1. Fascism?
Brandon ,   The United States   (06.12.06)
Does this mean these foods will be removed from ALL Israeli stores based on what some rabbi says? If that is the case, this is pure Fascism. Nobody will take my snickers from me... VIVA LA DEMOCRACY

Another buck for the the rebbe.
3. We had a similar problem here in Afula
jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.12.06)
Certain products from the states were kosher at one super and removed from the shelves at another. I asked the ass't.mgr.why this happened. He said they did not pay the rabbi for a kosher certificate for some items. The other store did. When the super-sol big had an American festival about half of the items were not on sale.I was told they were on sale at other stores in the chain.Even OU labeling will not help. I wish there was a way to check this.
4. Does It Really Matter?
NYC Girl   (06.12.06)
How many Israelis really give a damn whether Snickers are kosher or not? This is the 21st century for heaven's sake and Israel is under a constant existential threat. Somehow, Snickers not being kosher doesn't quite rank right up there with the President of Iran claiming that Israel should be wiped off the map or Hamas being elected to lead the Palestinians. No wonder so many Israelis want nothing whatsoever to do with religion.
5. tictacs? don't care..but don't slow down the snickers train

It does matter. Many stores will not carry these items on their shelves.I do not want to wander from store to store to find these items. Like I told my friend,if I had a choice of buying a can of soup from the states that was not on sale or the rabbi dropping dead with his pay-me cerificate.Let him drop dead! I am tired of their games. They make enough money and an OU label is good enough for all Jews. Why are items kosher in one store and not the other in the same city?
8. #4 NYC Girl - Yes it does matter
Chaim ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.12.06)
The president of Iran, and Hamas, would have alot more respect for the State of Israel, if everyone kept Kosher and religion mattered. They want to wipe Israel off the map becuase most Israelis live without G-d. If moslems saw Israelis behaving truly Jewish, they would treat them much better - and dare I say it - might actually welocme a G-d fearing Jewish state in their midst.

"Somehow, Snickers not being kosher doesn't quite rank right up there with the President of Iran claiming that Israel should be wiped off the map..." So, we should stop keeping kosher because of this???

(sarcasm)Ah, ah, ah, Chaim! Don't go quoting Torah ideas again! Just because it's been keeping us going for the past 3300 years, in TODAY'S world, it's relevence is waning! (/sarcasm)
11. Fraudulent labelling
Jake ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.13.06)
Everyone seems to have missed the point... that this is a matter of CONSUMER FRAUD. Either Ralbag or the manufacturers / distributers / importers mislabelled something, deliberately or accidentally. This is the same kind of mislabelling which hurts non-kosher-observers, in food, medication and other consumer products. If some criminal intent or culpability occured here, then the law should pursue the guilty parties.

Agree with you on the consumer fraund, many years ago, in a far away universe (so to speak) I worked for a consumer affairs office. But I'm more annoyed about the mislabling of calorie counts, for example oils that are marked as having less than 900 calories per 100 grams. Makes me wonder about the rest of the nutritional information. Don't worry all, even if the kashrut is removed from these products, they will be available from kioskim and delis that don't keep kosher. All the more for us!
14. Omigosh! No way!
Jerusalem,Israel   (06.13.06)
I love snickers, mars , bounty ice creams, and tic-tacs! The rabbinate does'nt even eat this kind of candy! Israeli candy bars are disgusting!

Joan ,   Haifa   (06.13.06)
Excuse me, plenty of Israelis *do* care about kashrut. Most of the people I know are *traditional* -- that is, not strictly Orthodox, but kashrut-observing. Yes, there are problems with the rabbinut. But I don't think anybody's saying they're the same thing as, say, Ahmadinejad threatening to wipe us of the map.

What about all the religous Jews that were living in arab countries before the state of Israel? There were murders, pogroms, children stolen and converted to islam. These were religous Jews.Irregardless of how religous someone is they will at best be a second class citizen with the moslems. They do not want anyother religion in the world.

You don't get it. There is a distinct connection between kosher snickers and Iran. If every Jew would create the habit of consuming at least two kosher snickers per day the President of Iran would be forced to abandon his evil intents and even repent by signing a peace treaty with Israel, furthermore, a military pact with Israel against his Arab neighbors would be signed. It all depends on kosher snickers. In fact future military experts and strategists will define battlefield losses and mistakes as being a result of the previously unknown, "kosher snicker syndrome". Vayehi or, vayechabuhu.

Did you get a certificate from the Toronto Rabbanut for the nonsense you posted ? Before you attack me, I have been living a long long time, have not eaten snickers or any other chocolate for around 40 years and non kosher meat is and has been anathema to me. People who demand a certificate to eat snickers are living in the ice age and the Rabbanut kashrut services are based on sound business principles.

#1-I want to know the latest up to date positive reassurement that the items I am consuming are kosher-forgive me? #2-#14-Israeli candy bars are awesome! #3-NYC girl-I have many Israeli friends(secular and religious) including my husband. They do care-don't be judgemental of Isrealis that might not be "orthodox" #4-I agree that if the level of holiness rose in eretz yisrael, so too would the level of terror lower.

and stop this terror once and for all, if only Ben Gurion, Sharet, Eshkol, Golda, Rabin, Bibi, Barak and Sharon had had the intelligence to work this one out !

"People who demand a certificate to eat snickers are living in the ice age" They're the same people who keep Shabbos as well. They're also the same people with Jewish great-grandchildren, which you can't say is the general rule for people who do not keep kosher or Shabbos.

If some one shops in a kosher store they expect everything to be kosher. If you are loking for treif go to Tiv Tam. Oh wait your in the States so this doesn't even affect you. So why do you care?
23. For sure tic tac is not kosher -Hey you who dont care kosher
gabriela ben ari   (06.13.06)
many years ago my rabbi back in the old country, who happens to be a chemist expert as well 'pointed out to me that the ingredient posted there, as something like "magnesium stearate" (not sure 100% of spelling it correctly) is animal FAT - flat and square !!! Candy from hu"l is very problematic, their ingredients are hardly understandabe, and most have gelatin from cows, not slaughtered hallachically If some of you dont keep kosher - WHY DOES IT BOTHER YOU???? You'll eat pork if that were avilable also! Supermarkets CHOSE to sell kosher, no one imposed that on them. This is a democratic country, where 62% keeps kosher from some level or another!

Rambam. "the commandment to settle the Land of Israel is worth the weight of all the others combined". The family of my wife and my family have been doing this for almost 100 years. It sure beats a kosher or non kosher snickers bar. This for me is being more Jewish than all the outdated and useless practices of the various Haredi communities, but, each to his own.

Rambam. "the commandment to settle the Land of Israel is worth the weight of all the others combined". You quote this Rambam to support you. Howabout every OTHER Rambam that deals with one's OBLIGATIONS...such as Kashrus?
26. TicTacNo
GrAnnie   (06.14.06)
Pity ynet took this debate off, when it's such a lively one, but left shmadonna there. Such good 'taste' as usual,ha ha. But seriously. I like to take candies to synagogue for my grand children, and Tic Tacs are convenient and neatly packaged. As their parents and we, observe Kashrut, I will no longer do this. But my main point IS, yes, I'm getting there, that there must be mon(k)ey business involved as usual, and THIS, causes the greatest harm of all to Judaism.
27. my new kashrut rulings
rav kesef bar mamon   (06.15.06)
1. shnitzel is forbidden as the breading covers the meat and someone, god forbid, may think it is eggplant and put cheese on it 2. Only Jews whose families settled in Broooklyn before the second world war can mix carbonated water and milk as their tradition goes back generations and has been documented in The Jewish Press...for the rest of us it is a custom of the gentiles even when fox's U-bet syrup is used 3. Food cooked by men is forbidden as it is well known that male cooks are homosexual and therefore they might add bodily secretions to the food 4. Food cooked by women is forbidden as one might derive hana-ah (satisfaction/pleasure) from the food and that might lead to sexual temptation and promiscuity with the cook 5. Food cooked by yeshiva students (neither male nor female) is permissable though unedible, as is there teachings which is as the talmud taught equivalent to the pits of pomegranites
