manipulated. Look, I sit happily in the US. I am not affected personally when a killer explodes in a Tel Aviv falafel stand, or when a rocket hits Ashkelon. But YOU are. Are you stupid Jewish sheep? Do you mistake a beard for wisdom? And as for those beards, where does their income originate?
8. Erev Rav 'Rabbis'
Lady Justice ,   City of Peace   (06.04.06)
The GR"A wrote many, many years ago that just prior to the coming of Mashiach, the majority of rabbis would be from the erev rav. The words of these 'rabbis' clearly identify them as such. Note the discrepancy between what has been said here and what our ancient sources tell us "...when the wicked kingdom of Greece stood over Your people Israel, with intent to erase Your Torah from their minds and to turn them away from Your favored laws...You...delivered chieftains to the hands of the downtrodden, MULTITUDES TO THE HANDS OF THE FEW, the putrid to the pure, tyrants to the righteous, and heretics to proclaimers of Your Torah...."
9. They are very right,
keren ,   sao paulo   (06.04.06)
Never violence should be aplied;it would only divide more the Country and bring more sorrow to all. The opposite is what is needed, which is Unity,as they say. A deep conscience on what is wrongly happening in Israel and a deep Will to fix it,along with strengh, determination and Love in heart are the only and best way to resolv ALL problems and put Israel in its RIGHT track.
10. Good for them - they know Torah as well as ideology
Karen R ,   Maryland   (06.04.06)
We should all welcome this recognition of reality and authentic Torah philosophy in the settler group. These rabbis know that "civil war" is both against the Torah and against the survival of Israel. Remember that civil strife was the final cause of the fall of the Second Temple. These are good Jews and good Zionists, and I hope their good will and common sense will prevail.
11. Distortion
Ahava   (06.04.06)
What is listed in this article in the name of the Rabbis is not what they said. One line of the signed document reads: "if we are told, in the name of the State or the army, to violate a Torah command, even a minor one, we will not listen." They proclaim that, although violence against brothers is wrong and should not be used, we must still strive to fullfill the vision of the greater land of Israel. 12. #11 is completely correct. Friedman & Ynet have lied.
sk ,   USA   (06.04.06)
Sorry, there's no way to get around it. I still think Sadan is a Calvinist, but the document itself and, it seems, the majority view, looks nothing like Ynet's column. Again, read Glick on Jpost. Israel does not have a free market for information. A big reason the Israeli government behaves so psychotically is because media work hand-in-glove with government to portray an alternate reality and to shield government from popular control.
