61. American hypocrisy
Tony ,   Knoxville, TN USA   (07.31.06)
It's funny to see Americans root on the Israeli disregard for human life, yet couldn't stomach 2000 people dying in September 11th when it's innocent Americans being killed.. Hezbollah cowardly hides in civilian installations, and Israel bombs these installations knowingly killing civilians and maybe a few terrorists who set off a bottle rocket. If Hezbollah was hiding in a Jewish foundation you would see a Mossad hit squad take them out so "God's people" wouldn't get bruised.
62. Israel genocide
Tony ,   Knoxville, TN USA   (07.31.06)
Plain and simple this war wouldn't be happening if Hezbollah resided on Israel soil. Israel would send Mossad agents door to door assasinating terrorists, not bombing apartment building of Israelis to kill a guy shooting bottle rockets. Arab and Christians are expendable.
63. Balance?
Tony ,   Knoxville, TN USA   (07.31.06)
Tell me if this is balanced: Your opponent kills a few SOLDIERS and kidnaps 2 SOLDIERS. You respond with a massive attack crippling public infrastructive(including international airports), killi several-fold more of your own troops, and kill over 600 civilians. BTW, you do this all with weapons from the US while criticize your opponent's weapon acquistions from their allies. And you wonder why people hate you and call your war a crime?
64. Cease Fire
Bill Blaney ,   Essex, UK   (07.31.06)
I guess Israel should only bomb on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays to test their equiptment. Yeah right. Exactly what Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill would have done. I guess this is not war. We have been duped. This is ridiculous. The Lebanese butchered one another during their civil war but that does not count.
65. Everyone knows the reason for the 48 hour suspension
Constantine ,   NY USA   (07.31.06)
Israel is realizing that the air war isn't working and is too afraid of Hezbollah to send in troops. This is just a face saving way to get out without admitting that it lost.
66. #45 Jeremiah
Ricky Bobby ,   Taledega, USA   (07.31.06)
Jeremiah, You could do a lot worse than having the US (Uncle Sam) as an ally. In this whole big, scary, Jew hating world, Israel has one and only one ally. That is the US. You may feel that Israel can survive on its own. Just ask yourself though, which country sent you 3 plane loads of missles and munitions this week? WHO? Uncle Sam, thats who. So, you may feel like your country is a lap dog to the US, you would do well to remember who is killing you and who is helping you. The US is far from perfect and we have our share of appeasers, but the US will never abandon Israel as long as their are Jews and Biblical Christians in the US. Yes, Israel is doing a half-ass job in Lebanon. Blaming the US for that is easy. The Us has blocked every UN call for a cease fire so far and defended Israels right to defend itself. The half-ass job is being orchestrated a little closer to home this time. Your enemy is radical Islam, its not Uncle Sam. Have a little respect. OKAY?
67. Even this is too soft on Hizbullah!
wayne hutchinson ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.31.06)
Giving those maniacs 48 hrs. of respite, only means giving them 48 hrs. to prepare and regroup. It also means Israel's war with Hizbullah is prolonged for 48 hrs., extra time in which numerous Israelis can be killed by rockets as well as IDF soldiers on the front. Those Arab dogs do not deserve anything except the full might of the IDF launched against them! Wayne Hutchinson, Toronto.
68. Michael There's more to come...
(07.31.06)
Yeah don't fret, it's not over. We're not there and we don't know all of their strategy. It's ok to have a pause. Gives Allies more time to transport missiles, etc, if needed. Gives a window for residents to evacuate also. More shimmy and shake on the way. This generation of Lunatics needs a good cleaning up, I agree but I don't think Iran Russia China or Syria has any intention of taking the hits they need. They are all watching carefully so they can strategize. So are the asses here who have built their mosques in order to claim America. They build a mosque, they erect their flag, (It's in the Koran). as told our group by a former Iranian Militiaman/turned Christian. He told our adults and youth, "Wake up! America is in danger."
69. this will not end until 22/8. Here is why
Lori ,   Phoenix Az   (07.31.06)
On 22/8 Iran says it will answer the UN's demand that it stop its nuclear enrichment. It now waits to see how much damage it will sustain in the interium. If they feel they are getting stronger, they will be embolden. If Olmert will get off the toilet and start fighting, he will feel beaten in his proxy war and the whole western would will benefit.
70. Let's pound them from the air...
Maya ,   Canada   (07.31.06)
...and make sure that every single house, road, bridge is turned into a "sand box". And you know what, while we're at it, let's kill all the families, mothers, children that are there, because whoever lives in the south is a "Hizbollah terrorist"... Seriously, how pathetic, how disturbing, how criminal does that sound? You pride yourselves for being so strong and so smart, but yet Israel is first and foremost, the biggest terrorist on this planet, while of course, serving its purpose as a puppet for the mighty big U.S.A. . Israel manufactures its people's consent with controled media, and most of you buy all of the crap being broadcasted about your army controling this war, and reaching its goals. Didn't you learn anything from past experiences? Don't you read all the lebanese posts about us having nothing to loose? Do you really think by turning villages into sand, we will disappear? Why do you think your leaders got the hell out of the south in 2000? People from Israel...WAKE UP! Listen to Nasrallah: you will not win this war, the only thing you are winning is hatred from around the world.... which was already there but is just getting stronger. We do not care about house and bridges or anything money can buy...all of that is replacable... we are proud and we are patient..we have lost a lot, but this war will just make us gain more love for our country and more unity amongst us. It took the IDF 4 days to get into a village big like my living room and it is still having problems keeping it safe. There was more than 4 articles declaring the army have taken Beit Jbeil into its control, while the truth was 9 were killed and 25 injured and in no way close to gaining any power over that village whatsoever... Putting a tank with soldiers waving a Hizbollah flag won't make it look any easier ; actually it is pretty contradictory with the fact the your govt just announced they will step up air strikes and limit ground incursions...Even I can sand you flags so you can pretend you conquered something that you never will! We fight because it is for our land and our survival, because we refuse to be controled or pushed around like some second degree country to the USA and Israel; we fight because we care and we love, we fight for our children and their future; we fight for Palestine and its people; we fight without fear or anguish, without looking back or wanting more, but simply for our freedom and our rights. So I say : strike us from up where we can't defend ourselves and chicken out on the real fights, on honor, on people willing to die to defend what is theirs. Wave enemy flags and smile for the camera, calls us terrorist so you sleep better at night, turn our country into bits and pieces... and then... take a step back...and watch... WATCH what Lebanon is really capable of; I don't feel the need to tell you...because sooner or later, when you've lost enough men and left our country you'll see for yourselves. And God only knows, I can't wait for that moment!
71. Another victory for Hizboullah
Wise Man ,   USA   (07.31.06)
A survay done by the American university in lebanon sjowm 87% of the lebenease supporting Hizbollah. When this war is over may a day aor am month from now. Hizbollah, Syria and Iran will be the winners over all.
72. IF.........
ALAN ,   USA   (07.31.06)
IF ONE BOMB IS SHOT INTO ISRAEL DURING THESE 48 HOURS, WE TAKE OUT THOSE MOSQUES ON THE TEMPLE MOUNT.
73. Israel Ministry of F.A. videos
Descartes ,   FRANCE   (07.31.06)
those videos are exactly like the pictures of Powell to UN or like the one which shows a supposed Boeing hitting the Pentagone. Nobody can see anything, so it is only powder for eyes that want to see what they are told to see. It seems you learned with the same psychologic instructors?
74. #47 Wrong. They show a truck.
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (07.31.06)
The photos show a truck. They do not show them being fired from there.
75. Israel has lost
Joe ,   Allentown, US   (07.31.06)
The cease fire isn't a mistake. Starting a war that Israel can't win was the mistake. The war hasn't been adequately planned from the beginning. That's why the U.S. is delivering emergency supplies of bombs - a very bad sign at this early stage. Now Israel has pulled back its land invasion. Israel has lost. Now the Qana event and the UN and US pressure is just diplomatic cover so that Israel can try to say: "We didn't lose. The UN/US forced us to stop. It was our choice to stop." No - that's not what's happened.
76. Qana
MORT the SPORT ,   Canada   (07.31.06)
Why doesn't Hezbollah protect its civilian supporters?
77. Are we stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Miriam Goodman ,   Netivot   (07.31.06)
78. do NOOOOOOT SUSPEND AIR STRIKES --- WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOOOOOT !   (07.31.06)
WRONG !!! WRONG !!! TO SUSPEND AIR STRIKES NOW !!! THEY PUT CHILDREN & WOMEN EVERYWHERE IN AMUNITON STORES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY USE OLD , CHILDREN , WOMEN ETC. AS SHIELDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
79. When has UN been worried about civilian death ?
Why Lebanon not Iraq   (07.31.06)
Was Kofi Annan rushing into Iraq as some days the the number of civilian death are 2 to 3 times that of Qana. Where are all these hypocrite peace keeping nations, did not see any rushing to prevent civilian death in Iraq.
80. #75
Neal ,   NJ, USA   (07.31.06)
Joe, or is it Bagdad Bob! Your military analysis reeks of Jizzbulla propaganda. Are you on the ground there? Israels infrastructure is okay, your jizzbulla/Southern Lebanostan looks like Dresden after the RAF bombings in WWII. Don'yt give up your day job because you suck as a propagandist
81. Unbelievable stupidity
leon bialecki ,   st. louis, mo   (07.31.06)
It is incomprehensible that Israel is not using all its full military might in response to over 2000 missiles raining over its population. That is what you get when the minister of defence is a union leader.
82. #25 Mark, I think I'm with you here
abc   (07.31.06)
While I have very mixed reactions about this, it gives Israel an opportunity to demonstate that it is a civilized society that is sensitive to world opinion. It also gives the Hezzies time to prove what we already know about them. This should be a 1 time deal. When the 1st rocket drops after the 48 hour deadline Israel should already have the gloves off and hammer their asses. This will show Hezz the clear aggressor and Israel purely defensive, having tried to cooperate with a ceasefire. This will also give the world justification to respond immediately if Iran or Syria decide to make a move.
83. Does the name NASR-ALLAH mean antichrist?
A Kind Heart in ,   Louisiana USA   (07.31.06)
How many deaths will it take till he knows that too many people have died? Why does he lead his people to the slaughter? Why are some of the people uniting with a radical organization that seeks destruction and hides among the people like cowards? Is this Nasrallah even in the Lebanon region or broadcasting from a safer place like Iran? Can anyone find him and just get rid of him? Are the answers just blowing in the wind ?
84. #80
Joe ,   Allentown, US   (07.31.06)
Neal - so, in your reading of events, the cease fire indicates an Israeli victory? Was demolishing Southern Lebanon the criteria for victory? It seems to me that demolishing the Hezz was the goal. How is the cease fire furthering the goal of demolishing Hezzbolah? No, it appears to me that this is the beginning of Israel attempting to "gracefully" back away from this war, without fulfilling its objectives; and if that is the case, then Israel has lost, in my view. I think it's tragic that Israel has lost - and dangerous. Now, maybe you're right, and this cease fire will be followed by a large scale ground invasion. But that seems implausible to me.
85. you need to read the statement more carefully...
Rachel ,   NY,USA   (07.31.06)
i'm not so sure everyone is reading the statement correctly... they will not do air strikes in SOUTHERN lebanon and they are allowed to take action against targets preparing attacks against it.. so basically things haven't changed much other then the headline... By the way did anyone notice how in one of the riots someone was wearing a david beckham jersey?? Just trying to find the irony in all of this madness.
86. Calm down...!
Jesus ,   SF, USA   (07.31.06)
guyz guyz guyz...calm down. It's a ceasefire, but not a ceasefire against threatening targets. So, all is not lost.
87. #72, Alan
Fed up ,   Karmiel, Israel   (07.31.06)
Sounds good to me, dude!!!
88. See this to see what is really happening

89. Qana
David ,   Cranston   (07.31.06)
hezbollah probably herded all those people into that building because it was storing munitions and they either knew it was going to blow up or they blew it up themselves. The building fell 8 hours after the Israeli airstrike. Would you have stayed in an unstable building?
90. Get Ready for the Next War
Jeremy S. Slavin ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.31.06)
Words and lessons from 1983 show that what we're hearing and experiencing this very day will only lead to a future war. Lebanon gets off with barely a slap on the wrist, Hizballah gets a moral victory, and Israel gets blamed. http://therealslimslavin.blogspot.com/2006/07/as-history-repeats-itself.html Get Ready for the Next War
