I suppose in a way it is. Liberal Democracy is the norm in the west and nothing can replace that (though many on the left think it should be replaced). If it is replaced then Western civilization ceases and a new different western civilization begins. I prefer the former. Islam can either fit in, avoid it or fight it. Few choose the first, the second option is not viable as Western economy is the dominant one in the world and that leaves alot of people contemplating the third and more than a few act on that option. If you want a fight, you got it...but option a is the best one i think. I wish for a day we can all forget this nonsense but that day is very far away. People always have a choice to change their leadership. If we look at history, people always rise up and win. The sad thing is that not enough Muslims see their own problems or they blame someone else (Jews, America, The West) for all their woes. Education is the primary goal for these people. ...however, to the casual observer it is difficult to see how most Arabs and Muslims are moderate, in the "Western" sense of the word. While only a small number (from a relative perspective) are actually involved in terror acts, it is the almost deafening silence from the majority which is so profoundly disturbing. This, in addition to poll results which do show a large degree of support for radical views and people, including OBL. While it may be difficult for people in majority Muslim countries to confront their leaders, both political and religious, this excuse holds no water for Muslim communities in the West. However, the PC liberal left in the West and their failed idea of multi-culturalism (as opposed to the American melting pot theory) is also at least partty to blame (in the West). From a big picture perspective, I see two main issues. The first has to do with the Arab and Islamic world taking responsibility and accountability for their failings. To always look elsewhere for others to blame and play the victim is very counterproductive. The Arab and Muslim world is in dire need of some serious introspection. The second issue is much more fundamental. It has to do with how one interprets the Koran. While you state that "they" don't express TRUE Islam, they would say that you don't express true Islam! Obviously, your interpretation is quite different from theirs. From what I've read about Islam, it like other religions (and religious texts), can be interpreted in multiple ways. In the Koran there are some very problematic passages. They are anything but tolerant or compassionate. From my viewpoint, nothing short of a total remake of Islam will bring about the required changes needed for its adherents to live alongside non-Muslims. In short, Islam is in need of nothing less than a Renaissance.
