1. Who's attacking who?
Evgeniy ,   NYC, US   (07.28.06)
Wang said "... more than two weeks after Israel launched hostilities against its neighbor." - idiots, what can I say? In that case it's UN who attacked Israel. And UN should apologize for the accident. UN MUST stop deliberate attacks on Israel and MUST take their "peacekeepers" (I like a word "peacekeepers" in relation to UN, calling chicken a bird would be the same) out of area, otherwise will complain to US and start shelling their positions deliberately.
2. Thank USA for that
(07.28.06)
What does the UN have to do with hizballah ???
3. Attack is NOT intentional
World citizen ,   World   (07.28.06)
Muslim terrorists, being a cowards, hide behind UN posts, mosques, hospitals, inside humanitarian help vehicles, and they love to hide behind the civilian population, especially children & babies. Let's not to fall into their trap asking for the world compassion. Remember that they are brutal immoral murderers.
4. Proof: Hezbollah was using UN post as 'shield'
kenstee ,   USA   (07.28.06)
The Ottawa Citizen, a newspaper in Canada confirmed what we all believe... "The words of a Canadian United Nations observer written just days before he was killed in an Israeli bombing of a UN post in Lebanon are evidence Hezbollah was using the post as a "shield" to fire rockets into Israel, says a former UN commander in Bosnia. Just last week, Maj. Hess-von Kruedener wrote an e-mail about his experiences after nine months in the area, words Maj.-Gen. MacKenzie said are an obvious allusion to Hezbollah tactics. "What I can tell you is this," he wrote in an e-mail to CTV dated July 18. "We have on a daily basis had numerous occasions where our position has come under direct or indirect fire from both (Israeli) artillery and aerial bombing. "The closest artillery has landed within 2 meters (sic) of our position and the closest 1000 lb aerial bomb has landed 100 meters (sic) from our patrol base. This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity." Those words, particularly the last sentence, are not-so-veiled language indicating Israeli strikes were aimed at Hezbollah targets near the post, said Maj.-Gen. MacKenzie. "What that means is, in plain English, 'We've got Hezbollah fighters running around in our positions, taking our positions here and then using us for shields and then engaging the (Israeli Defence Forces)," he said. That would mean Hezbollah was purposely setting up near the UN post, he added. It's a tactic Maj.-Gen. MacKenzie, who was the first UN commander in Sarajevo during the Bosnia civil war, said he's seen in past international missions: Aside from UN posts, fighters would set up near hospitals, mosques and orphanages. A senior UN official, asked about the information contained in Maj. Hess-von Kruedener's e-mail concerning Hezbollah presence in the vicinity of the Khiam base, denied the world body had been caught in a contradiction."
5. China has Chutzpah!
Michael ,   Austin, TX   (07.28.06)
I find it particularly galling that China, which has a heinous human rights history is criticizing Israel. Why hasn't the UN ever, ever met about Tibet??? They've NEVER even mentioned Tibet at all.
6. They'd keep peace if they're peacekeepers...
Evgeniy ,   NYC, US   (07.28.06)
... otherwise what do they do there? Did you ask yourself that question? Read a history why they are there! And read UN resolutions that UN didn't care to make sure were fulfilled. And really what US has to do with UN and Hezbollah, except US helps Israel get those bastards by the balls? And of course thanks to US for that!
7. Does it ever occur to the UN
Floyd   (07.28.06)
that Hezbollah intentionally placed these UN members in areas where they could get hurt or killed?

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=37278180-a261-421d-84a9-7f94d5fc6d50 Pathetic (and typical) how this critical information gets swept under the rug as the world continues to condemn the most humane (to the point of self harm!!) military in the world. Ripley's.
10. Observer killed in strike wrote e-mail contradicting accus..
Rene ,   Florida, USA   (07.28.06)
Please read the following articles: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51265 'The United Nations post in Lebanon at the center of controversy over a deadly Israeli attack likely was being used as a "shield" by Hezbollah to fire rockets into the Jewish state, according to a former U.N. commander in Bosnia....' http://www.nysun.com/article/36860 'A Canadian U.N. observer, one of four killed at a UNIFIL position near the southern Lebanese town of Khiyam on Tuesday, sent an e-mail to his former commander, a Canadian retired major-general, Lewis MacKenzie, in which he wrote that Hezbollah fighters were "all over" the U.N. position, Mr. MacKenzie said. Hezbollah troops, not the United Nations, were Israel's target, the deceased observer wrote. '
11. STOP WAR NOW!
Ehud ,   HIroshima, JAPAN   (07.28.06)
Guys we have no more friends in the world. Everyone hates us!! Media started growing against us, everything is against us and yet IDF are still stubbornly killing innocents, babies, and destroying civilian infrastructures. STOP WAR NOW!
12. I will set Thy face against thee...
Rahn W. ,   Vancouver, BC   (07.28.06)
If the shoe was on the other foot, and Israel was being bombed into the 19th century, it would certainly be a different story wouldn't it? This whole issue and the way Israel has treated it's Arab neighbors since 1948 just goes to show that Israel learned well from it's fascist tormentors. There are natural laws in the conduct of humans, and there will be consequnces for this sorry transgression against the civilians of Lebanon. A lack of empathy for these true innocents will be your downfall. (I am talking about the dead women and children in Lebanon, as well as wanton destruction of infrastructure) Israel brings itself down to level of the legitimate enemy it is trying to destroy. There is a large line between self defence and destroying a country. How can any of you with a straight face who support this pray to your g_d?
13. From LGF Blog- Hizbollah attacks on UN Post
Mary ,   USA   (07.28.06)
Hizballah Attacked UNIFIL Twice This Week Neither the mainstream media nor Kofi Annan have mentioned it, but Hizballah has attacked UNIFIL observers twice this week. (Hat tip: Larry.) From the UN’s own press releases: 24 July 2006: One unarmed UN military observer, a member of the Observer Group Lebanon (OGL), was seriously wounded by small arms fire in the patrol base in the Marun Al Ras area yesterday afternoon. According to preliminary reports, the fire originated from the Hezbollah side during an exchange with the IDF. He was evacuated by the UN to the Israeli side, from where he was taken by an IDF ambulance helicopter to a hospital in Haifa. He was operated on, and his condition is now reported as stable. Notice: in this instance, the UN observer was injured badly enough to be evacuated to an Israeli hospital. Where they saved his life. Not a word of condemnation from Kofi Annan for Hizballah. And not a word of gratitude for Israel, for saving a UN peacekeeper’s life.
14. Kofi Ananis responsible for the deaths on those UN observers
AK   (07.28.06)
He should have evacuated them as soon as the hostilities started.
15. what if
yo   (07.28.06)
if hezbollah would infiltrate US embassy in Tel Aviv, would IDF bomb the crap out of it? would IDF kill US personnel just to make sure all hezbollah members inside are dead? i doubt. double standards are everywhere. UN is not throwing 3 bln usd checks every year at israel, and (except the US part of UN) it has the common sense to try to stop this crap before it escalates in WW3. face it, Iran/Syria are as triggerhappy as israel, and if US gets involved, nukes will start falling. and i dont think Russia/China will be on the same side of the conflict as US.
16. UN responsible for deaths for not evacuating UN personel
AR Farmer ,   USA   (07.28.06)
This confirms just how stupid the UN is and how silly Kofi Annan is. Worse yet... UN Peacekeepers have been informing the UN that the TERRORISTS are using them as shields!!! The UN does nothing - not a thing! EVEN worse... these "Peacekeepers" could not keep the peace, and they let TERRORISTS invade Israel BECAUSE the UN WOULD NOT LET THEM DO ANYTHING. PEACEKEEPERS ARE UN HOSTAGES. STUPID STUPID STUPID UN!!!
17. Did you say UN peacekeepers?
John ,   NZ   (07.28.06)
If UN peace keepers were tthere, how come there is no peace. What the hell are they keeping? Collecting Corruption Money for Kofi? They should investigate this.
18. China...what a joke
Pat ,   Wisconsin, USA   (07.28.06)
What business does China have conducting UN "peacekeeping" missions? They need to stop terrorising their own civilian population before they can even start thinking about having any critical voice in any matter; especially a matter that was obviouly a mistake even to the most mentally dense.
19. Who cares, the UN is quickly becoming irrelevant.
D- ,   San Diego, USA   (07.28.06)
The UN, supported primarily by western countries, was a good attempt to try to develop common understanding between all countries. However, that was not possible as some were just too unreasonable. Inevitably, after the UN has been used mainly to persuade western countries to be sitting ducks for Islamic terror, and for profiting from arms trade with Islamic terror states by other countries, the UN is a failure and has become irrelevant. It is only by veto of 1 country, the US, the primary sponsor of the UN, that Israel was not condemned for defending itself from Islamic terror. And for that veto, a major arms supplier to the Islamic terror states, with only profit on their mind, threatens to drop support for stopping one of it's primary customers from obtaining nuclear weapons. What a farce the UN is. How irrelevant can it get? That specific UN observer post itself even reported that it was being used as shields by Islamic terrorists and this still happened. There is no truth nor reason in the UN. There never has been and there never will be. The UN has become nearly entirely irrelevant.
20. FIght oh Israel, Fight
Brian ,   San Jose, CA, USA   (07.28.06)
The UN is the most anti-jewish organization in the world. There has never been any condemnation from that hateful organization any time an Israeli is killed by terror or any time a world leader blames the Jews and states that the Holocaust did not happen. We Americans are with you Israel, I wish I could enlist in your IDF and join the fight. No one remembers your 2,000 years of wandering and oppression. Your destiny is not in the UN's hands that organization wants to reopen camps in France, Germany and Poland for you. Fight this evil from Leb, and PA so it is on more forever. God bless The Israeli People.

Jeremiah ,   USA   (07.28.06)
I like how you have in bold red: "Not Deliberate" Unfortunately for you, the Canadian widow, and the world know differently: "The wife of Maj. Paeta Hess-von Kruedener, missing and presumed dead after an Israeli attack on his UN observer post, has charged the bombing was "intentional." "The building was clearly marked, their vehicles were clearly marked, they were clearly marked as UN observers," Cynthia Hess-von Kruedener told reporters Thursday. "So why were (the Israelis) firing on that base? ... In my opinion, those were precision-guided missiles, so the attack was intentional." She also said that Israel had attacked the area several times before, "for weeks upon weeks," according to her husband. " http://tinyurl.com/jlc3m

24. #22, Genius
Chatich   (07.28.06)
So, professor, you figure the UN soldier's grieving wife, sitting at home in Canada, has a more accurate and more objective understanding of the situation on the ground in S. Lebanon than the actual soldier who was there? Let me remind you of this key, irrefutable little tidbit he wrote: "This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity". This clearly implies the use of the UN post by Hizbullah as a shield for rocket launching. What else could it possibly mean? Israel uses unmanned drones to pinpoint rocket launch sites, relays the coordinates to the IAF and must they fire immediately, sighted or not, or risk letting the very mobile launchers get away. Hizbullah, those sweethearts, take full advantage of the situation by launching rockets in the immediate proximity of residences, schools, mosques and yes - UN outposts - with the deliberate intent of causing maximum colateral damage and milking the resulting PR fiasco to obtain the usual and predictable world condemnation of the only righteous side of this conflict. Same old song then...
25. Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery
World Citizen ,   the world   (07.28.06)
I see one of the unwashed ignorati is using my moniker. It's fine except that the person is not a citizen of the world but a dupe of the American/ Israel/ AIPAC "axis of evil". Talk about the "cowardly' jihadists hiding behind UN towers, hospitals, mosques is obsurd. This is not the Age of Napolean. Do Israeli forces stand out in the open in battle? No they don't even come onto the field of battle. They have F-16s and Apache helicopters up at 15,000 feet and three or four miles inside the Israeli border firing GUIDED missles at UN towers, mosques, Red Cross marked ambulances, and food and water trucks. You Israelis think you stand on some high moral ground but you are not. Your military will do anything, kill anyone, and use any weapon if the means justify the end. You are using white phosphorous, air/fuel bombs (vacuum), depleted uranium bunker buster bombs. You name it, the whole array of American weapons of mass destruction. One day your leaders will answer for their crimes of genocide. The World will demand it.
26. To Brian in San Jose
D.Duarte ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.28.06)
Thanks for taking the time to write a letter of support. (The historical facts that you mention are easy to verify for those who want to arrive at the truth. Unfortunately, many vocal people aren't interested in the truth and are careful not to let mere facts impact upon their world views. ) Regards from Jerusalem.
27. Kofi Annan the Racist
Alex ,   New York City   (07.28.06)
I am sick and tired that my hard earned tax dollars are used to support the lavish life styles of bunch of racist and useless monkeys who called themselves the UN.

29. Hizballah is winning... by dubious and sneaky means
(07.30.06)
Hizballah's sneaky and immoral strategy is working. By using the Lebanese civilians as shields for launching their rockets, they have succeeded in making the Israelis look like the criminals. I wonder if their God Allah approves of such deplorable strategy. The Hizballah will answer to their Creator in due time. The truth is, the Lebanese government is useless, unable to protect and serve their citizens. The terrorist Hizballah is the one that is really in charge of Lebanon. The Lebanese government should have disarmed the Hizballah years ago but were afraid. This is the result of their incompetence. They should not blame others but themselves.
