1. you r fooling urselves
jamal abdel nasser ,   united arab states   (07.18.06)
We as lebaneese wish every day that you enter by groung because then we can acheive our goals and you will be under our fire your are chicken
2. Why ??????
pfloyd ,   USA   (07.18.06)
... i don't understand where the US government is drawing the line between "talking" and "actively" getting involved ... is "this" situation between Israel and Hezbullah/Hamas NOT a battle vs terrorists???? ... IF in fact "this" situation IS viewed by the US as a battle vs terrorism , WHY does the US NOT get involved actively??? - it doesn't get anymore clear cut than this free world vs terrorists!!!! ... it has been said over and over again since 9/11 that we are in a "War on Terrorism" - YET in "this" clear cut situation the US is satisfied to be a passive participant - leave it up to the Israelis to "git 'r done" ... hell I'm listening to Tony Snow say that the US Sec. of State may not even go to the Middle East ! ... when it was talked about that she would go - it would have been ONLY to talk to Israel and maybe Lebanon ... no direct contact with the key players Hizbullah/Hamas/Syria/Iran ... pfloyd
3. What of the minorities?
Gilan ,   J'lem, Izzie   (07.18.06)
It would be interesting to see what the numbers are for Arab-, Druze-, Bedouin-, and Christian-Israelis.
4. Peretz and the opinion polls
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (07.18.06)
Gosh - "21 per cent back Peretz". But the earlier poll said that 72 per cent were satisfied with him! Setting aside the unreliability of opinion polls, it's true that a lot of people (myself included) were sceptical when Peretz's appointment as Defence Minister was announced. But on the whole, and particularly now in the present war situation, I think he is doing OK.
5. Sad, but an opportunity
Paul Malykont ,   Los osos, usa   (07.18.06)
Peretz may or may not be competent but the IDF is! Safeguard Israel and save Lebanon by destroying Hizbollah. Ground troops are needed and Syrian supplies must be interdicted. If Syria resists, so be it and if Iran sticks its nose in deal with them and America should as well. Arabs have the same rights as Israelis, but governments must be held accountabble.
6. mofaz ,pushed aside because he was right
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.18.06)
The kadimaites were all wrong and Mofaz was right. This is the truth that Israel has yet to face and deal with. The curse of Israel listening to U.S. policy of rewarding, protecting and supporting the Palestinain Terrorist Authority has yet to be paid in full. You continue to allow the enemy there to grow stronger and are weak and slow to crush them. The same mistake which you made with Hezbollah will cost you in Gaza. You cant reward evil and not get bitten by the snake you fed. No one has yet been held responsible for sending into Gaza so many weapons and ammunition last month at U.S. request . How stupid of you Olmert /Peretz.
7. We back you Olmert
Avraham ,   Netivot   (07.18.06)
Although I didn't vote for Kadima, I back Olmert 100%. Peretz is another storey, he is not the right person for the job. put Mofaz back as DM. Go IDF go, you are the greatest in the world.
8. no.1 keep writing
(07.18.06)
your sh*t
9. #1- chicken? - I think 'smart' is the word you meant :-)
michael ,   tel aviv & london   (07.18.06)
You're very brave but it appears that you don't live in Lebanon ? We can easily win without risking lives so why not? Any other course of action would be stupid even Arabic one might say, Mike
10. #2 - The US is focussing on Iran and N. Korea
michael ,   tel aviv & london   (07.18.06)
Israel doesn't need (but thank you) any help as we are basically only cleaning a sewer. And the rats are snapping at us. The U.S.'s priority right now is N. Korea and Iran which is as it should be. This is only taking as long as it is because Israel is trying to minimize civilian casualties and not bring down the Lebanese government. Thanks for your concern, Michael
11. May I remind you?
Halldor Halldorsson ,   Iceland   (07.18.06)
Hitler also had overwhelming popular support for his way of securing "lebensraum" for Germany in the 1930's!
12. #1 jamal
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.18.06)
we shall see who is the chicken Is the sheikh hassan nasrallah hiding in a hole far away and is afraid to fight side by side with his jihad boys ? However the air force continues to operate in the northeast area of Hermel near the Syrian border where Israeli security officials reportedly believe Hizbullah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah may have escaped to on Saturday night, along with other militia leaders including the man thought to have been behind the horrific US Marine barracks attack in Beirut in October 1983 that left 241 American marines dead—the worst ever terror assault on US military personnel. I was in Lebanon when that took place, and the memories will never leave me. The radical Shiite militia leaders are said to be hiding there in a deep underground bunker. Meanwhile signs are growing that a limited army ground operation into southern Lebanon may be imminent
13. Walmart will sue "Olmert"
Mike ,   SF   (07.18.06)
Wal-Mart is a good and cheap mart in the US, and this Olmert originally from china, and his last name is a violation of copy rights and a cheap way to get his name You know in china they copy everything even Wal-Mart name to Olmert. attacking civilians another violation commited by Olalalalamertttttttttt
14. Please PROTEST: ARAB MK: 'I ADVISED PA TO KIDNAP SOLDIER'
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (07.18.06)
Treason and maliciously endangering IDF soldiers' lives by Arab MKs is allowed in Israel whilst patriotic Jews are punished and jailed and regarded as ENEMIES OF THE STATE. It is urgent that demonstrations are held outside the Knesset and outside Israeli consulates world-wide to protest that Arab MKs are allowed to commit treason - collude with the enemy - repeatedly call for intifada against Israel - and encourage global jihadist religious supremacists to kidnap IDF soldiers. And to protest the persecution and politically-motivated, unjust jailing of Jewish patriots. israelnationalnews.com Arab MK: 'I Advised PA to Kidnap Soldier' Jul 09, '06 / 13 Tammuz 5766 by Hillel Fendel Knesset Member Wasal Taha, corresponding publicly with internet surfers on the Arabic-language IslamOnline site, said he repeatedly advised PA terrorists to battle and kidnap Israeli soldiers. According to a report in Maariv newspaper on Sunday, Taha told surfers on Thursday that he repeatedly advised the PA Arabs to stop shooting and targeting civilians, and to concentrate on IDF targets... http://www.israelnn.com/news.php3?id=106857
15. this poll includes israeli arabs - not valid
david ,   miami usa   (07.18.06)
i don't know any jews who think that "diplomatic negotiations" with hezbollah is are a good idea. in this poll 10% or respondants thought this. these are either arabs or lunatic lefties.
16. ISRAEL's right to defend itself
Holy ,   Terra Sancta, Israel   (07.18.06)
I guess you, Icelanders, have never been under any constant life threats from your neighbours ... ( oh, yes -- may be now and then you have to avoid burns inflicted by hot water [geysers? ]... NOne of this would have taken place if this MAD-DOG-NASRAllah hadn't kidnapped Israeli soldiers (and not for the first time). So please, spare us the lecturing...
17. Realignment Plan
Piranha ,   Chicago, USA   (07.18.06)
Hmmmm.....if there's a drop in support for the realignment plan, from 38 percent to 35 percent, what is the percentage of people who actually oppose the realignment plan, and how many opposed it the last time the question was asked? This is pretty important, and I would bet that now there is a clear majority opposed to the realignment/convergence plan.
18. It does take a military expert to know
AK   (07.18.06)
that no sane government decides its military strategy by opinion polls. People support Olmert because the country is under an attack, and nobody wishes to weaken him. At the same time, he must not confuse this loyalty to the office of Prime Minister, and nation's leader, with an approval for his actions. Bush's approval ratings went up immediately after we were attacked, even before he had a chance to do anything Now, those 59% feeling safe in the North of the country must be the inhabitants of the Arab towns and villages. You would have to be insanely brave to feel safe with missiles falling on your town.
19. #16, Holy???
Halldor Halldorsson ,   Iceland   (07.18.06)
Israel has every right to defend itself, but certainly NOT by murdering hundreds of innocent civilians in other sovereign countries. I have no qualms about the Israelis going about in covert operations, killing off terrorists; as they did following the despicable Munich-attack. On the other hand Israel's present actions are looking very much like they are following Hitlers own blueprints of territorial gluttony and masterrace heavyhandedness!
20. to Helldor son of Helldor
Natcho   (07.19.06)
bad comparison!! this isn't about more room. this is defending one's self against those who want to destroy one's country and supporting one's leadership in doing so. Most Israelis I am sure would want less restraint on the Israeli DEFENSE Forces to do their mission and clear the dangers to Israel's survival including getting rid of Hamas.
21. #20, Natcho???
Halldor Halldorsson ,   Iceland   (07.19.06)
I'm sure you know more than most about hell, but still!!?? How many dead civilians do you think Israel needs to make them feel safe and secure?? How many towns and cities erazed?? How many concentration camps for them to police?? Doesn't this sound like something from the world's recent past?? Maybe a known blueprint?? So, I see nothing wrong with my comparison!
