you are so ignorant that you do not even know the correct expression. persona non grata!!
32. Kate, #19, you're not Jewish are you?
Kate's friend ,   England   (06.22.06)
Shill.
33. I hope Miriam told the president to get stuffed
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (06.22.06)
But I'm sure she was too polite to do so. Incidentally, how come this seemingly obnoxious Dorit has a British passport? Oh, sorry, silly question, I've just thought of one or two other obnoxious women who doubtless have British passports.
34. #21
Intedi Nensak ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (06.22.06)
She's not an icelandic citizen, she cannot use an icelandic passport. Iceland isn't a scandinavian country, it's a nordic country but not a scandinavian one. Just like Finland. if you're ever in Scandinavia try to remember that actually cuz it can piss people off here to mix them up hehe. While antisemitism is an increasing problem in the nordic region, it's hardly as bad as in the US, UK or France. #29 Iceland is a piss ant country? Unless you live in Luxembourg or Norway i can assure you that the standard of living is lower in your country, Iceland is so peaceful that they don't even need an army. they've got no enemies. that seems to me like a country to envy, not one to brush off as a piss ant country. There's always two sides of every story, according to icelandic media the guards ridiculed her and made fun of Iceland as they held her at the airport. If that was indeed the case then Israel should fall flat and give a full apology to the state of Iceland and Mrs Moussaieff, if they haven't already. It really is no way to treat the first lady of a friendly nation. You don't even treat the head of state of a hostile nation that way. #33 Her family moved to England when she was young, she hasn't lived in Israel for over 30 years.
35. The real issue
Ed ,   Pittsburgh, USA   (06.22.06)
Actually it seems that the letter writers here have missed the real issue. The real issue is that Israel requires anyone who ever was an Israeli citizen to travel with an Israeli passport. No other advanced country that views citizenship a positive desireable privilege does this. If a person had Israeli citizenship and acquires a different citizenship by emigrating to and living and working in another country there is NO JUSTIFICATION to insist that this person enter/exit Israel with an Israeli passport. The fact that Israel does this only suggests that Israelis are jealous of people who have managed to get rid of their Israeli citizenship or that they view Israeli citizenship as a burden that you should retain forever. Note that even while former citizens of Israel are required to enter/exit Israel with an Israeli passport they are not permitted to vote in Israeli elections so it is clear that this requirement is not a manifestation of true citizenship. Before someone jumps up and down and says "all countries require this"...that is NOT TRUE OF ADVANCED COUNTRIES. It is not true of the U.S., Canada, U.K., Hungary, what ever. Former Israelis who have a new citizenship should not be required to travel to Israel with an Israeli passport. Quite the contrary by doing so should be viewed as a renunciation of Israeli citizenship and the Israeli passport should be taken away from them....that is only if having an Israeli passport is a positive thing that Israelis value.

"Unless you live in Luxembourg or Norway i can assure you that the standard of living is lower in your country" Perhaps you haven't read the newspapers recently, but the Icelandic economy is heading for the rocks fast. "Iceland is so peaceful that they don't even need an army. they've got no enemies. that seems to me like a country to envy, not one to brush off as a piss ant country." Neither does Sweden. You haven't fought a war in nearly 200 years. The flip side of that is that you haven't had the guts as a nation to stand up and be counted when millions of your neighbours were being murdered. Nor did you have the moral fortitude to do anything but collaborate with the Nazis. Beside, there's a lot more to this than wealth and peace - culture for example. What normal person for example would leave London, New York, Paris or La for the blandness and sterility of Stockholm? "according to icelandic media the guards ridiculed her and made fun of Iceland as they held her at the airport." And we should believe the viciously anti-Israeli media of Iceland why exactly? "if that was indeed the case then Israel should fall flat and give a full apology to the state of Iceland and Mrs Moussaieff" The very minute that Iceland apologises for its anti-Semitic policies during the Holocaust. "Her family moved to England when she was young, she hasn't lived in Israel for over 30 years" What difference does that make? A famous English judge, Lord Denning once said: "Be you ever so high, the law is always above you." She would do well to fully comprehend the meaning of those words before she lets her nation down by throwing anti-Semitic insults at the citizens of Israel.
37. What the hell is iceland?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (06.22.06)
Why do we even have diplomatic relations with that place? And that bich married to the president should be declared personna non grata here.
38. "This is why everyone hates jews"
Uzziel   (06.22.06)
Because the whole State backs a "modest"border patrol officer for doing her job in a proffesional way? So be it.
39. who is she?
kuppy ,   israel   (06.22.06)
>>>"This is about to become a serious diplomatic incident,” Moussaieff said. “This is why everyone hates Jews."<<< what a stupid woman who thinks the whole world revolves around her. do the people here a favour and stay in iceland, maybe that way you can avoid a repeat of this incident.
40. how odd..
marianne ,   colorado, usa   (06.23.06)
She's married to the president of Iceland and is not a citizen of that country? very peculiar...
41. Great Story
Mike ,   Chicago   (06.23.06)
I feel bad for the passport control. I feel like a wonderful person. Its great to know about the jerk. I hope it is true. She sounds like a barrel of laughs I think I will google her. She needs a fan club. She must be really rich or beautiful.
42. ICELANDIC SWEATERS ITCH LIKE CRAZY
DEBRA ,   USA   (06.23.06)
ICELAND. ISN'T THAT WHERE THEY MAKE BIG, ITCHY WOOL SWEATERS THAT ALL LOOK THE SAME. THEY ARE SO ITCHY NOBODY CAN WEAR THEM. MAYBE THE SWEATERS MADE HER SO BITCHY.
43. She also threatened not to visit Israel again. Big deal.
Ron ,   LA   (06.23.06)
Apparently this lady is dyslectic. “ In recent years she has helped present Icelandic culture abroad.” You know, fist fighting after too much booz. What else is there to do? This is cultural wasteland after all... Thanks for shawing us your culture...She also threatened not to visit Israel again. Big deal. We are very scared. What else she gonna convert to catholicism? Shows you what kind of creature. One exident in the airport and she boycott the whole country. Piece of crap. Apparently she is from very rich family. Spoiled brat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorrit_Moussaieff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shlomo_Moussaieff
44. #35 = YOU ARE DEAD WRONG
RON ,   NJ   (06.23.06)
My fellow American Ed would have you believe that every "advanced" country permits its citizens to travel with any passport they own. I'm a dual US-Canada citizen, and guess what? Please read the following copied directly from http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/regional/regional_1170.html : " If you are a dual U.S./Canadian citizen you should always present yourself as a Canadian citizen when entering Canada. However, U.S. citizens should use their U.S. passports when entering or leaving the United States." Or is Canada not "advanced" ?
45. #1 What a name!

The French have nothing on YOU! As far as stupid names go... "Snorri Snorkelson"! LOL!
46. #36 Kate of Londonistan
Intedi Nensak ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (06.23.06)
Well, perhaps it is, they're doing an "America" in Iceland right now borrowing like crazy like there is no tomorrow. I can't say for certain the icelandic economy can handle this, but you can't say either that it can't. I don't feel the least bit ashamed that we stayed neutral during the war, sucks for you if you think we did the wrong thing, we don't care. Our goverment has responsibilities to no one else than the people of Sweden, it would be completely insane for them to go willingly into a war that we would lose and suffer a lot worse from than the UK ever did. We were a strategic country with resources wanted by both sides, no matter who invaded us first the other side would instantly turn our country into dust to keep the other side from gaining access to our huge iron fields. There's no shortage of culture here, with all due respect London is the crappiest city i've ever visited in my life and really isn't the best choice if you're trying to make your argument work. Stockholm may not be anything extraordinary in your opinion, but it sure beats the hell out of London any day. the only thing London has on us is size, naturally a city with a population almost as big as our entire country will have a lot of concentrated "culture" inside it, but overall London is smelly, expensive, run down and simply ugly. Nice people though, not counting you. Since when did Icelandic media become viciously anti-Israeli? I'm curious, can you read Icelandic? can you name the name of any paper there at all? (i can already tell you that the answer is No, you cannot, unless you use google or wikipedia). Iceland had no anti-Semitic policies during the holocaust, it had no policies at all, it was a colony of Denmark and then you annoying crooked-teeth brits decided to occupy it. They took the opportunity to declare independence right in the middle of raging war when you didn't really have time to go and reclaim it. Lord Denning can't be that famous, never heard of the guy, but in Oliver Twist-land i guess everything evolves around you so you probably think people actually care what someone in your crowded little kingdom has to say. The UK along with France probably has the biggest problem with antisemitism in the EU, clean up your own backyard before lashing out against other countries. I'm no expert on Israeli law, but i find it very hard to believe that it can actually be accepted to insult a head of state and his wife in such a way, i realize it was an airport guard and not anyone in the goverment doing this, but it's still a huge embaressment when a state visitor gets this kind of treatment and it sure isn't very good advertisement. I just read that Israel issued an official apology for this, and i'm glad. I like Israel, and Dorrit Moussaieff is a hugely popular person in Iceland, this certainly could have damaged the view of Israel in northern Europe. as israel tries to attract more tourists, it would be a shame if a clumsy airport security person scared off all the northern europeans and their fat wallets from coming.

I may be ignorant but I am not afraid to give my name you sad coward and I know who I distrust, and dislike. YOU are undoubtedly a hate merchant and are included. Pity you couldn't address the issues at hand- yet another of your weaknesses?
48. A future vision
Jon ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (06.23.06)
I long for the day when a Jew can get in an arguement with someone, or maybe even be a little rude, and one won't go down the road of pointing out the world's hatred for an entire people. Can't two people just argue, and that's it!?
49. An hour and a half over a technical point is plain RUDE.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (06.23.06)
The last time I left Israel, they searched everything in my bags for an hour. They went through the pages of every magazine. That was not rude because that was for SECURITY. If they had kept me there for an hour because they didn't like my comments on Ynet, that would be RUDE and STUPID. Maybe I just looked like a suspicious American terrorist in my skirt and blouse. Next time I think I'll wear a scuba wetsuit with a few fish tucked in and scare the hell out of them.
50. She is anti Semitic "Jew" + link
Ron ,   LA   (06.23.06)
She feels a lot more like an Icelander than she does an Israeli. "If something bad were to happen to Iceland, it would hurt me personally. I never felt that about any country before. My whole life I was like a gypsy. Even though I lived in England for many years, I didn't have patriotic feelings for that country. And I always had problems with Israel." Why? "Israel is not a democracy. It is a religious dictatorship. When I visit Israel with friends, I can't have a cup of coffee with milk after having a hamburger in the hotel. I can't travel on Saturday, I can't eat lobster. The only hope for Israel is to separate religion and state and for the Haredim [the ultra-Orthodox population] to start working instead of learning all day. In Israel, everyone, especially those Haredim, thinks he has something coming, that someone else will pay. We are setting the Palestinians a bad example. "The view in the world is that Muslim fundamentalism is bad, but who killed Yitzhak Rabin? A Jew. Our trouble comes not from the Palestinians but from our own people. What's the difference between the demand that a Muslim woman wear a head covering and the demand that a Jewish woman wear a wig? In the end, there will be more religious people than secular people in Israel, and they will impose their will and Israel will revert to the Middle Ages. I am religious in my soul, I just don't like the religious coercion. Even my grandfather in Jerusalem would always tell me, `You can't do that, it's Shabbat.' If that were to happen today, I would do the exact opposite." http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:WdshdtoUCR0J:www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml%3FitemNo%3D378213+Dorrit+Moussaieff&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=26
51. If the president's wife is Israeli, she knows the law
AK   (06.23.06)
Her comment was very inappropriate for politician's wife and for an Israeli. Israelis have nothing to apologize for. The rude woman can always petition to relinquish her Israeli citizenship, if she does not to wish to carry the israeli passport.
52. Please...
Noa ,   Israel   (06.23.06)
Being married to an important ;) political figure does not place you above the law. Also, I have an American passport and when I unknowingly tried to enter the states with an expired passport they would not let me enter for over an hour. And then I showed my Israeli passport and they said "where is your visa?' Of course I don't need a visa cause I am an American citizen but it was technical and I understood. I hope Israel doesn't apologize for being criticized for employing laws similar to EVERY OTHER COUNTRY. Maybe people hate the Jews NOT becuase of their normal actions...but because of the way their normal actions are irrationaly criticized.
53. Clash of the Arrogants
Ragusa   (06.23.06)
Must have been great fun wathcing: one arrogant islandic with feelings of superiority (which is very rare) having a shouting match with arrogant Israeli with feelings of superiority (which is very normal). Mrs. President behavied badly und unworthy, Ben Gurion Security behaived as they always do.
54. #49 The fact is US sends ...
Ron ,   LA   (06.23.06)
..their personal to learn from Israel. No other way around. In LAX you see more and more Israeli type of treatment. I was asked the same questions in LAX as in Ben Gurion airport. Still Israeli security works much more efficiently than their American colleagues. At least in Israel they don't ask you to remove your shoes. Dorrit actually is a provocateur she is anti- Semitic " Jew" who hates Israel. She claims Israel is not a democracy. Look at the link I provided. As you know the law is the law. As in many countries security people are obligated to follow the law to the letter. I am ex Israeli officer with fluent Hebrew and still I am questioned thoroughly. I don't mind. Security in Israel is the best in the world. They wouldn't do any stupid things if it wasn't necessary. The " stupid" questions you are asked are asked to examine your body language to see if you are hiding something. They don't care about your answers. Lots of ignorant people start to judge without understanding basics of security. There is not a coincidence Greek and Chineese hire Israel to help in secure their Olympics. Dorrit is an idiot. Like all rich brats they want special treatment. I am sure the young female guard didn't know she is president's wife. Not many people know about Iceland and the fact that it is an independent country. People think it is some kind of land close to the North Pole with some drunken fishermen ( this is not far from truth) She is from wealthy family but Bucharian witch is very low status. For her to be a wife of a president is a big honor. She has money, but now she has a pedigree. Good deal for her. Bucharians I know like to become "Europeans" because to be " Bucharian" is not prestigious for them. It is like somebody who is rich peasant, coming to the bid city and marries up to get better title.
55. Why this vitriolic debate
Halldor ,   Iceland   (06.23.06)
I'm an Icelander and I stumped upon this debate which amazed me. Dorrit Moussaieff is one person, that obviously behaved rather irrationally and you can criticize that. But to lash out against a whole country like Iceland is a bit weird (especially given that Dorrit is not icelandic). Moreover, to suggest that Icelanders, or Icelandic media is anti-semitic is ridicilous. Unless supporting a palestinian state (along with Israel) is considered to be anti-semite. However, I thought that was the position of the current government of Israel anyway. Why this anger?
56. Normal Procedure !
Sarah   (06.23.06)
As a USA citizen, that law exists in the USA as well... when leaving and entering the borders of the USA one must use his/her American passport. Exactly the same as using your Israeli passport upon entering and leaving Israel for Israeli citizens. This is a well know law, which Dorit as a head of state's wife should have known about it ! education is key !
57. # 54 Ron
yakov shani ,   IL   (06.23.06)
Bucharian is a very low status. What sort of an idiotic statement is that to make ?
58. The whole story
Gunnlaugur S. Ó ,   Icelend   (06.23.06)
There are a lot of negative things I can say about the President of Iceland and his wife, but the story is not complete in this article. When the lady in passport control asked Dorrit about who she was she explained and said she was the wife of the Prsident of Iceland. Passport control had replied: "There is no President in Iceland, Iceland has a king". The fact that Dorrit did not follow law is a good reason for stopping her, but there is no need to be rude.
59. "What the hell is Iceland"
Eggert ,   Iceland   (06.23.06)
"Why do you have a diplomatic relation with this place" Well because Iceland WAS the first country in the world to recognise Israel as a country. Why we did it I dont know but YOU sure show that we should have NOT.
60. "politician's"
Eggert ,   Iceland   (06.23.06)
Our president is not a politician, he is elected by the people of Iceland and he is not in any politician party. Insulting president of Iceland is insulting to the people of Iceland.
