1. The Only Way To True Peace
Irish Sensation ,   Dublin, Ireland   (07.18.06)
Egypt has maintained a peace with Israel after Israel returned the Sinai. Once Israel leaves the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Arab East Jerusalem, the Shebaa Farms, the Golan Heights, peace is only a signature away. It`s not a hard concept. Israel would always claimed it left Lebanon, it left Gaza, but it never did. There were always loose ends, and even more in Gaza with Israel controlling everything in Gaza from the outside, and sealing it up like a concentration camp. Some people may have fell for the myth of Israel ending the occupation, but it never did. This is the only solution for peace. At least in the Palestinians, the former faction Fatah accepted the Israeli state in 78 percent of Mandate Palestine. When Israel doubled the settlement enterprise in the 90`s, some Arabs realized Israel doesn`t have good intentions.
2. to Orna Shimoni
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (07.18.06)
You and people like you can bring about the destruction of Israel. You are a "luxury" we cannot afford. In the "peace" era that began in 1992--and people like you never care if the "peace" is through signed agreements with terrorists or unilateral flight from terrorists, so long as Israel gives in and runs--in this era Israel has known the worst plague of terrorism in its history, by far, and is now surrounded on all sides by terrorist organizations funded, supplied, and driven by Iran. It is the most dangerous situation the country has ever been in. An IDF presence in the Lebanese security zone could certainly have prevented the arming of Hizbullah with 12,000 rockets and missiles--by acting to destroy the missiles before or shortly after Hizbullah received them and positioned them. Possibly, some of this could have been done by the IDF in incursions after it withdrew to the international border, but this would have been less effective, and in any case even this was not done--because people like you convinced people that this was "peace" and who cares what missiles they bring in over there far away in lebanon, now that "the boys are home." You buy a few moments of "peace" by shutting your eyes, and meanwhile the bombs explode in the cities and the rockets rain down on the citizens, but it's all fine, the Four Mothers bought "a few years of peace." If we want to survive as a Jewish state in a Muslim-Arab sea, we will have to fight and there will have to be some losses. This is tragic but it is inevitable. The other alternative is that instead of a battlefiel where soldiers are fighting terrorists, the "battlefield" becomes the bus and the cafe and the disco. You haven't learned this by now?
3. Sadly, you are guilty
(07.18.06)
of proving to the Arabs that they can "win" our surrender. In Lebanon and Gaza, thanks to your movement, we showed weakness. Today's war is a result of that weakness. We did not negotiate ourselves peace - we simply surrendered while they grew strong enough. Did less soldiers die in the last 6 years than if we'd stayed? Yes, I'm sure you are right...but how many will die now to do the work that should have been done then?
4. Hounded Menachem Begin
Alon ,   Jerusalem   (07.18.06)
Just as people like you hounded Begin with the growing number of dead soldiers in Lebanon...you should realize that each life now in the north is a result of the policy you pushed on the Israeli people.
5. What did you expect?
Rachel ,   Pisgat Ze'ev   (07.18.06)
Is that all you want? A few years of quiet? It's wrong for you to lecture us...yes, you have lost - but that doesn't mean you need to tell us that the IDF is more than an abbreviation. Your pushing Israel to pullout like cowards in the night - in Lebanon and then in Gaza - set the stage for what is happening now. Really, what did you expect?
6. Four mothers then - how many now?
Anat ,   Kochav Ya'ir   (07.18.06)
Four Mothers pushed the Barak gov't to pull back "unprofessionally" - but you didn't care then. Now, we all pay the price - more than 1/3 of the country is under fire because we didn't have the guts to force Hizbollah and others to the negotiating table. Our pulling back then was seen - by them - as a sign of weakness and we all knew it would be. We didn't gain 6 years of peace - we gained 6 years of watching them build and stockpile rockets for the moment they could bomb the h*ll out of the north and possible further south. Four mothers pushed this plan...how many mothers will mourn now because we gave in and didn't do it right back then????
7. Peace
Mohammad Bazz ,   Amman - Jordan   (07.18.06)
hi, Why there is no one Isreali PM's like to make piece . it is very easy steps if we follow we all will save our childrens from both sides from this death tool . 1- stop the fight imidiatly. 2- change all the presoners from both sides. 3- set on a table and talk about peace only not fighting. 4- go back to 67's border . 5- jurusalem capital for both nations. 6- isreal will keep 48's border as a state. 7- plestine will disarm all weapons from all groups and make a small army to control borders. 8- peace treatments with all arab countries. 9- make a new market in the middle east including isreal and palestine and all arab countries (like UE). 10-refiguees of palistenians to stay in the countries they are now and take money instead . i think some poeple will say this will take 100 years to be done . but i am sure it will be done and it is better to start now to avoid more killing. this steps will remove the need of war and the weapon collections from all sides. thanks
8. Orna - You did the right thing
EM ,   Israel   (07.18.06)
I supported you then and I stand behind you now. 100%. Your actions then spared hundreds of mothers the pain of losing their children in battle. Thank goodness we had the relative peace in the north for 6 years. Hezbullah is the cause of the current situation - not the pull-out. And the solution is to stop Hezbullah...not attack you!
9. how many israelis died in one week?? Where is Barak?
uli ,   jerusalem   (07.18.06)
10. Wow
GaDo   (07.18.06)
This lady's guilt just oozes off the page. Allow me to summarize her article: "Waaaahh they're blaming me. It's not my fault that my liberal idiocy led to the current barrage of attacks that are murdering many many innocent Israelis." Methinks the lady doth protest too much. No, lady, you are not naive. You are just plain dangerous.
11. To: Mohammad
(07.18.06)
The Arabs could have had the borders of 1948...they chose war. Why should we return to the weak and indefensible borders of 1948 because now, 58 years later, you realize your mistake. Take the situation as it is now and make peace. Forget Jerusalem - it is ours and we will keep it. It could have been shared...your people chose war - again and again and again. I agree the Palestinian refugees should stay where they are and take money - they shouldn't have been refugees after 50+ years. Jews who fled Arab countries aren't refugees here - they were welcomed by their brothers. Why weren't the Palestinians welcomed in the Arab countries? I agree with much of what you wrote - please convince the Arabs of your plan and then you will find a willing partner in Israel - but be realistic. The borders of 1948...even 1967 are gone. If the Arabs keep up the fighting, the borders of 2006 will not survive either.
12. Yes indeed, it is your fault
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.18.06)
An unconditional retreat left the border unprotected and allowed Hizbolla the time and freedom to amass the missles they are now firing at the north. Enjoy your EU money while people suffer.
13. Dear Orna
david carmeli ,   melbourne, florida   (07.18.06)
I just don't see how you are going to bring the 3 soldiers home and disarm hisbullah without a ground invasion. please tell me of a war won by air power alone? Oh, I forgot, you don't want to win but only to have a few more years of quiet until the next flareup. May I suggest if you want quiet, you should move to a deserted island in the middle of an ocean.
14. To Orna:
Patricia   (07.18.06)
Youy are the proof that Hell is paved with good intention.... You and your group caused the casualties we see now... You have blood on your hands and all your casuistry won't help... The accusations are right... You achieved death and destruction... You were, and still are a fool, an honest fool maybe but also a dangerous one..
15. Have you no shame????
Jenny   (07.18.06)
Your cries for appeasement have led to the thousand Israelis dead since 2,000 and the start of the intifadah and have DIRECTLY led to the 24 Israelis killed from Hizbollah!!! Have you no shame? Aren't you embarassed at such a time to come on here and preach to us? You have brought weakness and shame to us and are now living in total denial. Leaving Hizbollah, aka the Iranian Islamic army, on our border and allowing them to amass 15,000 rockets was a success in your mind? Have you seen northern Israel???? It is in pieces as well as the 24 dead and 2 kidnapped soldiers. We do not enjoy the support of the International community, not because of your precious Lebanon pullout and not EVER. When will you wake up? When will you admit you were wrong when it is staring you in the face? You disgust me. Take your Four Mothers group and move to France. The people of the north will not die for you so you could sip your nana tea in Tel Aviv. Enough is enough.
16. Idiot!
AK ,   Tiberias, Israel   (07.18.06)
Foolish, foolish women. How insane we are when eyes are covered with shrouds as yours are. You say we "carefully planned a retreat from Lebanon". Those soldiers in 2000 ran for their lives for the border, leaving behind their weapons and positions. Our pullout has not brought any peace, rather it gave our enemy a chance to heal and arm himself again, if we had finished Hezbollah once and for all and destroyed southern Lebanon (scorched earth) then those people in Haifa would not have died this past week, my city would not be bombarded, and many more lives would have been saved. The Lebanese people have to face up to what they have done, they elected 23 member of Hezbollah into their government and defied UN Resolution 1159. They have now launched around 1400 rockets into Israel in the past week and kidnapped and killed many soldiers/sailors. Just look at Hezbollahs charter (remember that they are in the government): * The conflict with Israel is viewed as a central concern. The complete destruction of the State of Israel and the establishment of Islamic rule over Jerusalem is an expressed goal. Israel should wipe Beirut from the map as an example for those who antagonize us, don't start or you will pay. 17. orna, you...
lady from a.u.n.t. ,   israel   (07.18.06)
definately should take part of the blame for a cowardly pullout of israeli troops in the middle of the night. letting hizzbullah the ability of building up their arsenal of katushas for the past six years is a crime!!!
18. Israel Abandoned its Allies
Johnny Weintraub ,   Sugar Land, Texas US   (07.18.06)
The Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon during 2000 left the South Lebanese Army defenseless and without support. Now, when Israel needs allies in Lebanon, the Lebanese remember Israel as unfaithful and willing to surrender its allies to the common enemy.
19. This 2Front War is Thanks To People Like You & Barak, Sharon
H ,   Jerusalem   (07.18.06)
Olmert, Peres, Peretz, Meretz, Sheretz and all Left-wingers.
20. What does she care, now it's someone else's children!
Tuvia Fogel ,   Milan   (07.18.06)
That this woman dares to speak rather than live out her remaining years in hiding is an affront to every Israeli. The whole Muslim world took heart from the movement she founded and concluded that the Jews didn't have what it took to survive in the Middle East. The result of her life's work is that Arabs now think the IDF can be defeated, something they had not dared to think since 1967. And now she lectures Israel from the pages of a newspaper - unbelievable!
21. Ani Ma'ashim Otakh!
Ruvy in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.18.06)
Orna, how many funerals of the dead have you gone to over the last few days? Their blood is on your hands! You spread the delusion of peace, but HizbAllah has awoken us to their reality, the reality of Dar el Harb. And your pressure, combined with the cowardice and the bad judgment of Ehud Barak, has brought that reality crashing on the homes of Haifa, just to mention one place. YES, IT IS YOUR FAULT!
22. Women and children need protection too
westbankmama   (07.18.06)
The main mistake that the four mothers made is forgetting the job of the soldier. His job is to protect those who can't protect themselves - namely women, children and the elderly. Your motherly instinct to protect the soldiers came at the expense of those who needed protection more.
23. If you want to get rid of Hezbollah
(07.18.06)
go to Syria and Iran. You're not making Hezbollah any weaker by bombing Lebanese infrastructure or establishing a new "security zone" there.
24. Sadly, you truly believe in fairy tales, that muslims are
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (07.18.06)
not trying to take over the world at every oportunity. I believe you THOUGHT you were right, and thousands of people are dead because you and leftist wishers and hopers trusted the muslims. Their goal is to kill every Jew. You are helping them. Stop already, go into hiding, shut your mouth and pray to be forgiven.
25. now ask pardon to all israeli people
albert   (07.18.06)
now ask pardon to all israeli people. and to all the dead in sfat, naharya, haifa....etc... your action gave the force to the hezbollah and hamas and now they are also waiting for you and you friends to act . if you are afraid stay like nasrallah in a bunker and let us live and fight like proud jewish in eretz israel ! shame on you !
26. We should of left Lebanon not run away like thieves at night
Caligula's Horse ,   Solomon's Stables   (07.18.06)
27. Collective memory
sher ,   Netanya Israel   (07.18.06)
Had Israel stayed in Lebanon the Hizballah would still have rearmed. How quickly people forget the constant bleeding of those last years of the "security zone". Rockets, kidnappings, killings and no progress in the fight against Hizballah. The only real way to disarm that border is to work tirelessly towards a peace treaty with those who live beyond it. No need to apologize, Four Mothers. You were right.
28. Even though I understand your point of
atmawi ,   Historic Palestine   (07.18.06)
view as a Jew, I did expect you to mention the Prisnores. You still Jail thousands of Palestinian, Arab prisnors. You know the root cause of the problem is occupation, and prisnores. Peace will get you not few, but many years of quit. We the Arabs ready for that. The arab league offered full peace in exchange of full withdrawal from Arab land occupied in 1967. I do not get it, What the hi*l you guys want more? I thought Barak offered 98% of what Arabs asking for. Do you think the left 2% deserve all this blood shed? One stae for all shall be the answer. Please help us to get rid of this poweless PA, and lets have one society, one state, one Parlement (Keneset), one vote for each resident. I do not see why educated Israelies can not accept such scenario? any one can expalin to me. And do not tell me that you want a Jewish state, this is so Racist, and does not apply to the recent civilized times.
29. Good Intentions...
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.18.06)
Good intentions are not a prophylactic for bad results. You succeeded politically in getting your nations leaders to make a very bad strategic decision. The fault rests squarely on your shoulders and theirs. We won't absolve you of it - You will have to live with it.
30. #1
St. Patrick ,   center   (07.18.06)
we left lebanon to the last inch, the UN regonizes this fact. about the Gaza strip, we are simply asking for some quiet after we make concessions, we planned to leave most of the west bank too but the Pals messed it up. if we leave all the lands we get an "offical" ceasefire, with terrorists bugging us just like they did in lebanon, and im not talking only about the recent attacks.
