1. Phd = piled higher & deeper?
Logic ,   Israel   (06.11.06)
2. Very naive
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (06.11.06)
The writer is very naive. Absolutely unbelievable! This individual Gershoni wouldn'y think a second and remove you to the other world if he knew that he could get away with it. How could you believe such an individual? Gershoni knows exactly what he is doing. Who do you think provides maps, locations of schools, weopons, etc. to Hamas? The guys like gershoni.
3. Stunning Hypocrisy
NYC Girl   (06.12.06)
We have the same situation in a number of our leading universities, but in some cases it can be traced to huge sums of money from reactionary countries like Saudi Arabia being donated to fund Middle Eastern Studies departments. I hardly think that's the case in Israel so it must be strictly a function of some very radical academics who can't stand to hear an opposing opinion. But any parent of a college student should be aware of the fact that there's a lot of coercion going on in these schools and that often students are being prevented from hearing both sides of some very contentious issues, which is a necessary component if one is to develop skills for critical thinking.
4. Thank you Robert Jancu
Jenny ,   USA   (06.12.06)
Thank you for exposing the hypocrisy of the liberal left. They are not ashamed that they don't practice what they preach. As a matter of fact they are proud of themselves for getting away with it for so long. Free speech is only allowed for people who agree with them. Others are to be silenced. For example check out the article on this site about Eyal Sivan and his lawsuit against a philosopher who called him an anti-Semite. He loves to insult Jewish Israelis all day long but the minute someone identifies him as an anti-Semite - it's lawsuit time. Sometimes hypocrisy knows no bounds.
5. Freedom of Speech...
Moe Chile ,   London, Canada   (06.12.06)
is a fundemental right of any democratic nation, not to mention something that is upheld in the so called highest of all institutions, namely the United Nations. It so happens too, that Netenyahu was stopped from speaking at Concordia University in Montreal a year or two ago (because of intimidation from a certain group ), a place of so-called higher education and a known arena for anti-semitism. People like Noam Chomesky and Edward Said were people who understand these ideas yet even they themselves fell into the trap of hypocricy when it came to freedom of speech and issues of ethics. For these professors at TVU ( which by the way is a vocation not a appointment like a judge and they therefore should not hold a position as such ) to speak out of both sides of there mouths goes to show that freedom of speech is a dead duck in the waters of academia whether it be in Israel or in other places in the world. One only need look at how the professors in Britain reluctantly withdrew there support of the boycott against Israel when they realized that it would harm the ability to do research, not because they felt they were wrong of course, but because their livelihoods would at best be reduced as a result of their decision. When our educators start dictating their personal views to us as mantra, and as a result influence our youth and society in a manner that is not akin to freedom of thought or speech because of the duplicity in their tone, it is time to start wondering why we have places of higher learning and why we put up with such nonsense.
6. Gershoni Exposed & So Are His Comrads
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (06.13.06)
Robert, you certainly know how to unveil the masks from the enraged faces of the radical left academics. The only exception that I would make to your article is your final paragraph. While you might (or maybe you really don't) believe that Gershoni was sincere in his previous declarations about freedom of speech, I highly doubt he ever was. Even for a New York minute. I don't know him, nor do I care to, but it has been demonstrated over and over again that the radical left is religious about the rights of everyone who furthers their agenda. Anyone else is persona non grata and must be stopped by any means necessary. Have the readers ever wondered why the radical left is seemingly in bed with the Islamists, despite their divergent views on women, homosexuality, abortion etc etc? The reason is because they both despise Judea Christian ethics, and anyone who displays a connection to these values is to be thwarted. It is this radical left mindset that Gershoni is operating under. It makes sense to view his and his comrads actions in this distorted context.
7. EXCOMMUNICATION for jew haters - jew hater is no jew

8. Parasites, like the TAU, shold work!
yehuda ,   new york usa   (07.09.06)
It's overtdue to stop forcing underpaid, lower class workers to support overpaid parasites like the TAU faculty! These professors, are entitled to "free" speech, not forced overpaid, speech. Besides from extreme right wingers likeYu'val Neeman (the co-discoverer of the quark theory of particle physics) and a law school professor the former head of Mizrachi, what has Tel Aviv University) ever given us other than self-hating parasites. Let them work for a living and not sponge off the poor and lower middle class!
9. Disgusting
Ronen Noy ,   Modi'in, Israel   (07.11.06)
I am starting TAU next year, and this is exactly why I have no plans to participate in any social/intellectual events sponsored by the university (or any other, for that matter.) We live in a democracy, where everyone is entitled to their opinion and freedom of speech. This does not give you the right to be a traitor, though. Just another prime example of why we need a friggen constitution in this forsaken country. These professors can go live in Gaza, along with their beloved Arab MK's.
10. so why is Jancu in the US?
marya ,   tel aviv israel   (07.13.06)
Gershoni is living an Israeli life, risking the bus-bombers and katyushas and participating 100% in our political and intellectual discourse. So you don't agree with him? So bring your life to Israel and join the discourse in real-time. I'm sure TAU would be happy to hire you.
11. Marya--100% correct
Robert Jancu ,   NY, USA   (07.13.06)
Marya--I could not agree more. I will be returning home soon.
