1. Why the Hostages?
Dave Levi ,   Burbank. USA   (07.09.06)
Since Israel's harming those Hamas legislators (deny it or not), will only serve to seriously lessen any credibility israel has remaining in the world, why were they taken prisoner? And what will Israel finally do with them? It's obvious, that this was an attempt to bring down the Palestinian government, in favor of the more moderate Fatah. I generally agree with Israels actions, whether during the Bibi administration, Sharon and now Olmert, but this goes beyond my rationale. Now, Israel is stuck with them..and it costs to feed and house. This was a mistake I believe..and a bad one. It seems Israel can take 2 steps forward, but 3steps backwards. It should have given (initially) reasons for the latest incursion as the freeing of the soldier AND to stop Kassam rockets. Unlike Bush and Iraq, Israel's reasons for such a huge operation are, well, excessive, IF, the Kassams aren't included. But, even kidnapping is justified in all Palestinian (and supporters) quarters, as are suicide bombings of innocent Jews. JEWS THAT IS.

Maybe Snow White and the seven Dwarfs? Or for those who celebrate Christmas: Introducing Santa's Elves. However they try to paint themselves, they're still enemies of Israel, of the Jewish people and they are still terrorists and supporters of terror.
6. Mental Health Warning:
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (07.09.06)
Mental Health Warning: Hamas has been known to suffer from memory loss, mass confusion and psychosis. To treat symptoms, apply large doses of reality, faith and common sense ........ and do some hard (A$$) but-kicking here
7. Freeing "palestinian" prisoners ensures more kidnappings.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (07.09.06)
A crazy "palistinian" was quoted as saying they have to get something back for the soldier, that is how it is in the middle east. OK, raid baby assad's house and see what the terrorists say about that kidnapping. The UN would scream, and the US and the Brits and the French, and so on, but there is no worldwide screaming for a Jew.

9. Gaza Campaign
Peter Dan ,   Toronto, CanadA   (07.09.06)
The push into Gaza has been very successful so far. The IDF was able to inflict a large number of casualties in the ranks of the Palestinian militants without incuring too many civilian casualties. Even the call on Israel by the UN not to punish civilians is good, because it forces them to face the need to confront Palestinian policies of targeting Israeli civilians. It may however be time to withdraw from Gaza for now. To re-invade is more effective than staying given Palestinian capabilities for defense vs. attack. The Gaza/West Bank campaign has left enough bargaining chips in Israeli hands without a continued presence in Gaza to allow for diplomacy to take over. If Israeli forces need to return, the Palestinians are likely to place more militants in harms way to prevent it, exposing themselves to even more casualties.

13. Hamas seeks Iran missiles that could reach Tel Aviv
(07.09.06)
Hamas seeks Iran missiles that could reach Tel Aviv SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM Friday, July 7, 2006 TEL AVIV — Israeli military sources said the Palestinian Authority is seeking to acquire medium-range rockets from Iran. The sources said the PA has appealed to Iran and Hizbullah to ship either the Fajr-4 or Fajr-5 rocket to the Gaza Strip. The sources said the Hamas-led PA believes that the Fajr, smuggled from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula to the Gaza Strip, could help deter an Israeli ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. "Hamas badly wants to change the balance of power with Israel and believes that the Fajr could be the answer," a military source said. On Wednesday, the PA continued missile attacks against Ashkelon, the second largest city in southern Israel, Middle East Newsline reported. An enhanced Kassam-class, short-range missile slammed into downtown Ashkelon and eight people were treated for shock. "The Palestinians are concerned about Israel's steady incursion in the Gaza Strip," the source said. "The Israeli attacks threaten to erode Palestinian capability, which Hamas cannot afford." Israeli military analyst Amir Oren said Hamas plans to target Israeli military bases and cities north of Ashkelon. Oren, regarded as having close ties to military intelligence, cited Ashdod and the Israeli Air Force base at Hatzor. "Hamas has three goals in its rocket development plans: range, warhead and shape," Oren wrote in the Israeli daily Haaretz. "If the Palestinians manage to smuggle a few Fajr-type surface-to-surface rockets from Lebanon or Iran, they will be able to reach Tel Aviv." In 2006, Hizbullah acquired the Fajr-5, the sources said. The rocket was said to have a range of up to 200 kilometers, capable of striking Tel Aviv from the Lebanese border. The Fajr-4 was said to have a range of 75 kilometers. The sources said Hamas leaders have been in close consultation with Iran and Hizbullah since the June 25 attack on an Israeli base near the Gaza Strip, which included the abduction of an Israeli soldier. They said Iranian and Syrian representatives have met Hamas leader Khaled Masha'al, based in Damascus, to discuss tactics in the war against Israel. "Hizbullah has managed to smuggle the Grad [rocket] into the Gaza Strip," a military source said. "There's no reason why they won't try to smuggle the Fajr as well."

15. Muslim Brotherhood by any name
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.09.06)
In Egypt and Jordan, those affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood also ran under innocuous names because the Brotherhood is banned. So too here, Hamas, which once went under the moniker Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood, has chosen the innocuous "List for Change and Reform". Islamists by any other name are still Islamists. They're not fooling anyone.

17. The Prophet Who Seems To Have Seen Today
Jamal Mahmed Kaffir ,   Chicago USA   (07.09.06)
Eons ago, the prophet Amos might have actually been looking at today's news. MAYBE.... Amos 1:3-7 3 Thus saith the L-RD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron: 4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad. 5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the L-RD. 6 Thus saith the L-RD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: 7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof: COULD IT BE???

Yur note was excessive. and I failed to understand what it was all about. You agree with Israel's actions usually? When? When it bombs empty houses or unihabited regions? This action was long overdue. I guess the kidnapping of the soldier may have been the catalyst.. Certainly the Qassams were raining in every day and that did not make a dent in Olmert's hard head. Those ministers which ere taken are all responsible. They can always feed them a few falafel sashed down by some salt water that Arafat was always threatening Israel with. Israel is feeding and watering all the Palestinians anyway per instructions by our dear Dr. Rice. Maybe we should give them a few rice cakes.
21. Of Course They're Not Hamasniks.
Hebrew Language Puri   (07.10.06)
