jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.08.06)
investing in s.a. and canada.Let the Jews there know that thery should make allyah now! ofcourse if there is a health problem there or natural disaster, the ass-kissers in the Israeli govt and M.D.A. would rush people and supplies there.Forget about them and we can live without them and their unions.
32. SA is a mess
Nachash Tsefah ,   Tel Aviv   (06.08.06)
Apart from the fact that the boycott is factually, morally and politically WRONG, SA is not in a position to to point fingers at anyone else. SA is full of AIDS, crime, unemployment, deteriorating infrastructure, corruption, fear, hijacking, rape, savagery and barbarism. Soon it will be just another failed African basket case. Willie Madisha probably has 5th grade education and would battle to find "Jennisbeg" on a map. He should stick to looking after his constituents and ensuring that the "whekas have whek" instead of getting involved in issues that do not concern him. STUPID MUNT!
33. Apartheid is live and well in S.A
Darkest Africa ,   Joburg   (06.08.06)
for an example go to a site called http://www.careerjunction.co.za And on the search option under Employment Equity (Affirmative Action) option Simply choose only EE (AA) and for today only you will find “only” 120 jobs where whites need not apply. Go to the banks for a loan and one of the questions on the form is what race do you belong to, and if it’s a group loan then what percentage is what race group. So if any country is unqualified to speak of discrimination it is this country In fact the black government of the day is as preoccupied with race as our previous government they just have a different name for it. A new brand if you like.
34. Cosatu Boycott
Talia ,   South Africa   (06.08.06)
Can anyone take a trade union like Cosatu seriously? They have not managed to control the striking security sector, the ports sector or the teachers union. All of which are allied to their 'august' body. Unable to impact and coordinate local labour they have turned their focus to international politics... a much easier topic to sound off on, because, lets face it. Israel-bashing is a international pastime... and no one in SA is going to march or demand higher wages. Its a safe statement to make, and that is what Cosatu is all about... proclaimations with very little substance to back it up, and with no real action plan to follow.. hot air is all that this trade union is good for.
35. South Africa boycott Israel
Bob ,   South Africa   (06.08.06)
The true Apartheid now is in South Africa. Whites cannot get jobs . What do you call that????? Also we live each day in fear. We build High Walls, electric fences, Barbed Wire around our homes. We live worse than in a concentration camp. THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. STUPID IDIOTS Ask the President why he has High Walls, Security Fence, Guards etc if South Africa was such a good place to live, Even the Deputy President of South Africa commits crimes RAPE ACCEPTS BRIBES ETC AND WHAT WE DONT KNOW. THEN HOW CAN ANY SOUTH AFRICA OPEN THEIR MOUTH TO CONDEM ANOTHER COUNTRY. LOOK IN YOUR BACK YARD FIRST. LOOK AFTER YOUR PEOPLE AND DONT LET THEM STAVE AND LIVE IN THE STREETS AND IN SHACKS. HYPOCRITES.
36. South Africa Boycott
POPPY   (06.08.06)
Who is Willie Madisha anyway Who cares what he says I am sure he lives behind a wall, with electric fencing and guards. What does he call this. SECURITY?????? WHY DOES HE NEED SECURITY I WONDER LIVING IN SUCH A '"SAFE" COUNTRY.

***Bull dust - keep us safe from these animals.*** And what about this approx. 4 000 (!) "White Superior Race" -S.Africans, the leftover scum from apartheid of racists, torturers and killers, who have joined the US-hoodlums in Iraq? Have they reached their final destination, where their skills, i.e. to torture and kill, are badly needed? http://www.mg.co.za/articlepage.aspx?area=/breaking_news/breaking_news__national/&articleid=273792 ***"If you keep dangerous animals in your yard, you have responsibility to ensure they don't get out and harm people," Defence Department official Siviwe Njikela told committee members. He said an estimated 5 000-plus South Africans were working in Iraq "doing Lord knows what".*** How true, how true.

Apartheid in Israel? You haven't a clue!
41. They're blowing hot air
gm ,   south africa   (06.08.06)
These south african boycotters love to side with the apparent underdog, which the 'palestinians' have so successfully made themselves out to be, through propoganda. Israel shouldn't worry about it, because they do a lot of screaming and shouting, but all of it is meaningless.
42. #23 Fred
gm ,   south africa   (06.08.06)
With all due respect, you can't compare south africa to Israel. You are right "apartheid" means separation, but there were certainly no fine Christian people running south africa during apartheid. Apartheid needed to be abolished and Nelson Mandela was an amazing leader to facilitate this process. The difference is that Israel's wall is a protection from terrorism and the world wants her to remove it and be vulnerable to terrorists. Jews have returned home to Israel, it is our homeland. The 'palestinians' are the colonisers. In south africa, the reverse was the case. The British and Dutch moved in and sent the blacks away. This is the difference. Another difference is when there were peace negotiations between blacks and whites, compromises were made and no fighting took place. Terrorist bombings ceased and rhetoric changed ON BOTH SIDES.
43. Who takes notice of COSATU.They're a bunch of Wankers de Lux

44. boycott
KS ,   California   (06.08.06)
Thanks for the reminder that anti-semitism is well and strong in the world.
45. Stuff you, COSATU!!!
Yehudi ,   Jhb, South Africa   (06.08.06)
Stupid idiots. You have no idea what the hell you are saying, stupid blind fools. How dare you compare the SA apartheid regime to the Israeli 'occupation' of Palestine!!!! You damn wish the racist apartheid whites had treated you like the Israeli treats the Palestinians. Hell, the only reason we keep them out with walls (In Israel) and that, is that they kill our innocent kids and civillians! Suicide bombings! Stabbings! Unprovoked and mind-boggling! And it's still not enough! We (Israel) don't have discriminatory racist legislation built into our constitution and law system, like the SA apartheid regime did. It's very sad that thousands of black South Africans, who simply don't know any better, are fed these anti-semitic lies: they will kick at anything that has an 'apartheid' label, and what with the Durban so-called 'World Conference against Racism' only 5 years ago (which turned out, ironically, to be a vicious anti-semitic fest -- check out http://www.eyeontheun.org/view.asp?l=16&p=69 [warning, there's some hectic hate propaganda there]), an anti-semitic media, and simply not knowing the facts, these masses of people have an aversion to, and a prejudice against, Israel. I am a proud Jewish South African, it's a great place here (has its problems, and it's just not Israel, but still). It's just incredibly frustrating to find COSATU manipulating a people's raw wounds into hate and discrimination. It's a bit like telling a rape victim that the man in a couple who got divorced raped his wife. It's not true, it's a distortion, and you're arousing the anger and hurt of the victim against people who are totally innocent of the crime, in a dishonest and perverted way...

48. Anti-American/Anti-Semitism is the unifier of the Left
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (06.08.06)
There is really nothing else that holds leftists together. Communism has failed and fallen. In a world-wide capitalist system, trade unions that prided themselves on their leftist character, and which have no appreciable accomplishments to justify their existence, are getting their names in the news by boycotting Israel. This allows them to be "relevant." They are striking out at America and at Jews and Israelis. They define themselves as leftists NOT by what they stand for but rather by who they attack.
49. Jewish -Black relations in SA have always been good...
Alan ,   SA   (06.08.06)
Mandela +his wife found employment in Jewish owned organisations when no one would touch them (even before Khaddafi and Co sponsored them.)Also many Jews were imprisoned to advance the liberation agenda(.I would think the most Per Capita for Whites.) .We know who they were. This so-called brother Trade Union Solidarity has the same "sincerity" as the Durban Race Conference had a few years ago. That turned in to a Jewhatefest Although supposedly exclusively an Anti Israel effort, the people organising such initiatives as Durban, have no scruples in allowing a Anti JEW spinoff to develop as a by product. SA has had enough Race Problems It doesnt need more. SA has a large Muslim Population as well. We dont need/want friction with this group either. We dont want to have SAJew-Muslim stresses already not great because of faraway Israel/Palestine situation deteriorate in any measure at all. Remember it is a COSATU initiative,NOT a government initiative.. While whole classrooms of Primary School Girls are Raped and Vice Presidents have "block booked" the Supreme court this year for Rape and Corruption Trials COSATU should spend its energy on fighting causes from 40% unemployment, 1in4 Aids,Nepotism,Corruption,Crime de lux .You name it,COSATU has its own job cut out already

51. Who cares ? God cares !
Macel Abel ,   Thoiry, France   (06.08.06)
How charitable is'it ! Open your heart and don't count. Read the Good Samaritan or read it again. Bearing one's cross is not enough : we should try to make the burden of others acceptable. But in this cruel world, the most deprived still have eyes to contemplate God's glory, and those who have achieved higher standards of living - unless they have no mercy - could help the most indigent, not forcibly lazy, only despicable in their eyes, more often desperate people. Not lumping together various situations. Israelis are allegedly the best in many fields. So is it so hard for such high-flying people to know what to do. Instead of relying on a much controversial fence or whatsoever else. More faith would bring back peace as surely as the Walls of Jericho collapsed : « In the Old Testament, in Joshua chapter 6, we have an account of the Israelites defeating the city of Jericho when they came into the Promised Land after wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. According to the biblical account, after the Israelites marched around the city once a day for six days, on the seventh day they encircled the city seven times. On the seventh time around, the priests blew the trumpets, the people shouted and the walls fell flat. » Was there need of a new wall ? When all life has disappeared, God will stay alone thinking it's time to come back to square one and start again with another species now set free of their internal jails : Goethe used to say : more Light. Yes, more light and more compassion.
52. Selective moral outrage
Gavin.Hawthorn ,   London,England   (06.08.06)
Israel is not perfect by a long stretch but there are far worse regimes in both Africa and the Middle East. Madisha should concentrate on Cosatu's good record of intervention on issues of importance to South Africans like AIDS,unemployment ,poverty, corruption,Swaziland and Zimbabwe, instead of jumping on the hypocritical bandwagon of Western pseudo-liberals.Incidently ,the crude racial slandering of South Africans by some of the American contributors to this site is disgusting and says more about misinformed, ignorant ,America than anybody else.
53. Boycotts are reciprocal
surbitonite ,   London UK   (06.08.06)
I've been boycotting South African produce ever since Mandela's expressed support for the PLO. So look at the labels in your supermarket or greengrocer's and don't buy South African avocados, grapes, persimmons etc etc. Make an effort to seek out & buy Israeli!
54. South African union joins boycott of Israel
Liviu Minda ,   Cape Town   (06.08.06)
Many COSATU members are Jewish. The COSATU constitution demands his representatives only to defend his members interests as employee. No politics is allowed to be performed, neither national nor international. I think by these comments and remarks, the COSATU representatives who made them publicly, are extremely guilty before their own members and should pay for their bios opinion.
55. POPPY #36
gm ,   south africa   (06.08.06)
You might be upset that some ignorant south africans are boycotting Israel. I agree with you that they should take a flying leap. They don't know what they are talking about. HOWEVER, other countries in the world wish they had leaders like Nelson Mandela. When he came into power, he was a man of honour and allowed for a smooth transition from apartheid to equality. He deserves respect from people of all races, religions and cultures. Your post was extremely insulting and showed a huge amount of ignorance on your part. By the way, if you are wondering, i am white.
56. #36 SORRY :(

I am embarrassed, i didn't read the article thoroghly and thought you were being sarcastic. Sorry
57. Ellen the Moron
Jane   (06.08.06)
The so-called refugees will go to the Palestinian territories. There will not be 2 Palestinian states. And, at the rate they are going, there will not even be 1 Palestinian state. The racists, Ellen, are you and all of your anti-Semitic friends. Not anti-Zionist, Ellen, anti-Semitic. If we cannot have a national movement when you feel it appropriate for everyone else, you clearly reveal your true agenda. You obviously know nothing whatsoever about the realities on the ground, so do yourself and everyone else a real service and shut up.
58. The boycotts
Truth 2 ,   Bristol-U.K   (06.08.06)
The boycotts have become a huge joke for sure.Especially the latest being South Africa. We first had the British academics twice boycotting our Israelis. That went down the trashy can. Then,lo and behold we had the "Church of Scotland" no less, with their own version. That too was a non strater. The other was the largest Canadian Unions--more of the same, and what did they get in return?Oh dear! Muslim Terrorists preparing to anihilate the head of state, and was luckily avertet. So that too went down the pan. There many which boggles the mind it seems. Now of late it is the (ex nazi) Sweeds and the labeling of the Israeli wines business. The last one S.A's is laughable, they should concentrate on their dismal health and economy which is hardly anything to be proud of. I rest my case...
59. South Africa and the inumerable boycotts.
Truth 2 ,   Bristol-U.K   (06.08.06)
#1Art Right you are,and I think they like all the rest have jumped on this band wagon. But may I remind you that those good Jewish people you mentioned--especially Joe Slovo, were all "Communists" as was Mandela.Remember that friend. Having said my piece,I do agree with your post. They are certainly ingrates, and like the rest of the "Boycotters" will go down the drain, fear not...
60. Boycotting Israel
Gail Payne ,   Holyrood Canada   (06.08.06)
This is absolutely nonsense and really very childish. I read the newspapers too and I see others getting away with so much and everyone seems to want to pounce on Israel. This is a democratic country and they need our support, not our condemnation.
