One of the Palestinian Fatah leaders said this morning that "there is no government" in response to the arrest of Hamas leaders and politicians. There hasn't been a genuine Palestinian government since Sharon came to power, and perhaps before, but most certainly not since Arafat died. Palestinians need a leader they can trust, not a dubious character like Abu Quisling Abbas, who is a wonderful leader for Israel but not for the Palestinian people. Palestinian leadership has been undermined mainly by the continued expansion of settlements since Rabin was murdered. There is talk talk talk of peace negotiations, but all people see is more and more settlements and settlers. Palestinians have absolutely no faith in the "peace process" or in their current leadership. It all looks like a confidence trick. There are two ways to solve this: 1) Israel should re-occupy all the territory. It couldn't stop Qassams when it occupied Gaza before, maybe it can now. 2) Free Marwan Barghouti and stop immediately all settlement activity. This might restore support of the Palestinian people for the "peace process."
