Shai ,   Israel   (07.10.06)
...the Palis never cared if they'd have a state They care more about dismantling Israel. Otherwise, how do you explain their refusal to share the Holy Land in a way that results in Israel having defensible boundaries?

less land 48 less land 67 less land 73(Syria) less land 2000 This man is correct. Jihad is stubborn, Arab pride is stubborn, and you Pals will just loose more and more. Time for peace, time for you to recognize Israel, but more important, that a Jew has the G-d givin right to breath the same air you do.
4. The World is against the Pal Terror Artists and their bombs

5. And the problem is?
vel ,   decatur ga   (07.10.06)
When your children are taught that their plight is the fault of someone else...when their plight is really that of the pols who have lied to them, their parents, and their grandparents and no one calls what was said lies, there is a problem. When pols and religious leaders put hatred first and good sense second (if at all), there is a problem. But yehudim are small in number and have been targets for several thousand years and fool everyone by not disappearing, there is a problem that the bad guys cannot explain because G-d might just have something to do with it.

Steve ,   USA   (07.10.06)
B"H What we Jews nead to realize is ... that the state is not going to substitute for personal responsiblity. We cannot be begging so much for a Jewish state that we forget that honorable Jews are what secure the region. Focus on welcoming honorable Jews to your homes, Israel. This does much more than a state can ever do for security.

I am happy you start understanding, along with us,that this conflict must end. Not only because Israel will not give up Haifa,Jaffa,Tel Aviv,West Jerusalem and East Jerusalem, but because there are other alternatives to resolv this conflict as trully Human Beings. Why not plan for all to be happy. For us Jews, Judea,Samaria and Gaza are part of our historical land and it is a pain let it go. Palis on the other hand, according to a poll I read recently, don't care about where they exacltly are, but they care much about having their standart of life increased. It is clear both people can not live together ,and it is clear as well that Gaza and WB will not be enough for them in terms of espace, since they procriate speedly and these areas are already packed. So why don't find them a beautiful land,in the imense ME,a land where they can improve freely, far from conflicts. The money that have been spent with this conflict has been a wasted money. Why not apply this money in a heathy and beautiful program for them, in a new land, helping them to star a trully dign life. I really can not understand why keep on this insanity. Israelis have the right to be happy and live free of wars the same as palis. No reasons any more can justify such insanity. Let's all be happy. It is possible,It is not a naive fantasy. And men like you can contribute a lot in this direction. Congratulations!

Michael ,   Austin, TX   (07.10.06)
I agree that this conflict has nothing to do with land. And I also think that the other arabs don't give a crap about the pals....if they did, they would permit them to become citizens of their countries. The fact that they don't permit them to become citizens, and thus possibly lead a productive life, shows that they really don't care....they just want to perpetuate the evil.

a life. Why is it that everytime a sensible Arab speaks up against war with Israel he is automatically an American or Israeli agent. Your mind set is the problem. Until you realize that there are people out there that truly want peace you will be doomed to live in despair and deolation.
14. Unfortunately, the writer and his ilk have no actual power
Josh   (07.10.06)
It's easy to dig up some moderate intellectuals and parade them in front of the media... It allows the left to say "see, there IS someone to talk to!" and the right to say "if people like this actually held power there'd be peace". Trouble is, finding such figures anywhere near a position of authority is an anomaly at best. The leaders whom Israel and West favor are the antithesis of those whom the Palestinians and Arabs favor. Until this is acknowledged, the morass will continue.
15. Ellen rejects peace with Israel
Ellen's spokesmen   (07.10.06)
Ellen calls for all out jihad against the infidel state which is Israel, because blood, fire and rising smoke is the solution to everything, this is what enlightened leftists like Ellen believe, no justice, no peace, the final victory is ours, even at the price of all 2.5 million Palestinians, go on, we will cheer from Britian.

21. it will never be enough for Israel
karim ,   Morocco   (07.11.06)
Recognition of Israel should be put to a vote in all of the Arab world. And I know what the results would be: No. We can repeat these votes every 10 years, and as long as the majority do not want to deal with this Israeli state of oppression and land theft, then there should not be any recognition whatsoever. Let the people decide.
22. To Alan FL
Karim ,   Morocco   (07.11.06)
It is you who thinks he is a sensible Arab...we don't, and we are free to think whatever we want. Its funny how you come lecture us about being doomed to "despair and desolution" when the Jewish people couldn't have a country for 2000 years. Maybe you could explain to us why they were doomed to desolution for 2000 years huh? was it their fault? according to your bigoted views, it must have been the Jewish people fault for living with no state of their own for 2000 years. I wonder what that was. It has only being little more than 50 years since the Israeli oppression started. Don't think it will be 2000 years. The land stealing Zionists and their fanatical supporters will not get away with their crimes. Sooner or later, Palestinians will be set free.

24. Answer to Josh
Hiram Al MAsry ,   tel aviv   (07.11.06)
Josh, As a very short answer to your posting it might be important to try to understand why there are such a limited number of progressist representative of the Arab world . The stablishment of a terror government like Hamas or any other dictatorship in the Middle East are the result of previous autocratic regimes led to power on the basis of Islamic Jihad which encompass the elimination of all the non moslems. The Palestino-palestinian conflict, fanned by hatred for the international successes of the Jews has been ( and still is ) an excuse for trouble and terror. It is a part of the Jihadist view of the 21st century. Short of being able to provide their people with economic growth, it is easier to take their mind away from reality and re-direct it towards a " common ennemy". The Palestino-palestinian conflict cannot and should not be taken as an isolated " problem" . It is not . In the same fashion, 21st century terror is associated ONLY with Jihadist and Jihadistic regimes. Remember that when there is no " ennemy " close enough to fight with, Jihadists create their own, within their own nation. Obscurantism and misuse of any religion has proven along the centuries that it was not able to yield lasting peace and well being and THAT is the problem with Hamas and Palestine . No decision , no choices can EVER be made based upon religion short of leading catastrophies. Hamas is stubborn like all terror organisation and their reduced field of vision does not allow them to realize that short of stopping terror, they will not win anything. The international community , including the arab " nation" is clearly showing that the time has come for changes.

28. #10: Read this comment by another Arab columnist
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (07.11.06)
"Nothing impedes comprehension more than the repetition of ready-made answers. Nothing buries the truth more deeply than the reiteration of expressions committed to memory." Mshari al-Zaidi, Asharq al-Awsat Your response to Mr. Ibrahim demonstrates this kind of mindless response. Anyone who says anything that challenges your world view in the least MUST work for the CIA, because then you don't need to listen to him, or think about the truth in what he writes, or G-d forbid change your own position. Stop and think, for your own sake. Could any of your fellow Arabs/Muslims POSSIBLY be frustrated with someone who demands their support year after year, but says thank-you by supporting Saddam Hussein, Ahmadinejad, al-Zarqawi, Syria's occupation of Lebanon and terrorists who attack Egypt and Jordan? Could any Arab leader or writer, whose public position is that the 1967 borders are the answer, POSSIBLY be frustrated that after Israel GRANTED you the 1967 borders in its west, you immediately turned around and did everything possible to bring Israel BACK? Is it at all possible that when Egypt tried to mediate between you and Israel and protect you from your own stupidity, and you played games (as you do with Israel), that you offended some of your supporters -- AGAIN? Is it at all possible that your behavior, like that of al Qaeda, reinforces the worst stereotypes about Arabs/Muslims in EU/the world, and that some of your friends are upset about this? Could it POSSIBLY be true that your fans in Europe and the Arab world, who cheered when Israel left Gaza and began to talk about investment and construction, are now wondering what on earth is wrong with you, why you let a bunch of sociopathic rocket fans run your foreign policy for you, why you can't settle the Gaza border like adults instead of throwing tantrums because you don't get everything you want? Grow up and meet the real world: Israel exists. It's not going away. You have only 2 choices: you can live in a state of Palestine, with Israel as a peaceful neighbor, or you can see to it by continuing to attack Israel that generations of Palestinians live in a hell of bombings and violence, used and abused by every dictator who fans their delusions of grandeur. Your friends are the ones who are counseling you to settle your differences with Israel, not the ones telling you to attack Israeli towns so that Israel is finally forced to respond in force. If your friends in the Arab/Muslim world are talking this way in public, what do you think they are saying in PRIVATE?
