1. Every Thing has a Price ? that Price is NO ONE negotiates
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (07.06.06)
with Terrorists I understand his emotions - but NOT his demands to negotiate with a Terrorist organization this will NOT bring his son home - he's naive - it is a desperate act only. But it will put the entire Israeli population at risk to be kidnapped in the future
2. This is the typical frame of mind of a French Citizen
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (07.06.06)
May be he should go back to France it is the Run and Cut and wave the white flag of surrender to Terrorists
3. It would be idiotic to negotiate
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (07.06.06)
This would be the worst mistake and cause heartaches to other Israeli families whose sons or daughters would be kidnapped by the PA if Israel was to negotiate
4. #1: If you were captured, do you prefer to die or negociate?
Henry ,   NY   (07.06.06)
5. attention military leaders
naftali ,   us   (07.06.06)
ignore him. in a sane world, one would think his personal relationship to the issue makes him uniquely unqualified to dictate the military policy concerning it. National security is the primary objective of a moral military policy. May G-d comfort him and all of Israel
6. he cares about his son but what about about others?
michael ,   tel aviv & london   (07.06.06)
negotiating would mean more kidnappings and more people in this family's horrible situation. I understand his pain but he should not wish to bring it on others. Israel's policy was to never negotiate these things and then we tried 'negotiation' and since then there have been continual attempts to kidnap.
7. Not On Our Backs!
Hard Boiled   (07.06.06)
Negotiating gives them a pavlovian reinforcement for kidnapping. If we do what Gilad's father wants then we put countless more Israeli families at almost certain risk of being in the same situation. I want his son returned, but not at the expense of the safety of his compatriots.
8. How about some empathy?
Siala ,   US   (07.06.06)
Whether you agree or not, what else should a loving father say about his son? You would all do anything to save your own child in the same situation.
9. You don't negotiate with savages
Brod ,   USA   (07.06.06)
You don't negotiate with savages. You hunt them down and give them a piece of their pie.
10. No negotiations
Mike ,   Israel   (07.06.06)
I would gladly change places with Gilad, my opion would be the same i would not want my Gov to negotiate for my freedom rather i would expect the IDF to come in and try to rescue me and or start taking out whole masses of people so that these animals understand once and for all that there is a price to pay when they hurt one Israeli hair, that price would be so high even for them, in other words for evey terosit the IDF should take out all members in his or hers family with out question i guarantee you not to many of them would come on t.v to bragg that they are myrters. God be with you Gilad
11. dear Siala
naftali ,   us   (07.06.06)
Please understand that We do Empathize. It is,as you point out, clear that many-if not most-loving fathers would say what he said, but this very fact makes the statement utterly unnews worthy. Those who have the national security of the Jewish people as their primary concern fear that pleas for empathy in connection with military policy may G-d forbid influence such policy. Therefore it is important, we feel, For us to publicly "Plea" for putting things into perspective
12. #1/2, any truth is lost in your endless vitriol
Shuki   (07.06.06)
13. #2 evil statement - deserves public apology
Rustum ,   London, UK   (07.06.06)
You truly are an evil woman - devoid of a shred of sympathy for the father of a kidnapped person. Would you care to go to israel (oh, i forgot, you don't travel there because they don't want you) and tell him face to face that he should "go back to France and wave the white flag of surrender". In all the nasty, vile, abusive postings you have written, this one of yours takes the Nobel Prize for low down evil. You should post a public apology. No wonder you live in Swizterland - as many people have pointed out, if you lived in Israel you'd be in administrative detention with all those future husbands of yours, Mrs Amayreh. Your post was sick, sick, sick.
14. #10 Stockholm syndrome in reverse
Rustum ,   London, UK   (07.06.06)
Good bit of writing from mein Kampf in your post when you exhort the IDF to "start taking out whole masses of people so that these animals understand once and for all " The killing of the innocents, eh? That's a pretty humane thing for you to state. As for offering yourself in place of Gilad, your willingness to face certain death makes you a candicate for istishhad. It is thus not only all on one side that people wish to die, according to your stated aims. You must have been born in the US - as you certainly write like one of those "geek-killers" of Vietnam days.
15. Gilad
JW   (07.06.06)
Sadly, Gilad has become a pawn in the political process. The IDF operations have not been such as to forward negotiation. They are designed to destroy the legitimately elected Government with whom they should be talking.
16. Selfishness and stupidity kills!!
Shalom ,   Jeusalem, Palestine   (07.06.06)
Negotiating with the Palestinians would “put the whole nation at risk??” Isn’t that funny and even stupid?! What do you suggest then? Killing 1 Palestinian every hour to make them love you? It’s like fucking for virginity!! One single captured Israeli SOLDIER justifies ALL what Israel is doing! How about the 10,000 Palestinians captured by Israel? Including 500 kids (under 18) and tens of women? Don’t you think that the Palestinians have a good reason to do whatever they want to release their prisoners from your jails? The soldier’s abductors said that they would not harm him and will treat him with all respect. Don’t you read this message as a message of peace?! These people aren’t murderers, but have a just cause and reasonable goal: to bring their beloved ones back home. If they were just murderers the soldier would have been killed along time ago. Obviously all what is going on in Gaza has nothing to do with the poor soldier who was pushed there by his commanders, but it is Israel’s agenda to destroy the Palestinian government. Stop promoting blood and war… try to understand your enemy. Peace be upon ALL of us.
17. #14 Rustum
Mike ,   Israel   (07.06.06)
Actualy born and raised in Israel and damn proud of it. Mass killing is what they understand i.e buss bombings night clubs, and eating establishments. Or do you not concider that killing of the innocents? Certain death awaits all of us friend even you, and i'm not cetain being in the hand of teroist is certain death. And by the way you said "geek killers" i think you meant gook killer, i served in lebonon and gaza and still do and from my experiance the only way to get them to bow there heads is take the ones they care about around them and take them out. Now your educated to make an opinion of me.
18. NEGOTIATIONS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION !
Ryan ,   Chicago IL, USA   (07.06.06)
Israel's military might and technology will not be able to free the abducted soldier Shalit. The Israel security and occupation forces do not know where he is being kept at the moment. Even if they find out where he is, they won't be able to rescue him. Negotiations will be the only way to free the soldier. Israel has to free some Palestinians who have been kept in prison for years without a charge or conviction.
19. #8 He'd be in living hell whenever there was a kidnapping!
michael ,   tel aviv & london   (07.06.06)
plenty of people here are expressing sympathy but fortunately not agreement with the father. I have four children and I would never ask (and not for myself either) that thousands be released from prison in order to save them or myself. It is not the release of the prisoners that is the main issue but the precedent. Would I be able to live with myself if dozens of other people got kidnapped because my son or daughter was released? I would suffer a living hell every time someone was kidnapped feeling that I was in some way responsible.
20. #15 - and what should Israel talk to Hamas about ?
michael ,   tel aviv & london   (07.06.06)
21. '17
Rustum ,   London, UK   (07.06.06)
Sad to read that you have lost every last vestige of humanity and that your only pleasure in life is "taking them out". Remind me not to read any more of your murderous posts. In any other country, you'd be in jail for murder.
22. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't
Daniel ,   Australia   (07.06.06)
Decisions, Decisions.... Don't insult Noam Shalit. He and his family are going through a difficult and trying time in their lives. He may have views which we dont all agree with, but as the father, he is entitled to those views. However, negotiating with terrorists may bring his son home, but it will only damage the nation and make Israel look weak.
23. to every1 that doesnt want to negotiate
darryl ,   israel   (07.06.06)
put yourself in this fathers shoes if it was your kid wouldnt you want to negotiate for his release
24. to #21, Rustum
someone ,   Tel Aviv   (07.06.06)
Not all Israelies are hatefull and ignorant as most talkbacks here...there are Israelies that want to live in peace with their Palestinian neighbours....
25. I can see the Father's Point
Annie ,   Ofarim, Israel   (07.06.06)
I have two sons. I don't know if I could survive the loss of one of them. I don't know how I would cope if I was in the Shalit family's position. I would fight tooth and nail to get my son back. This is why parents can't be part of negotiations. We are too emotionally involved. Our instincts are to protect our children, to fight for them. Our fear of loosing our precious chilren, our love makes us too vulnerable. Oh, please G-d, return Gilad to his family, safe and sound. Please give his family strength to cope. Please give our leadership wisdom and strenght. They sure need it.
