31. #17 - Ray, you are not just the "messenger"
Haifa, Israel   (07.28.06)
You are clearly trying to manipulate your readers. By now, you and your compatriots have become notorious for this style of communication, and so this article shoots your cause in the foot - and everywhere else, for that matter.
32. TO #9
KARLOS ,   LEBANON   (07.28.06)
well, sorry to tell u, but the one who was from the begining hitting civilians blindly were the israeli planes who was hitting canadians, americans swedish and many other residency holders who were just enjoying a vacation in lebanon, the HIZBALLAH fighters acted the same, and that was said by the honest Nasrallah on tv, they was doing it on purpose, and by the way, in naharayya there was a chemical factory, if hizballah wanted they would have hit it, but they didn;t want to, they hit a place very next to it, and they said next time the rocket will be accurately on it.. there.. and about Mr. Falah's issue, i think thousands of prisonners are in israeli jails because the famous SECURITY OF ISRAEL :P get a life israelians, and as i always say, outside Middle east and palestine.
33. Timing
Br   (07.28.06)
Ray, you are entitled to your opinion -- which is what OpEd pieces are supposed to be -- but I think you chose a bad time to assert this one. I think you've WAY oversimplified this situation and certainly sanitized it to make your point, but nonethtless, you can go ahead and contend that Falah was just taking pics on the beach. However, in light of the War going on in Israel right now, did you honestly think anyone reading Ynet will respond positively to your snarky comments regarding the barrier against terrorism (espeically since we've had kidnappings of late!) and accusations of false imprisonment. Make your points by all means, but know your audience... I have always believed that you write in an attempt to get a mutual dialogue going... in this case, the tone and subject matter seem to indicate that you just want to piss Israelis off today. That's unfortunate.
34. WHO GIVES A DAMN? LET OUR ENEMIES ROT!!

35. This Is War. Pull The Plug on Ray
Dan Friedman ,   NYC, USA   (07.28.06)
Right now Israel is under no obligation to broadcast Arab propaganda. There will be plenty of time for Ray's comedy act after this thing is over.
36. guilty of being...?
danica ,   tel aviv   (07.28.06)
the precise fact that hanania is allowed to publish his tripe in an israeli newspaper proves that Israel is no gulag system
37. Lebanese Gulag
Dan ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.28.06)
Let's compare Palestinian rights in Israel to Palestinian's rights in Lebanon I quote from Simon Haddad (Lecturer in the Political Studies and Public Administration Department at the American University of Beirut) "Since their arrival in Lebanon nearly 50 years ago, the experience of Palestinian refugees was one of marginalization, suffering, repression and armed violence. They were considered a threat to the Lebanese people and were treated as second-class citizens. Unlike Palestinian refugees elsewhere, Palestinians in Lebanon have been denied basic social and economic rights for a substantial portion of their 52 years in exile." and "Only a small fraction has been able to acquire Lebanese citizenship. The greatest majority remains stateless; they were treated as foreigners, they have rights of property ownership, investment and employment by permit. Obtaining a work permit remains a complex and lengthy process that offers neither social security nor insurance benefits nor a regular wage increase, and becomes invalid when its holder is laid off the job. Moreover, employment in large institutions is largely closed to Palestinians because it is governed by sectarian rules.(10) Palestinians, however continue to be excluded from more than 72 professions. These restrictions force them to work in the informal sector with low wages, insecurity and no benefits. With regard to education, Palestinians are excluded from Lebanese governmental educational institutions for higher education. Further, Palestinians are also finding it impossible to enter the government secondary schools. Restrictions on building and reconstruction in the camps contribute to the insecurity of Palestinians in Lebanon. They continue to live in indecent, semi-destroyed and unfurnished buildings. Rebuilding in the camps has been strictly and legally controlled, with severe overcrowding as a result. Today, between 150,000 and 200,000 Palestinian refugees live in 12 registered refugee camps that are prepared to accommodate 50,000 refugees.(11) The Lebanese state reluctance to absorb the refugees has led to the perpetuation of the refugee camps set in 1948 and 1967." Talk about Gulags!! Shame on you, Ray! I liked many of your pieces but please - hypocracy and untruths dont sit well with humour!
38. Ghazi Falah
Derek Gregory ,   Vancouver, Canada   (07.29.06)
Thanks for your coverage of Ghaz's arrest near the "border" with Lebanon... Those who want to help Ghazi can reach the campaign in support of his human and legal rights at http://www.muehlenhaus.com/ghazi. Given the hideous attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, it's not difficult to see why *anyone* with a heart and a camera would seem dangerous....

Nat ,   USA   (07.29.06)
How would you know? Were you with him....huh!!!!
40. Wait a minute, guys!
(07.29.06)
Why is it so dangerous to question the reasoning behind taking someone prisoner? Why does one get snapped at for stating his observations? Israel must be a scary place to live: the Arabs will blow you up if you worship everything about Israel, the Jews will bite your head off if you don't.
41. this is
BS meter ,   Canada   (07.29.06)
one of hte silliest articles I've ever read. And that's saying something.
43. you are full of it ray
jason white ,   afula,israel   (07.28.06)
I flew b.a. and there was no announcement like that and I've flown a half a dozen different airlines here and there was never any announcement like that.you are a liar and that must come naturally to you. That sandcrab you are writing about was not just taking pictures of nothing, but of strategic sites. Why do you come to our Jewish country?Stay out!
44. Military antenna????
deepee ,   canada   (07.29.06)
I did read photos of military antennas... Now why would one take a picture of that... interesting to say the least.. I think more research needs to be done on this before judgement can be made.. doesnt look good though taking pictures of a large military tower.. Do me a favor present all the facts... I can draw my own conclusions dont tell me what to think.. thanks...
45. Arafat NOT, Barghuti NOT
deepee ,   canada   (07.29.06)
Need I say anymore.. I could write pages upon pages of why this is just not the case in my opinion....
46. Im boycotting this prick, you shud do same!
Yisraeli   (07.29.06)
47. Hanania - Anti-Israel/Anti-Human?
Sharon ,   USA   (07.29.06)
A person who is a 3rd generation American snubs the rights of others and portrays himself as being happy to write in Jewish publications. Yet he is proud of Arafat as his portrait is hanging in his living room. I wonder if Mr. Hanania will do business with an Israeli who was perhaps Jewish (a zionist) or would he seek to do business with someone who is not. Mr. Hanania is very critical of Israel. I wonder with the news of an American Muslim who attacked a Jewish Federation Office in Seattle, washington in which one has been killed, is Mr. Hanania handing out candy? What's another dead Jew? As an American Jew I am sadden that a man of Mr. Hanania's stature would really believe in the many lies that are being passed around as truths. Especially from people he may be doing business with.

Eve ,   Seattle   (07.29.06)
You are very close -- I'm sure Ray doesn't send it right away to Hezbollah but to the pro-Arafat organizations he may belongs to. Just by his articles alone as well as from his videos he has on his website - this "Arab-American" who should be proud of a unique history is a disgrace in writing for an Israeli paper. I can only imagine that Ray would do what many of his own ilk do -- Take what is theirs, sell it and bank it in the Cayman Islands for a tax break. Or perhaps to move it to Dubai or Switzerland to avoid paying American taxes on income.
49. To Ray - You Have No Clue What
Alex ,   US   (07.29.06)
GULAG really was. Remember, I asked you about link to any Arab news site where I can found your work. You didn't give me one. You have no guts to publish your work there. I wish you came some time to Russia to discover what Russian’s jails really are. Do it - just for fun. And tell me after about your experience.
50. Mr. Hanania: Ask former Russians what Gulag means!
Gerd Schulz ,   Germany   (07.29.06)
51. Hanania, what about the previous cases of Hizbullah spying?
Da dude   (07.29.06)
Mr. Hanania you are either very lazy or very dishonest I do believe that in this article it is truely the case of the latter. Now your entire diatribe complaining about Israeli security forces ignores one very important point. That there are many, many examples of Israeli-Arabs or foreign citizens of Arab decent who have been caught spying for Hizbullah. This then leads me to ask this question: You as a writer for Ynet, I assume would also read the news articles from this website. Then why didn't you just type in "Hizbullah" or "spying" in the search engine and look at previous news articles? Like these that I found by searching the 62 pages of results that come from searching the word "Hizbullah". "Danish citizen convicted of trying to recruit Hizbullah members" http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3202276,00.html "Nazareth man: I contacted Hizbullah" http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3174460,00.html "Lebanese reporter in Israel interrogated on suspicion his editor belongs to Hizbullah" http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3160487,00.html "Heavy sentence for Hizbullah spies" http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3100074,00.html "Palestinian would-be assassin detained Visam Nasser recruited by Hizbullah during family visit in Lebanon, planned to target senior Israeli figure" http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3068963,00.html Now Mr. Hanania why didn't you take the time to look up these previous stories? Is it because your entire arguement is now basically daft? Really, I cannot understand how Ynet allows you to continue writing. This article truely is a dishonest attempt at painting a very biased picture. You yourself, would have known about these examples but choose to hide it. As others in Ynet talkback state, you are a propagandists of the worst decree.
52. Glass houses
Shimon ,   Ranaana   (07.29.06)
Ray Hanania, you are a Christian American apologist for Islamic supremecists writes another nonsense article. What about USA imprisoning hundreds of olive skin people after 9/11 for months on end without charge? What about Israeli tourists imprisoned and beaten for photographing twin towers? As the saying goes people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Firstly adress these problems in your country before criticising others. And yes of course in Israel an Israeli Jew who travels to enemy countries like Lebanon and Iran and photographed army installations and antennas would be treated identical to your case. In fact he woulb probably be imprisoned much longer! This article is ignorant and naive.
53. your article is a matzilation of facts, mr. hanania.
gerd schulz ,   germany   (07.29.06)
54. Israeli Gulag
Elie ,   Grimsby Ontario   (07.29.06)
Have yo seen the pictures he took, I am sure that if his pictures were of bathers in the beach he would be home now. So until we see the pictures, wake up and smell the coffee because as you said they are at war. Being at war it is afforded the same rights your wonderful country has to secure its citizens.
55. Why where they fleeing?
smartie ,   Montreal   (07.29.06)
Dan, ask yourself: why were those palestinians fleeing? Why did they not flee to Israel?
56. look at all these talkbacks

57. #30 Jenny is absolutely right
Yoel   (07.29.06)
I just need to add that any passport should put you above the law. I don't mind if he's american or canadian,or even israeli. If he overpassed any limit, he will need to face to Justice and justify for what he did. Personnally, I would not behave as a tourist while my mother is in Hospital, but I would remain aside her... Does that represent enough logic for you? Stop abusing us with complaints, we will finally stop hearing you, even if it's for something serious. You know the story of that child shouting there was a Wolf ??....
58. Israeli is in fascist state of mind!
Halldor Halldorsson ,   Iceland   (07.29.06)
59. Ray Hanania is a prisoner of his own lies
Dude ,   Canada   (07.29.06)
it's not the first time that his stories are exposed to be full of lies and deception. how sad.
60. Just a little advice:
Muhahahammad   (07.29.06)
Everybody can sense what kind of person Hanania is by what he has already written. He´s another snake-like arab trying to erode the resolve of the people of Israel, and their supporters´ worldwide. The best medicine is to ignore him: do not read him, do not write in the talkbacks of his articles anymore.... Till he disappears. NB: To YNET, nothing politically incorrect here to incur in your censoring wrath...
