Olmert and Co. want the international community to save Israel's butt given the utter failure of the Lebanon evacuation, the Gaza evacuation, etc. since Israel apparently can no longer defend itself given that it has no military deterent. And if things just get quiet enough maybe Olmert can carry out further evacuations in Samaria and Judea (of Jews of course). If it wasn't all so sad it would be absolutely hilarious to see the utter incompetence of Israel's leaders, its military, etc. etc. etc.

Compliance with UN Resolutions was of no concern to the entire Arab world when it sought the genocide of the Jewish people and the eradication of the Jewish state in 1948. UN Resolution 181 was ignored. No Jewish state was acceptable to the Arab world, irrespective of borders. As for 242 it mentions secure borders and has no mention whatsoever of any "Palestinian" state. It is no accident that Israel is the only nation forbidden from sitting on the UN Security Council. This UN body often has Arab/Islamic nations present voting for the creation of 'resolutions' pertaining to Israel when Israel is forbidden to even have a say on matters relating to it's own country. The UN is a sister organisation to the Arab League.
