Yes, the Syrian occupation of Lebanon brought order to that war-ravaged country. In fact, things were so stable under Syria that Hezbollah used the time to arm to the teeth, establish an extensive system of tunnels and bunkers, and train their fighters for war. Lebanon definitely needs a return to the kind of stability that only Syria can provide, and we should all watch as the UN and EU help make it happen.

The aim of Syria is to reestablish the Ottoman province of Syria which included Syria, Lebanon, Israel. Palestine and Jordon. Of course Syria would make this area a Ba'athist state. It would be secular; undemocratic and would suppress religous groups.

It may not be only Israel's weapon systems which are being tested by Iran in Lebanon. Hizbullah appears to be cannon fodder for Iran as it gauges the effectiveness of its weaponry against U.S. imports. This conflict offers the means for Iran to safely refine its tactics and armaments as it bides its time...the enemy of the Lebanese people may be a bit further to the north....Lebanon is not expendable. It is time for her people to rise up to the challenge of nation building instead of playing host to extremists who have no commitment to or respect for her people.

JJ, If your army control the south of Lebanon in the first place and disarm Hizbullah, what happen to your country should not have happen. Your government should be responsible for the action of groups in your country. I applaud the action of Israel, they can not let this action of Hizbullah go unpunish because if they do, Hizbullah would think that Israel is afraid and would do it again.
