1. Curious...
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.23.06)
Odd to see someone from Labor saying the same things a Naomi Ragen and Shlomo Engel. Israel is dividing into two camps: the Shulamit Aloni/Achmed Tibi group on one hand and the Center-Right.
2. Destroy Hezbollah
Rafi ,   Los Angeles   (07.23.06)
Complete the mission or in two weeks Haifa and the Galilee will be under attack. This is not ambigious no state worthy of surviving and living in could tolerate and enemy on its doorstep who is set to fire at it for any whim. DESTROY HEZBOLLAH
3. Where was this guy 13 days ago?
Itzik ,   Haifa   (07.23.06)
sneh: "Iran wants to "blanket" Israel with missiles and rockets, from Gaza in the south the West Bank in the center of the country, and from Lebanon."
4. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT US ARABS
FERAS ,   EJERUSALEM PALESTINE   (07.23.06)
Few of us Arabs (Muslim and Christian) support these extremist Islamic idiots. For your own justifications, the media has find ways to generalize the concept to all the 300M Arabs. One thing that we the Arabs today all agree on is how humiliated and angry we feel and this through out the whole Arab world. But defiant we are and we will remain. Defiant to the peace that America’s tool called Israel, want to impose, Defiant on the Karazai style democracy, defiant of Israel has the right to defend itself, because I assure you we have the right to defend ourselves too with all the settlements building and land stealing, house demolition and the killing that you always have ways to justify with no feeling. Defiant we will remain to the dictators that America has always supported (Mubarak and King Abdullah) not to forget Syria’s Assad emperor. The Arab street is boiling, the people, young, normal and motivated are boiling. Change is on the way as now it is clear to everyone that Israel can never integrate this region and should be isolated behind walls. And the democracy, we will build will be a proud ones that will bring real change and progress and independence to the Arabs not simply collaborators with America. If I was an Israeli I would be worried, that my country can destroy another country with the support of the whole population remaining in silence. You became so arrogant and extremists in someway that you state will eventually weaken and it all started for now with a weakening of your morality. Democracy to the Arab world will come, but a proud one. When it comes to peace with Israel and I was a big supporter of this peace, we will leave it to next generations but we will fight to ensure that the ghetto wall will be at the 1967 border and no less.
5. The question ..
mohammad kareem ,   Riadh KSA   (07.23.06)
The question Israel and its allies and friends must ask themselves, as they should have in Iraq and Afghanistan is, how they could complain and claim to be mystified about the rise of radicalism and Iranian dominance in the Muslim world if they serve them so well with such inhuman and barbaric actions as targeting civilians from Kandahar to Haditha to Beirut? The ignorant and arrogant, says an Arab proverb, is his own worst enemy.
6. #4 A root of the problem is...
Logic ,   Israel   (07.23.06)
poor thinking. A person or society who dwells in the feelings of "humiliation and anger" does not have time or energy for self-improvement and progress. This is a negativity trap of your own creation, and must be left behind for any positive change to take root and grow.
7. I must protest
Rackie ,   Vancouver, USA   (07.23.06)
On Wednesday the IDF fired on an Al Jazeera TV crew wounding one technician. How could this have happened? How could "wounding"be justified? The IDF are well trained.Since when is "shoot to wound" an operational option.
8. #4 The extremist element always gets the attention
Haifa, Israel   (07.23.06)
Note that you have just done the same thing with us.
9. To #4 - you will never have democracy
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (07.24.06)
There will never be democracy in any Arab or Muslim state because you are incapable of democracy, you are incapable of tolerance, you are incapable of anything except hatred.
10. author
hamad ,   karak, jordan   (07.24.06)
u conveniently forgot Hizbulla attacked soldiers initially not civilians because they wanted a prisonter swap. Their prisoners according to you should not go free because they have jewish blood on their hand. So basically it's ok for Abu Mazen to shake or kiss sharon's bloody hand with the sabra and shatila massacre and for sadat to shake Begin's bloody hand with the Deir yassin village. It's not a secret that every single israeli primeminister with a military background Personally ha civilian arab blood on their hand, Barack, Sharon....etc. but our prisoners who have jewish blood must rotten in prison for ever. As Rabin once said, you make peace with your Enemies not with your friends by definition, but none of you understood it. Jewish notion of ''God's chosen people" is what? is it not utter superiority or racism? what 's the difference betwn that and the Wahabis? Finally, Samson the great, the jewish youth in the Warso Ghetto and the historical jewish inhabitants of the MOSAD village ALL commited suicide killing their enemies because they were facing a rutheless crushing military force bound on their destruction....sound familiar? if you're gonna tell me they did not kill civilians like hamas did in the pizzaria...etc my answer is have you ever seen a more militarized population on the face of the earth than the israelis? my best freind got beaten up in nablus for 1 days by the IDF because they suspected he was hamas, one little problem is that he is an arab christian..so much for a discrimanotry force. what was Goldstein? a hero? did not all the suicide attacks start with him? the first step in reaching a solution is to put yourself in the other's shoes.
11. The Lesson of Lebanon #4
Rick D ,   USA   (07.24.06)
The Lesson of Lebanon is the same as the lesson of Palestine. A weak central govt coupled with violence is a temptation for outside forces to invade. In Lebanon Iran has invaded. In Palestine, oh yeah, Iran has invaded. Iran has been allowed to invade because of the lack of the rule of law and because of the foolish reliance of the Arabs on violence to gain their ends. The Shiites in Leb have been bought off by the Iranians just as has Hamas, IJ, and others in Pal. Your Arab pride drips off the page #4. It will continue to be your undoing. If the Pals don't take control of their own territory, have rule of law, keep out the violence they will get nothing, ever. You cannot win by military means. You can only win by negotiation.
12. The Americab Public Backs Israel on this One.
Goy in NYC ,   NYC, USA   (07.24.06)
Unlike the war in Iraq, which was controversial from the outset, the American "street" overwhelmingly backs Israel in its anti-Hezbollah campaign. (And it's not just because we're not fighting this one.) Apocalyptic lunatic Mr. Ahmadi-Nejad and "Supreme Leader" Khamenei take note: Israel and the US (together with the UK, Australia, maybe even Canada!, Japan, and much of Europe besides France, Germany, and Spain), are coming to get you!
13. to #5
aaron ,   ra'anana   (07.24.06)
what does afganistan have to do with violent arab/muslim radicalism which has been going on since Fatah was formed in 1964 ???? Not to mention the Iranian revolution in 1979... surely the Afghan campaign of 2002 isn't the root cause
14. to General Sneh
aaron ,   ra'anana   (07.24.06)
if unilateral disengagement is the wrong policy, why didn't you oppose the disengagement ???
15. Common sense
Sidney Brooks ,   USA   (07.24.06)
This article makes common sense. Now how can Israeli government officals who insist that the operation is limited be silenced? There can be only one goal, Hezbollah must be destroyed.
16.  consensus
liliane ,   tel aviv   (07.24.06)
No rightists No leftists vis-a-vis this damn war that was forced on us by the most sophisticated and repugnant terrorists ever.
17. #4 Arab "frustration"
Daniel ,   Israel   (07.24.06)
Your comments show that there is a delicate almost invisible line between "extreme" and "moderate" voices in the Arab world when you call Israel America's "tool". Hezballah and Hamas are the tools of Iranian ayatollahs. You Arabs have to learn one way or the other that the Middle East is home to other civilizations too including Israel and not only Muslim Arabs. Until you learn to respect Israel and other indigenous non-Arab and non-Muslim cultures in the Middle East, don't count on any understanding for your "frustration". A hint: if you want to feel less "frustrated" I suggest you address the real problems in the Arab world which is not a miniscule Jewish state but the following: lack of democracy, human rights, rights for women and ethnic and religious minorities, economic underdevlopment and contempt for education and freedom in the Arab world. "Defiant to the peace that America’s tool called Israel, want to impose"
18. GOD justice
omar ,   nablus   (07.24.06)
reghteous will overcome in the end
19. who is responsible?
Rackie ,   Vancouver,USA   (07.24.06)
Last Wednesday IDF forces fire on an Al Jazeera TV crew wounding one technician. Such poor marksmanship I never heard of in the IDF before.
20. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT US ARABS
Michael ,   Charlotte NC   (07.24.06)
I understand very well, Maeir Kahane was right, peace will come when there are as many Arabs in all of Israel, Judea, Samaria and Gaza as there Jews in the all of the Arab world.
21. #7 you fool.....
Chad ,   AZ, USA   (07.24.06)
Al Jazeera works for the jihadists. It is no secret that they hide behind the masks themselves. They use the age old excuse that they are just a news reporting agency. But...We all know that isn't exactly true don't we? It is about as true as the "N" in CNN standing for News. They are Jihad sympathisers who also wish the destruction of Israel. I am a-ok with taking them out while listing them among the enemy casualties, as they have shown a consistent record of consorting with various Arab enemies.
22. to #17
bryan   (07.24.06)
Arabs (moslems and christians) will not accept you untill you give people their rights back. You simply stole a land from its people. I am not saying israelis should be kicked out (i know you don't need my blessing for that matter) but since you asked, you have to let people reclaim their rights even if that negates your jewish majority. Who said it has their has to be a jewish majority or a moslem majority for that matter? If u tell me God, you're not worthy of my response and disregard it. As an arab, i get along more with jews in nyc than with my own skin, why? because they are not trying to drive me off my house or negate me, because they are reasonable, because they don't insult me daily with checkpoints or land confiscations. I flew over palastine/israel on my way to amman once and most of the land was empty. There is enough physical room for all, one person, one vote or 2 states with return of refugees, with respect and equal rights for all. we can make it like Singapore. It's not too late for peace if u step off your pedestal, and treat us like humans and share the land as equals not throwing us scraps of charity as if you're the undisputed owners, otherwise it's gonna be a conflict till judjment day. As for our lousy leaders, sooner or later, their poeple will spit them to the history garbage.
23. Point taken Chad
Rackie ,   Vancouver, USA   (07.25.06)
I was being oblique. I meant to infer, without sounding bloodthirsty, that any IDF trooper, worthy of the uniform, trained as they are, and directed to take out an enemy, would have killed everyone. The "wounding" suggests that the whole incident was accident. Sorry for the weggie.
24. To Bryan #22
Daniel ,   Israel   (07.25.06)
"Arabs (moslems and christians) will not accept you untill you give people their rights back. You simply stole a land from its people." Do you really think that you will be able to sell this propaganda lie in an Israeli newspaper? Israel did NOT "steal" "Palestine" since there has never been any Arab or other non-Jewish state called "Palestine". "Palestine" was and is still the Roman name for JUDEA and not Arabia. The problem in the Middle East is that Arabs think that they are the only one with national rights. There are 22 Arab states but only one tiny Jewish state and no Kurdish or Berber state. You don't like check points? Well, we Israelis don't like Arab terror. Despite mistakes on both sides one thing is very clear: The Jewish side has consistently accepted a peaceful wo-state solution whereas the Arab side has consistently REJECTED a peaceful two-state solution: 1937, 1947, 1967 and 2000.
25. destroying Hezbollah
David Gallowich ,   Pittsburgh,USA   (07.26.06)
This is something the US should of did iiself back in 1982 after having 241 Marines killed in the Beirut barracks bombing.
26. #24
JM ,   SF   (07.26.06)
So because there was no such state legally as Palestine, its ok to take it, create a Jewish state, and force every one on the territory to follow the Jewish leaders command, and to call your neighbors terrorists and kick their ass only because america gave you weapons & money for war? I consider the Israeli army as more terrorist than the people they are chasing.
