2. Susie Becher is right: Israel must stop war &appease Hezbola
Neville Chamberlain ,   London UK   (07.19.06)
Only genuine appeasement of the nice people in Hamas and Hezbola will bring Peace in our time
3. Jewish intelligence
Igor ,   Germany   (07.19.06)
There is a common belief, among anti-semites and pro-semites alike, that Jews are somehow exceptionally intelligent. The very existence of Meretz-Yahad is a proof that this is only an anti-semitic canard and wishful thinking on the side of pro-semites.
4. The Meretz-Yachad organization
Ken ,   SA   (07.19.06)
In January this year a member of Susie Bechers left wing orgainization was arrested by police for being an Iranian spy.
5. Come to
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (07.19.06)
6. show humanity?
dave s. ,   novato, CA, USA   (07.19.06)
Would Susie have said the same in 1945 when the camps and killing fields came to light? Show humanity, she says, to the genocidal successors to the SS. The enemy is expecting your show of humanity, in order to kill you better.
7. So how?
Art ,   sydney   (07.19.06)
so how do we end it then? without setting ourselves up for a worse disaster next time.
8. one rational voice!
Jasmine   (07.19.06)
Iam glad to hear even a one rational voice in Israel...thanks susie. when i read the talkbacks on different articles, i can barely spot a rational and humane voice. "de-humanizing the enemy" is the strategy of Israeli gov. it is totally wrong. when their childrens are killed with no mercy from your side, why you wonder how could they kill yours??
9. we have names for people like you
Yisraeli   (07.19.06)
Lady Haw Haw or Hanoi Jane or maybe Quisling guess we have to now create one specifically for Israelis such as yourself, any suggestions guys?
10. Lady... You are SOOOO misguided!
Susan Taragin ,   Jeusalem   (07.19.06)
11. Susie:
Michael Steiner   (07.19.06)
I am a person who wholeheartedly supported the Hitnatqut. I want to see the Kitkonsut implemented, too. I want see the Palestinian refugees and their descendants compensated. I want to see a Palestinian state established ASAP in Aza and most of the West Bank, and I want land traded so the Palestinians get the equivalent of the entire West Bank in case Israel decides (as it will realistically have to) to annex certain areas (i.e. large settlement blocks). I am a staunch critic of disproportionate use of force in security forces' arrest or assassination operations in the territories. I deplore some of the tactics our forces use at makhsomim. I am not happy about the route the security barrier takes in some places. And as all of the above, even I tell you: GO THE HELL AWAY!!! Israel is in a war, which it did not start. The threat of terror from Aza and especially Lebanon HAS TO be decisively and completely eradicated. It may mean levelling the whole of Aza. And Lebanon. And Syria. I don't care. Israel wasn't occupying them and yet they attacked us. So f*** it--now they'll suffer. Sof pasuk.
12. PERIPHERAL IDEALISM
STEVE ,   LONDON, ENGLAND   (07.19.06)
The war not be over even ten years from now. It will not be over until the parties to the war fully comprehend what the war is about. What, in other words, it is ‘over’. You may not be familiar with this English idiom but it has its linguistic semantics in England and in the English sense of a peripheral vision. England’s point of view being that it alone had the ability and the determined will to lead nations to their freedom…. To get over the obstacles to freedom. That was the nineteenth and twentieth centuries however. Today the world is failing to get messages of humanity over to each other and this, the definition of humanity, is what the parties to this present outbreak of violence have to comprehend. Comprehension (and particularly for the bloody minded militias) that begins and ends in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Articles 28 to 30. Article 28. Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized. Article 29. (1) Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of his personality is possible. (2) In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society. (3) These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations. Article 30. Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein. Now I suspect neither you nor anybody else in the region ever read those Articles before. But these are the universal terms of reference we need to comprehend and these will apprehend the martial mentality and articulate the end of armed struggle. They have the moral authority that can open the way to progress on the diplomatic struggle. The present battles will end when the IDF have done their job. Their job is to destroy Hezbollah as long as Hezbollah will not abandon armed struggle that is. The political establishment in Israel exercises responsibility under the constitution and in regard to international law. The political establishment in Israel is the mind and intellect of Israel. The IDF is an extension of the faculties of the body of Israel and while the body is in danger the IDF must act and flex as much muscle as it needs to bring about the end of hostilities. The IDF and its masters shall be the hosts of the ultimate victory over violence. The political establishment must see to it that the people everywhere comprehend the definition of humanity in their peripheral vision. Because that is what the war is over.
13. defeatism only works if these jokers get your vote
aaron ,   ra'anana   (07.19.06)
even Yossi Sarid says there is no reason for Meretz to exist anymore...
14. good article and hope it helps
samir ,   canada   (07.19.06)
Very well said. I hope Israel would recognize the threat USA is imposing on their existence. The USA has its own agenda, which not get involved in another war in the area and let Israel do the job. The whole world is watching the brutality of the IDF in Lebanon, even if the leaders don't show it openly but their people see it and it inflames anti-Semitism around the world. When can Israel understand that peace dosen't come with force? If they continue like that then the end of Israel is certainly very close. Don't you think that these acts in Lebanon would create 100's of suicide bombers? Wake up and stop the terror.
15. Yet ANOTHER one who has no shame
Jenny   (07.19.06)
Give it up. You and your Meretz party and The Four Mothers group were wrong and have caused nothing but grief and death to our country. We will NOT let Hizbollah sit on our border and kill our northern civillians every now and then so you could feel safe in your home in Tel Aviv. Get lost! And I'm serious about it. If you don't like winning wars and defeating enemies whose only motto in life is "death to Jews and infidels", then please move to France. They appease, appease and appease more. You will feel right at home. Believe me Israel is not the place for you. We cannot commit national suicide any longer b/c it suits your fancy.
16. Susie Becher
Abe Rhodes PhD ,   UK   (07.19.06)
There is no doubt that Susie Becher and the members of Meretz are very civilized people and she is right that war always undermines society's humanity. However history teaches us that over-civilized societies inevitably become the prey of barbarians. I suspect that if Susie and her ilk had ever been in power in Israel then Israel would no longer exist as a Jewish state.
18. don't stop now
dr daniel mostrel ,   paris   (07.19.06)
the goal now is not just the release of the soldiers in lebanon the late governements left a so bad situation with hezbollah plenty of missiles that now the job must be done according to UN resolution 1559 in gaza the same the pals must stop firing rockets even if they feel judea samaria is not evacuated thzey will always find an excuse to follow stiking civilians in israel stop the army now is foolish and demonstrate against tsahal action is betrayal let this to the arabs MKs
19. Thank You Suzie-
Dorothy ,   Herzliah, Israel   (07.19.06)
For a change a sensible Israeli voice! May it be widely heard. Were head of Meretz instead of Yossi Beilin, the party would have a different face.
20. Our war in Lebanon
Israel E. Naor ,   Herzliah, Israel   (07.19.06)
Susie is to be complemented for her analytical analysis of our involvement in yet another war in Lebanon. The results till now clearly show that Hezbollah will not be eliminated even by a fierce and destructive aerial campaign and the question remains whether all the losses of lives and enormous destruction will get our kidnapped soldiers back.
21. Susie Becher member of:Meretz-Yachad, this says it all!
leftwingmoonbat ,   academy   (07.19.06)
Come check out this exteamly sarcastic site, enjoy and sing along to this meretz yahad favorite!: Imagine (speacial israel version) http://www.thepeoplescube.com/red/viewtopic.php?t=782&highlight=imagine
22. what to you mean by "end it"?
Moshe ,   Beit Shemesh   (07.19.06)
if you mean surrendering Hamas and Hezbollah the way you idiot fanatical leftists (who ignore reality for your Messianic "New Middle East") surrendered to Arafat - that's a recipe for MORE dead Jews. --- if you mean "end it" by destroying the Hezbollah once and for all, then I'm with you.
23. Why Don't You Mention Anything About The Israeli INNOCENT
H ,   Jerusalem   (07.19.06)
civilians who were killed by your friends, the arabs. And these are the terrorists sitting in Israeli jails, in case you're not aware of it. Whoever has mercy on the cruel, will end up being cruel to the merciful.
24. Come to America and teach the peace now traitors how to be
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (07.19.06)
even more treacherous. You can yack, yack, yack all day over here and not be dangerous to Israel.
25. Israel act
paul G. ,   USA   (07.19.06)
All we can say unfortunatly that Israel is Coward, there's nothing left to destroy in Lebanon, they already destroyed more than 200 civilian buildings over civilians heads, and more than 300 bridges and roads, now they are hitting empty trucks lol , they don't know what to do, they killed more than 130 children and women, none of Hizbullah is hit yet, Israel is defending themselves from children heheheeh all we can say is that ISRAEL is a BIG COWARD and OLMERT is losing big time, hope Israel People do something before israel is completely destroyed, that is the talk in the USA now , becarful
26. one democratic state is the solution
Yohan ,   Hamburg   (07.19.06)
We need brave leaders to end the conflict by achieving the One democratic state solution for 2 peoples.
27. Leave poor Susuie alone. She just doesn't have a clue
(07.19.06)
28. Don't we love the direction Meretz is heading in?
Robert Tilden ,   Sheridan, USA   (07.19.06)
I remember when Mertez had over 10 seats in the Knesset. Or was it 12? Now they are down to five, Keep on the good work, keep on speaking,
29. Follow the money...
Your Uncle Bob ,   Washington, DC   (07.19.06)
It would be very interesting to know who is funneling money to Meretz-Yachad. We already know that Iran has great use for this leftist organization. I wonder if they are actively supporting it? Much like the way the Soviets financially supported opposition groups in the US during the Cold War.
30. Susie Becher is a fool
Sidney ,   USA   (07.19.06)
She actually believes that appeasement will bring peace. So did Chamberlain.
