1. an illegal and a short-sighted action
Daniel ,   North Tel Aviv   (06.29.06)
What are the charges against those people? why are they been arrested now en-mass all of a sudden? clearly this is a knee jerk reaction and is illegal under international law. This action will play to the hands of extremists in Hamas as those politicians are the moderate elements. This means that Hamas will become more radical and attacks against Israel will increase. This harms israel on the short and long terms. I said many times, the problm with the palestinians is political and we need to find a political solution. Talk to Hamas moderates, otherwise, you will end up with Alzarqawi-like leaders Daniel, voice of reason
2. They deserve a fair trial
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (06.29.06)
followed by a fast hanging!
3. Go Israel!
Aslak ,   Finland   (06.29.06)
4. WE should throw the book at them........
Uzi ,   Beit Shemesh   (06.29.06)
I'm glad that the orange beard ass-clown terrorist is behind bars, he should be tried for crimes against nature for painting his ugly beard orange ( the color of Gush Katif) and for not leaving Yerushalayim when he was told to.
5. Waste of time
Francois ,   Paris & Montréal   (06.29.06)
No trial, let's hang them.
6. I don't get it
MK ,   USA   (06.29.06)
I don't understand how that one Hamas minister has an orange beard. I can't get it.

Your latte in that cute Sheinkin cafe is getting cold, Daniel. Focus on that. You sound like the Yossis.
8. Is Daniel really in TA?
Arie   (06.29.06)
Probably not. Probably still at home somewhere in britain. That said, (s)he knows quite well that a "hamass moderate" is an inherent oxymoron!
9. And still no death penalty? WHY??
Arie   (06.29.06)

Mike ,   Atlanta, USA   (06.29.06)
Daniel, voice of reason, judges these actions before viewing any evidence in either direction. If you only accept the military intelligence that reaches the press, then you can only have a dim opinion of reality. We do not know what evidence the intel corp has gathered to date. Make your pronouncements later, Daniel.
11. To #1 Daniel
Plaintalk ,   Brooklyn, NY   (06.29.06)
Hamas moderate? Isn't that a contradiction in terms? A member of a group sworn to the destruction of the State of Israel is no moderate, regardless of whether they wear a tie, speak the Queen's English, or are clean-shaven. They have tacitly (or worse) agreed to the kidnapping of a member of the IDF. If the soldier is not returned alive and well, they are parties to a murder, in which case they should be tried, imprisoned, and the keys thrown away. It's unfortunate that capital punishment is not an option under the Israeli legal system - a public dismemberment might cause their colleagues to think again about kidnapping an Israeli soldier.
12. string them up and dismember.
naro ,   jerusalem   (06.29.06)
Only such actions can stop this 60 years old wars. enough of the niceties of he law. they dont work on sworn enemies, just prolonging the conflicet.
13. These savages are being treated
Floyd   (06.29.06)
far more fairly than they treated the kidnapped victims.
14. INT. HYPOCRISY
JOE ,   GB   (06.29.06)
DEFENSE MUNISTER EH A POLITICAL FIGURE? WAS ABOUT TO BE ARRESTED IN UK ON WAR CRIMES, SO WHATS WRONG ARRESTING HAMMAS TERRORISTS
15. Daniel #1 - the voice of reason?
Zionist ,   Israel   (06.29.06)
In the Hamas charter, it calls for the destruction of Israel. The thing is, it doesn't speak about political destruction, as you mention, but the obliteration of Israel by Islam: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." Now you are wrong on two points. The first being that politics is the only thing driving Hamas to carry out terror attacks against Israel. Hamas is clearly a fundamentalist Islamic organization, therefore it runs on fundamentalist Islamic principles. The second point being that these "ministers" who you claim to be moderate believe in these principles, otherwise they wouldn't be in the high-ranking positions that they occupy. What are the charges against these people you ask? Well, for starters they are leading the Palestinians down the path of destruction with calls to obliterate Israel. The rest I'm sure you can figure out yourself.
16. makes me sick
the weinstiens   (06.29.06)
I believe this was a very short sighted move by isreal. They are simply trying to provoke the arabs so they have an excuse to attack (look at the recent provocation with syria). Yes they have a right to defend themselves, but military actions such as these are attempts to beat the palestianians into submission. No meaningful diplomatic solution can be honoured or even drafted under such conditions.
17. I'll be happy to be the Hangman

Howard Bloom, in his book "Evolution of the Global Brain" wrote: "Groups under threat constrict. They do it to gain leverage and force. Toss bacteria onto a surface so hard that feeding becomes almost impossible, and they'll abandon individual freedom, pull together their members, and form a tight-knit phalanx which can carve through the obstacles around it like a blade. Human groups in times of trouble stiffen up their unity, squelch ideas, rally 'round their leaders, and spit out those who fail to ape the top dog faithfully. Group members project their own forbidden emotions onto others, and in their ferocity become enforcers for the group's norms. They spot the smallest sin among their fellows and punish it intolerantly. In biology, emergency measures like these have a tendency to cut two ways. In short jolts they produce bursts of power. But used in the long run, they destroy. The oneness which gives society the punch of a bayonet produces over the course of time a paralyzing rigidity." It's high time that the Israelis realized that the language of force DOES NOT WORK. Terrorism is a mindset. It is not a tangible thing we can bomb. When people have more hopes in life, they naturally abandon terror. But it seems to me Israel is boosting their anger by trying to stifle them, and hence it is creating more and more violence.
19. Questions That Demand Answers
Adina kUtnicki ,   US   (06.29.06)
How many dead Jews had to pile up before the OLmert regime (and the Sharon regime) arrested these Hamas terrorists? How can it be that they were allowed ! to roam free in Israel (and beyond) until now? These are the questions that need urgent answers.
20. A sense of releif
Laughing ,   Out Loud   (06.29.06)
Finally. Action has been taken against the two mouthed vermon known as the Pali MK's. Abu Tir especially, I've got an extreme left wing friend who defends this clown constantly, I'll see if he wants to fly from Rochester NY and be his defense attorny. lol That's my favorite part. In jail, in the judicial system, where the whole world can see their crimes, and it is documented and a matter of record. It makes me feel so good. A matter of reference to expose the fact that any peace plan signed by them is a farce, and that the world will see what verbal polution the Pali people are capable of.

"Hamas will become more radical and attacks against Israel will increase" Like, you think they aren't doing their best these days, Mr. "Voice of Reason"?
23. #16-Sounds like you were sick to start with
Arie   (06.29.06)
You are right-the muHAMedans attack on the OTHER SIDE OF THE Green Line and Israel is the provocateur?
24. #1 Daniel shaking in his boots
HBendor ,   New York USA   (06.29.06)
Well friend, (Daniel please check if your pants are wet) we are all lucky that Israel is a Democracy and people of your stripe can openly challenge the direction of the Israeli Government’s decisions exactly as the Arab enemy take advantage of that same democratic process to deliver their hourly, daily blows. I am longing for the time of the Roman Empire... would love to attach 'Barbarossa' to four different horses and whip them in four different directions (quartering) for the cold blooded murder of the 18 year old French Jews Eliyahu Asheri .
25. Arresting Hamas members
Anne ,   Bourenmouth Uk   (06.29.06)
I think this is the best thing Israel could have done. We all know the leaders of these terror organisations are cowards, and that they use others to do the kiling and dying. Now that they face long terms in jail, they will think again before spouting off . It has to be the case that Israel has information on them, and no one can argue that their actions, in particular when they ask for prisoner swaps, are hostile acts of war. Yay Israel, the spirit of Sharon and Dyan live on still!

Don't shut me up. This is a classic case of "give them a finger...". Sit there in the US with your total lack of understanding of our neighborhood.

And by the way, this ideology has NOTHING to do with poverty. It has EVERYTHING to do with blind Jew-hatred, selfishness, greed and an inability to compromise.
28. #16 and 18
Ram ,   London   (06.29.06)
#16. Whilst Israel may beat Palestinians into submission, given half a chance, Palis would beat Israelis to a pulp. You seem to have missed out on all the efforts Israel has made for a diplomatic solution. Wake up Weinsteins ifindeed that is your true name! #18. How you come to your conclusions using such a sophisticated path of reasoning beats me. Maybe you are thinking too hard. Try this simple thought: "you try to extend your hand of friendship for 6 decades to someone who only has the mindset of killing you, what's the solution?" Certainly it is not in your post. Endless efforts by Israel and the international community, who have poured billions, to prop up the Palis have shown no results. Sorry, you and Daniel get no credit points here.
29. What about the arab MK traitors?
Ram ,   London   (06.29.06)
